Ah've said it before, guess another time won't hurt....
Since there ARE bots out there, of assorted qualities, there should be some included with the DL'd client game; set up a LAN with just you and Bots. The only 'Single Player' NS of any quality that this would probably give is Comm practice. I doubt an AI Comm would be much good so that'd be about the only SP role... But the rest of the 'rines and the aliens don't have to be perfect. Just imagine what NS could've been like all this time, without our all having to suffer under endless noob comms (y'know, don't even know the tech tree, how to to give WPs, set squads, etc), or being noob comms ourselves... how many 'balance' (read: experience, IMHO) issues might not have existed quite so heinously... Oh well... Maybe for NS 4.0... I think a NS SP would be sweet but it would really be a hard thing to make cause of the teamwork base or u can make it like starcraft ghost setup like one versus all scenario...
I can so imagine myself in a room fighting off waves after waves of brainless skulks

How about just a SP NS MAP just for "training"... like the one in Counter Strike ?
I think that it will be good, if it doesn't exist already... with a commander that make you learn about building bases after giving you the main command...
So new players can begin by that, and then know most of the NS features...
But in aliens... the training mode would be strange... with the hive speaking..

hmm yeah i think a training mode would be cool. Hmm however the stuff with the alien/marine point of view. Sound for me very much like aliensvspredator1/2 try this game if you want a good SP and a boring MP.
Its defintily going to be some work. But i think i can do it with some help,That is where you guys come in

I got a strong feeling that when the HL2 version of Natural Selection is released, its going to be a whole new game, with single player, hopefully.

No one know's if they'll actually port it to the HL2 engine, though it definentley would be cooler. P.S. I might try and get some SP related coding done for the hell of it.
About what Defiance said about a NS HL2 mod... It'd be cool if there were these cool Marine Vehicles...but what would Aliens get...? Also, besides from Tanks and stuff what else would there be, there'd be no reason to have flying vehicles or troop transports, because they already have Phase Gate Technology. Sorry, this just continues an off topic babble, but I would like to know what others would think of cool vehicles when (or even IF) NS is transferred over to the HL2 engine...
It would take awhile to develop Natural Selection for HalfLife 2, perhaps a year. However, Natural Selection seems popular enough to be an official Valve mod. If Flayra chooses to keep Natural Selection as a seperate game, there's no reason he has to use Halflife 2.
In any case, it depends largely on whether he wants to keep it an "inside" game or allow it to take place on large scale terrain, much like Battlefield 1942 or Unreal Tournament 2004's Onslaught mode. Doom3 might be a more appropriate engine if it's a mainly indoor game.
Personally, I'd rather see Natural Selection move outdoors, as it would be new and interesting, rather than the same old thing we have now. Aliens would mainly live underground, and come up to the surface to attack, while Marines would start at the surface and work their way down. Since Halflife 2 has changable terrain, burrowing aliens and marine "landscaping" equipment is not out of the question. There are certainly lots of possibilities. It just depends on what Flayra wants the game to be.
On the original topic, the best thing to do is write a seperate dll that installs to the current nsp folder, and use the -dll switch in a shortcut. You can then produce whatever entities you need for a single player game, without having to follow the game's style to the letter. A tutorial or practice mod would be the quickest way to produce something useful. You wouldn't be able to actually distribute the ns content, only require players to have it already installed. A bit of trial and error would be required to get it perfect. Luckily, most of the values appear to be stored in balance.txt in the nsp directory

Well, Marines could get a buggy-ish vehicle, and maybe a mini-helicopter type thing (remember, in HL2, using MAX size, it would take a vechicle 5 minutes to go from one end of a map to the other). Aliens could have a transport creature, maybe, that carries lifeforms in its sack (kind of like a Kangaroo, but a lot more gelatinous and round and dangerous looking)
