OK OK OK OK OK I'll WORK ON ONE THOUGH MY ENGLISH IS NOT GOOD I'LL GIVE YOU A STORY IN 7 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bet it will suck......SOMEONE BETTER MAKE A BETTER ONE THAN ME!!!!!!
I did a search in the forum and guess what?
The other sp ns projects are dead...
A ns sp would be really nice but it would have to be of really good quality and with Flayras permission of cource.
You could possibly make a story about a lone marine that had his team chewed by the aliens, and watch the thrusters of his mothership fade into the black beyond.
NS SP mission would be along the lines of marine must escape immediate area, then secure a location, establish some res points to provide some equipment, access the bridge/control area, repair radio to establish communication, possibly blow up a piece of equipment that results in the destruction of the hive.
or something like that.
Best storyline this far would start from Natural selection fiction (check out main site helps). And carry on from there. Though working in multiplayer maps will most likely be a problem and making single player maps is propably going to be massive work.
And marine would propably start his team mates cheven to bits, lonely, endangered and in unknown territory.
I dont see problems with AI. Place a skulk on that corner and three skulks on wall over there. Theyll start chewing the blind marine in an instant.
Commander might come in sharing medpacks on demand (1-10 random seconds delay I think. Youre not the only marine after all who comm has to take care of?).
Though team work is one of main features in game, AI is simply not enough to meet the requirements to form Heavy armor train and take down a hive in last scenario.
Fighting computer controlled entities will <u>NEVER</u> be as much fun as fighting human controlled entities... NEVER, because humans are still not understood for the full 100%
Exactly, so would it really be worth all the effort at the end of the day ? How many ppl would take time out of online NS to play single player, I know I would'nt.

There is not. Good job being up to date with everything, Amckern was coding one once, but he stopped progress, he did release the source if I'm right.
There's always different concepts of fun than playing mulitplayer. A good storyline progression is what really pushes most good RPG games, and even some FPS's. Take the half-life single-player campaign. I consider that 20x (if not more) more fun than playing half-life deathmatch.... that is when I'm feeling in a storyline kind of mood. Single player versions of games should not try to solely imitate its multiplayer counterparts with the use of bots. Case in point... Quake 3 and UT (along with its decendents). These games were designed with multiplayer being the emphasis and the singleplayer experience generally was a let down compared to playing with a decent set of humans (read: non-lamer / good sport humans).
If someone sets out to make NS a singleplayer version of the multiplayer simply by adding AI players then it really isn't going to be much fun for obvious reasons (though this point is somewhat arguable). However if you utilize only those entites that are vital to the backstory itself and get away from the mechanics of the current gameplay, you set yourself up for something that can be very compelling and enjoyable.
Oh and another one: think about all the posted suggestions you could put into it.
Flamethrower? problem was that its to laggy. hmm SP solves this problem.
Gasmask? Teambalance would be disturbed. Well if you play alone against masses of aliens i think you could put a gasmask into the game.
just think about all the stuff that you will never see in NaSe MP.
If I think about that i really have to say that a SP is a good idea.
I have no idea if this is feasable, I know next to nothing about coding.
Ive though of one. the usual. you are a commando type person. you start pretty week. and basicly it would only be like a 7 - 10 (maybe more) level campain.
from infiltrate, to scout. etc.
Pistol needs like 50 + clip
you lmg is fine
your shoty would need at least 80 rounds +clip
and your hmg would need at least 500 or so. +clip
a GL would need about 50 + clip
and hand nade needs at least 5 extra round +clip
and of course maybe a large bomb capable of killing a hive.
mines you could about 20.
You could start off with just a pistol, then you find a LMG after kill a couple of skulks. then maybe a shoty, then a welder, then. maybe
Youd also have health stations, armories, and welding stations. nuy of course after you leave to farm from them, the alians would kill it, or something.
honestly id wait till HL2 or DOOM3 comes and make a mod of one. DOOM3 would be realy good for a scary single cause of how good thier darkness system is gonna work.
or you could just use unreal 2. since they now have a multi player mode. and the graphics are great.
but thats just me
But there'd need to be a different kind of useable DC and health-givin Armory like in HL singleplayer (they run out after a certain amount of health). If multiplayer mappers let you at their source, converting it to SP <b>could</b> be as simple as taking out some alternate passages, changing some of the hives around to be... Not hives... And put some ammo/health/maybe a new weapon (a as in 1, because you'd get more weapons over the course of the game). Aliens would need some DCs in random spots, and maybe they get an upgrade or something.
I think that the exsisting HL SP Army AI (even though it's node-based), would be fine for Marine enemies (they shoot, use cover, and throw grenades), and... Hmmm... A modded Headcrab would work for Skulk, something along the lines of the big dude with the hive launcher arm for Fade (NO BLINKING FADES IN SINGLE PLAYER!!!!), a modded flying Houndeye for the Lerk (just an idea), and Gargy-poo AI for the 'Nos. Think about it... It's got that stomp move that shoots red stuff across the floor and it runs up to you to use that overly annoying flame hand (Gore).
Oh well. That's my characteristically non-understandable two cents.
[EDIT PART II: A BEGINNING] DON'T FORGET!!!! It's single player. The enemies need to be EASILY KILLABLE otherwise people will break their monitors in frustration. So you'd have to mod variables a little to get it so that 3 Skulks won't kill you for sure. Nerf their bite or boost your LMG or something, but nerfing bite would sound more reasonable... And Skulk armor would need a boost as well. Fades and Lerks won't need a boost as long as the AI has imperfect aim, and Onos would need a huge boost in HP.
Agreed, but how much time and effort would be required to get something like this up and running ? Wouldn't it be wise to wait and see what the future holds for NS ( new engine etc. etc. ) before embarking on something like this, rather put the effort into making 10 decent new NS maps ?
I don't mean to rain on everyone's parade, it's great that people are willing to sacrifice their time for the enjoyment of others but maybe the time is better spent working on something else.
You start off as a regular light guy wandering about in the base(ship?), learning to collect gear and simple info about the aliens. Then you and some other guys, all geared up with HAs etc., get ready to launch an offence at some infested base somewhere. After some fighting you finally end up destroying a hive. End part one.
Now, you find yourself as a skulk, climbing around in the vents near the newly destroyed hive, trying to escape. Also here, the player might learn the basics of NS as aliens. Note: no evolution or money gathering would accour in SP. While the marines are all setting up their recoverd base, the skulk player sneak on a transport ship and end up at the marine base the player started at in the first place. There, more and more aliens gather. This would maby be rescuing skulks and gorges from labs or such... Anyway, all the aliens(not very many) would in the player's lead find a suitable place for a hive. When the hive is being built, the alarm goes off and chaos begins. It's time to defend the hive!!! Imagine marines run through several corridors trying to wipe out the new ifestation. There'd probably be many vents to ambush from. Then, part two is done.
Now you're a LA again. The base is all messed up. Now you must go get that self detonate switch or whatever go off to eradicate the new treath...
I guess I've made myself clear enough.... but something like that would be teh kool.... Otherwise, this might work as the hazard course training thing...
your trying to say that the whole sp game would be like one great big training session
which bot seems like a good idea, BUT, they may be too hard, thinking maybe HLAI would do.
GARGANTUA=ONOS (Stomp you run over and gore you, maybe try to eat you, but stomping would be rare)
Slave=Fade (Blink in the room in some occasions, acidrockiting you too, but if your close enough he would slash, and it would run away when really weak and try heal itself)
Controller=Lerk (im not sure how this would work, but, the lerk would fly in and shoot a spore and umbra at you (bad aim here) then it would fly and try eat you)
gorge=custom? (gorge would only be rarely found, around structers, as you attack it would heal spray and you would have to go around and kill it)
Skulk=Headcrab (skulk would run and leap at you, while in air it would bite, and in some cutscenes it would xeno, but this would be rare.)
at the start tho, a skulk would xeno, 2 marines would be left but as you pick up a lmg a onos would devour your friend near you and run away, not noticeing you at all, you try do a status check, but nobody responds, as you walk foreward you would see jake, a unit in your squad, or, you would see him there, over there, and a little on the roof, well, you get my drift...
apparently turns out as you do your status check, your helmits broken, nobody hears you, and your left alone to return to base, once you arrive, you move out to wreak havoc on the ailens, once this is done, then we go to SajberToffe's part 2, then 3
