3 teaser pics and intro
NS_PIPE

Concept: The map is set upon a research station which is working on improvements to nano and phase technologies. The entire station is built upon a powerful particle reactor. A maze of pipelines stretch across the entire structure as the powerful engine seeks pushes its' energy to the various parts of the stations large ring-like structure. A recent docking to restock the dwindling supplies included with it a specimen which the scientists had never seen. Keen to become famous the scientists agreed to store it for the marines that carried their supplies. Contact was lost several weeks ago.

Features: A first in ns history! A map that slowly deteriates over time. Sections of the map randomly lose oxygen and are automatically sealed off, some sections break away and other parts are destroyed by an uncontrollable particle laser.

3/3 - the corridor looks quite small in the other pics...it is actually huge...the roof is almost impossible to see beyond the vent which lines the entire roof (and has 2 exits for skulks)..

Sounds good, although I hope these parts won't obstruct either team too much. I once tried making it so a bridge would randomly break at a random time in a map, couldn't do it though Good luck with the idea though.

    Looking nice, so far.

[EDIT] Some blue light coming from under those grates would go nicely, in my opinion that is [/edit]

    Anyway nice job.

Beautiful. Little worried about the breaking up bits etc...might disrupt the game play too much...who knows. Could be fun and challenging - its nice to have to deal with your surroundings as well as your enemies.

Very, very, nice break away from the norm with something Different. Im quite interested to see how it plays out for gameplay. I already see a winner of a map with the atmosphere you have in just those shots. GJ.

Wow that looks very good - and the concept is certainly something different.

    Finally someone does this

I have had so many ideas for maps that changes over time, but I do not have any mapping skills or time to learn. I am sure it will rock!

Might give you some of what I thought of, if you haven't thought of it already:

    - Areas may be sealed off, but new areas and routes should open up too. Emergency hatches, laser burns holes in walls, etc.

    - All these things happens at some semi-random time: ie. laser goes off 6-8 minutes into the game, something else happens 2-3 minutes after.

    - Make some female automated voice (clich?, but who doesn't love it?) be played over the space-station/research-station etc.'s voice comm speakers, so you will know of the "Warning: Hull breach in forward engine room."

Let us know the progress on this one

    (Edit: Speeling erorrs.)

I'm gonna have a trigger random that hopefully will do the job..it'll trigger random multi-manager thingies that will start an event...the idea will be that some events will aid a team and others will hinder a team...all events will have an associated wav that gets played over a speaker system..the beauty of it all being random will be that once people learn the effects of certain events - they will be able to react accordingly..such as "Caution: Energy Pipeline puncture in Lower Engine room" will make people think "oh beauty, can get straight to the resource node that the marines had been controlling"...or on the flip side.."craaaap, need more defense in that area"..

another thing I plan to do is have things that resemble railroad crossings...except it will be a energy beam blocking the crossing which will stay on for a minute then fire for a minute...it will create huge tension if you are cut off from your squad/teammates and know that you are isolated for a minute (or two, however it eventuates)...

I've got another screeny from that corridor that I was playing with..it's good the r_speeds are low here cause this will be one of 3 central corridors that link the whole web together...

[EDIT] Gee jpg compression is really sucky...that looks crap [/EDIT]

    Very cool, even in Hammer

Sweet. Although the random events should not shaft a teams efforts too badly. Map layout effects balance more than many people think about and if the changes are too drastic it might be bad. However if both teams have to fight the map while fighting each other that will be cool.

Looking forward to this in anticipation.

Sounds intresting with the breaking of the map. Keep up the dark, brooding feel of it too, this game needs a dark official map.

eaglec, something that I didn't specify is that both sides will have a "random" entity that will effect each team...so (hopefully) each team will be set back (or advantaged) one step at a time...so at any given time no one will be ahead or behind (by too much)

The hammer screenshot is blurry, but it looks like you have carved/hollowed a cylinder, naughty naughty...

I love the look/concept of this map however. Don't be put off by having to make everything perfectly balanced. The best thing that could happen is that every time you play the map it would be a different combination of changes, so the gameplay would stay fresh for a long time.

why dont you change the green lazer to a gas sprite? ^_^ might be even sexxier!
  • ThaldarinThaldarin Alonzi! Join Date: 2003-07-15 Member: 18173Members, Constellation
Looking like a good ready room, I notice carve (grr) and the arch technique being used. Can't really say much until it is ingame.
  • HanzGrub3rHanzGrub3r Join Date: 2004-02-23 Member: 26823Members
lol...so much anger towards carve...only place I've used it so far in my map is for that circle in the centre of the readyroom....can you imagine how much effort would go into making that by hand...mr carve does it in seconds lol

As for the green laser into a gas sprite... hrmm..the whole thing is that this map has a type of energy beam running through it...it dictates a lot as to how the map will be built...can't really change it into a fart steam...

Please change that Spectate sign. I don't know why people keep using it. Use the "Observe Match" one instead, it looks alot better and fits the other signs more. An example is co_ulysseus (sp?). Blueman used that Spectate sign on the spectate entrance, and it really looked weird in comparision to the others. Same thing with ns_caged.

Looking nice though. Maybe make it so that the light "shines" through the windows, illuminating the room?
