83584 polys. Anyone think it'll crash HL if I put it in?

    It's nice, but i think this would be better off in artwork. Oh and i don't think it looks scary enough, looks too friendly, like a peon from WC3.

    A: I don't think about it that way exactly. Sure it's good if there is a nice distribution and that is something to work towards, but really the goal in DotA's development is, first and foremost, to make the gameplay quality the best it can be. It is the combination of all the heroes, items and mechanics together that makes DotA what it is and not the individual elements alone. Sometimes that means certain things are carefully adjusted to be more frequent than others, sometimes it doesn't, but ultimately the main judge of a game's quality is not in some artificial balance metric, but in the overall gameplay quality and depth that it has.

    The Ogres from LOTR were about 10 million polys using maya...

    There is no limit in production quality models.

    now, you tell me that you work for some place that can afford that cash, time, or poly... then i might think your not a complete shut-in. But as for your model, it's nice and all, but a complete waste of poly for the effect you've got.

    Go take a look over at cgtalk.com's forums for acurate crit/comments... for ns, it's artwork if it's oger 4,000 poly.

    And btw, you mistook orc for ogre.

    Ogres are the gigantic bat wealding creatures that dwell the caves and attacked the adventurers in the first movie. They make a return in ROTK as slaves to the orcish army.

    that looks like a 500 poly head, where are you hiding the rest of those polys? smile.gif

    seriously though hl wouldnt crash if you put that in it but if you added a body with approximately the same amount of detail youd probably have a 150,000 poly model and that would probably cause hl to crash. how did you create the folds on the skin? edge tesselation?

    hmm perhaps i missed this one but what do you want to replace with the ogre skin? the marines? would be kind of cool to have another lifeform fighting for their life beside the khaara and the humans. please don´t missunderstand that. I DONT WANT A THIRD LIFEFORM IN NS. but it would be kind of funny to replace the marine skins with orcs or something like that.
