<div class="IPBDescription">...and i'm almost at onos"</div> Anyone else having a problem with people whining about not enough whatever whilst saving for onos about 4 minutes into the game?

Post strategies to convince on how to them that they should build stuff or how i'm just plain stupid and i should let people hoard res for onos at hive 1 without berating them.

If there aren't any defense chambers placed yet, you can always place a movement or sensory chamber. If it's that far into the game movement would probably be better. Most people won't bother going onos without stomp or regen. That is assuming that you don't need an onos.

Let me get this straight: this is a thread for strategies on how to help your team lose due to not having any higher lifeforms to combat marine expansion?

If you decide to plop down that movement/sensory, then make sure to enjoy the fruits of your actions. If you are fighting a good marine team, you will surely enjoy getting slaughtered after your second hive goes down while still in its infantile state.

This is an outcry for everybody to be equal and play on an equal level. If one person gorges, everyone must gorge. That one person who went fade or onos and secured your second hive, prevented marines from holding those 5 extra resource towers, stopped the marines killing your own resource towers - that person is a res ****. If you can't be the hero that gets enough rfk to boost your res flow to 50-86 in under 5 minutes, then nobody else must be able to play the role of the hero.

The game is all about personal preference - the resources are yours to play with. It is upon you to decide whether those resources would be better spent on structural assets or unit assets. But the blame will be on you if you intentionally prevent capable players from doing their jobs with higher lifeforms.

That having been said, there are players who always play the same class - who always go either onos or fade. How are you going to convince those players to play as a gorge? You can do what you suggested and have either 1) the player evolve anyway or 2) have the player to drop a hive instead. Chances are you will experience a much more difficult game as a result. In addition, you'll be creating tension and inviting aggression. Alternatively, you could find a community of people to play with that take turns playing as various lifeforms.

The aliens require more experienced players than marines. This is because each player must fill in necessary roles without any help from a commander. Every alien player is aware of the game situation, therefore shouldn't need someone to tell them what to do.

If you're the gorge, and you don't have the res to drop that stuff, just say "I don't have the res." Or, you can go to <a href='http://world.altavista.com/' target='_blank'>http://world.altavista.com/</a> and randomly generate messages, such as "Mon corps est brun" or "Ich habe nicht die Betriebsmittel". It's unlikely you'll convince them to drop anything, as they'll probably share Sarisel's opinion on the subject. The best you can do is build what you can, when you can. The best teacher is the harsh, cruel truth of reality. If they don't learn from that, what chance do you have to teach them?

The problem is that you need people who build staff and people who save for higher lifeforms. I think that's the main difference between pub and clan play. In clans you have the one guy who saves for the hive, one or more early fades, maybe someone who goes for onos, and that is the hard part to manage on pub servers.
I have lost so many rounds on pubs because of many res **** but also many rounds because everyone went gorge and noone saved for higher lifeforms.

(btw "Ich habe nicht die Betriebsmittel" is my fav quote now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

If you ask me, I'm tired of people b!tching at me for not dropping a hive when i have 50 res. I usually go fade when i have 50 res and take out electrified rts, and prevent marine expansion. Even when i have taken out 3-4 electrified rts, my team still refers to me as a "res whoring nub". Now don't get me wrong, if my team badly needs dcs or another hive, of si will drop those, but if we're doing alright with one hive, I go fade and trash the marines res. In the end, it is usually the "res whoring nub" that ends up winning the game for his team. I'm probably gonna get flamed for this., but thats my 2 cents.

A good Team always has a ballance. People killing, people expanding, and people building. There honestly is nothing you can do in a public game, unless its your server, you have adminmod installed, and allow_client_exec = 1...

Usually, since you are the more experienced player, you will have to fill in the other rolls, since nobody else has the knowledge of the game to.

this is a sad topic, but a necessary one I believe. The truth of the matter is, better players should be the higher lifeforms, but in the old NS (before 3.0), this created a situation where the newbies were getting fed up with always being the ones dropping the stuff, and never getting a chance to play any type of higher lifeform. The worse they are, the more of a "newb" and "wasteful res ****" they'd be called. Sadly, they probably needed practice, like everyone else, but couldn't receieve it.

To some degree, combat now fills this roll, but I have a feeling that the less-skilled players out there still have grudges for being the "eternal gorge" for those that are better. Perhaps you will argue darwinish, but I play my games for fun, and gorging every game certainly isn't it.

While it is understandable that the better people need to go for higher lifeforms, it doesn't stop the creation of resentment.

For this reason, for the longest longest longest longest time, I almost ALWAYS played marine, beucase I simply wasn't a skilled enough alien to do any good as any type of higher lifeform. But now I'm decent at all alien classes, safe fade, to which end I need more practice, but sitll suffer form the "res ****" nightmare

That's the problem. Gorging can be quite fun (sure, not all the time). But you have all these newbs/kiddies (pretty much synonymous) who have to be running around as fade and especially onos (and never go gorge or lerk) because they can't kill anything otherwise, and they think everything else is therefore "no fun." So all they do is wait around and hoard res while stealing the occasional kill. Spectating such players shows you how sad it is when they contribute next to nothing to the team's success just for their res-hoarding fun. What's even worse is that they'll even bug gorges to put down chambers for them as well.

Play on good servers where people discuss strategy and you normally end up with 2 people "reswhoring", 1 permagorge, and everyone else tempgorging, in a 7v7/8v8

Res****s are necessary - one for early fade, one for early onos.
  • OutlawOutlaw Join Date: 2003-10-29 Member: 22112Members
res *****s are not needed. people that communicate with the team to say such things as "I'll save for hive" or "I'll go early fade" are team players (provided the team consents) and help the team.

res *****s are people who don't contribute much and just soak up res that should be going to the rest of the team, especially those who are building RTs or saving for that hive

    that's my .02

Sometimes, you just have to go onos.
    It's a game, after all.

If on a team of 7 you have 1 person each save for onos/fade, 1 person drop 3 upgrade chambers when they hit 40 res, 3 people drop rts (not all at the same time, so you don't get murdered in the process), and somebody save for the hive, everything works out wonderfully. Adjust accordingly for differently sized teams.

My plan is usually to fight for a while (I'm a good skulk), drop 3 chambers (cuz if I don't do it myself it never seems to get done on time), and then go back to skulk until I have something more pressing to do (either needed as onos/fade or to drop more structures).

You need at least 1 fade or onos as early as possible to start working on electrified rts, even if the player doesn't engage in any direct combat for a while (which is usually for the best until 2 hives).

I dont mind people who save for fade/onos as long as they dont get themselves killed in 30 sec. Ive seen quite a few people save res for onos then rambo into marine base and die in under a minute when they could have been alot more useful to there team...

I play on this one server, and on alians I never drop rez nodes. and always kill alot of reens, rushing, ambushing etc. I wont drop any upgrades eather..
my team will sometimes kinda complain..but since im rez horing by also killing reens, im the first to 50, so I goto a hive, gorge, drop hive. then try to kill a few reens as gorge so i can turn back to skulk or just die.

This in turn makes a team love you, and youll win cause of it. Why? cause it lets all teh rez horing **** get the upgrades they need.
Like said up above, if your a vet. fill in the rolls the other players arn't doing.

God, Does anyone remember me creating a thread SOLELY based upon getting more players to state WHAT THEY ARE DOING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ROUND!?!???!?!??

    ANYONE!?!?

If you're going fade/onos early, then its your job to TELL YOUR TEAMATES. If you think you've got reasonable skill and everyone agrees, then I definitely don't see the problem with early fade/onos.

If you didn't say anything or everyone else thinks you'll just waste the 50 res, then its better to gorge for res.

Sadly I almost always end up doing the same thing every game I play. Save to 48 res, go gorge, drop second hive... stay gorge until the end. Gorging is fun, and very useful to the team. Yes I say that i'm saving for the hive at the start of the round, and even when i'm dropping it... but sadly you still get called a res **** as a gorge sometimes... It's very wierd. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

is there any way to close your own topics? I've since realized that i was just really **** and that it is more of a situational thing... yeah... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
