    Well, with teamwork h4x they can pretty much have a pointman who has his flashlight and runs around not as teh light, but teh uber lighty torch!!

    As for the map.....dark....eerie....needs more darker spots and maybe broken lights.

    Side-note : Outdoors == WIN!

    Wow <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I really like the look of this map.

    Dark and gritty, unlike the normal NS maps which are normally bright and unatmospheric.

    Smoke/steam is used to great effect, makes it look alot more realistic.

    Only thing i don't really like, is the fact that its all perfect. Nothing broken.

    Surely the people who were already there would have broken <i>something</i> when they fought the kharra as they attacked? (Like the Aliens movie, with all the baricades and wholes in floor from the acid)

    Other than that, it looks really good and i hope it becomes an official map <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> (Although i doubt it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    At present there's a few broken things. There's two doors which are all bent and buckled from the other side and one entire corridor is caved in. I've just not shown those bits because, well, they just don't look as good in screenshots.

    Very good point. Easily added as well, and will give the map a little more colour, which some people hae been asking for. Thanks. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Uh, esuna, bad idea on the floor steam particles.

    Particles have a tendancy to make cloaked things stand out VERY well.

    I have to disagree with you on it beeing a bad idea <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Just imagin a marine sitting near a steampit then sees a onos steam shadow comming towards him. It creates a nice scare effect. And also makes the less powerfull aliens use more tactic then just crawling towards the enemy. The marines will doubt their eyes and go "what the hell is that " and before the can react the alien is already in striking range...

    In short steam is a very good athmospheric element if used correctly. It is a very cool effect to create cinematic feel to the place (predator, aliens well they dont use cloak but still the steam rocks in the movies <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Thanks for the kind words, once again. As to the steam on the floor, there is always a way around it, i have taken cloaking into account, so not to fear, you can still walk around. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Now, as many of you know, i was unhappy with the old RR and it's high r_speeds, so i've redone it, and in my opinion, it looks far sexier and it maxes at about 400 w_polys, so far better than the 800's i was getting.

    The old RR will be cut up and used in the map as smaller locations, because i still do like it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Now, onto the shots of the new RR. The lighting is still pretty bland and, well, temporary, but the architecture is solid.

    A slightly dark kharaa entrance (It has flashing lights, whoops, i took the pic when it was off <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    This is also the new join team sign font, it's quite small, but it looks sexy, and that's what counts. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Another shot of the room, the cracked open door at the top of the stairs is impassable, but shows a little external detail. The door to the left is the kharaa entrance.

    Sweeeet. Looks really atmospheric, and I also kinda like the lighting. Maybe a few particle systems in the rr and some more colored lighting? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Woah, thanks for reminding me, i totally forgot to put in particle systems. I won't post new pics when they're in, but they will be. The vent in the middle will have smoke flowing downwards (yes, it's cold steam) and there will most likely be a haze around the kharaa entrance. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Bush in the third picture looks out of place...I'd get rid of it, or make it more bush like so it can be used for skulks to hide in.

    Looks good so far! Did the walk around and I have to say... wow. Something silly that I noticed is that particle system near marine spawn, coming up from the bottom of the door... it looks good close up... but it's too bright or something. It also makes a lot of noise... but only when you are close to it. I like the ambient music as well. It flows well with the NS music that cuts in now and then. GJ!

    And in game, the little bushes in MS look quite good. (Just goes to show, screenshots never do a map justice.)

    That's the thing, in passing the bushes look fine, but if you get near one, they do look like crap. I might model some weeds or yellow grass soon, but that won't be needed until the end of the map's production really.

    shame you had to lose the old RR...it will be missed...

    I think you need to brighten up this RR a bit and it would be cool to see some detail past the metal grid in the cieling....making it transparent I mean <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It is transparent now, but i see what you mean. I may add a few lights above each grate so you can see above, it'll add a bit of depth to it.

    And the old RR has already been cut into 2 sections, the one with the piston (the unfinished part) will most probably be scrapped, but the part with the monitors etc will most likely stay.... I spent too damn long on that RR to just throw it all away. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    i love it, its great, one comment, the particle systems make lower end systems lag....

    the place where the moniter is giving off the greenish light (near the dead end) is great

    you cant read the signs in the RR ( if this was in the read me please kill me now)
