Adjusting it - no not to cheat that sux
- When I fire up all games - my GAMMA sucks - Powercolor 9800 Pro! (some say the motherboard is to blame - A78nx deluxe). (not the montitor - its my 3rd!!)
- I use powerstrip (normally) to bring it up to what I think is reasonable (yes I know some people think its an exploit! - If you want to cheat I am sure there are better ways than this!). My comparisons are based on screenies - but slightly darker - as I am sure they have been 'enhanced' to show people what they are detailing. (sometimes a lot darker!!)
- In NS (not a problem with Steam - I also Play DoD) I can no longer use PowerStrip - the key combinations are no longer recognised.
- I have found an alternative for now which works (email/pm me for info) but its a 30 day free trial, so hopefully before that expires something can be done?
Otherwise - it looks fine (better than ever) I hav'n't tried combat yet - but I got a lan weekend coming up - hoping the dedicated server lets us play!?
To all involved in the NS scene - great job! I will pay for it if you make it available retail!
Eat you later!

Its not cheats because without increasing my gamma somehow my screen is black - no joke.
The only way to play the game is to crank the monitor brightness and contrast up, giving a completely washed out look without fixing the problem.
Also, enabling hotkeys for catalyst doesn't work either - Unless someone has any other ideas, I think my Half Life days are numbered, it's simply unplayable without being able to adjust the gamma.
Joe
I say it's ok to ajust gamma to help you see if your game is PITCH BLACK, but not to the point your gama exploiting and taking advantage of being able to see all the map.
zippy
IMO, game should be designed so that gamma doesn't give you a disadvantage, so I've adjusted mine to make sure I'm not killed blind.
Read -> think -> reply.
Just because he is using PowerStrip it doesnt mean that he is exploiting. Maybe you dont have any gamma problems, but other people certainly do, and it sucks if you cant change it.
Some people have old monitors that are very dark. Dark games are just plain dumb(when rendered terribly like HL). Why should i die because somebody can see me but i cant see them. I dont know why they try and make NS so dark and "atmospheric". HL does such a terrible job at rendering dark areas. If i wanted to be scared or feel "atmospheric" ill play a game with cool graphics and lighting. I think the anti power strip is a feature to prevent people from exploiting it. I could care less if people crank up the gamma.
just put in texgamma 1 and lightgamma 1 in your config and bam your gamma's all jacked up
I mean, I don't have mine cranked so high that I can see deep into an unlit vent, but I do spot the occasional cloaked skulk, even with the decent boost that cloaking got in NS3.
It just sounds like the sort of complaint somebody who only plays as aliens would make.
Shockwave: Where did you get adobe gamma anyway? Last time I needed it, I searched there site for a while and couldn't find it, is it still free?
I personally recommend the Adobe Gamma Loader. It's never done me wrong, even on an OLD monitor, and gets rid of at least some of the gammajack accusations as it doesn't have any hotkeys to raise or lower the gamma values (or at least, on the version I'm using it doesn't.. haven't updated in a while).
Personally, I'd love to see any clans/players who use this to get ahead attend an actual tournament LAN, with 'clean' hardware, all initialized to the proper values intended for NS play. Watch them take a header into the bit bucket as they can't magically see everything clear as day, and be laughed out of the establishment as they get pounded over and over.

Now that is config hacking. If you do that then you should be banned. These commands give you a much bigger advantage than just uppiung your gamma.
ATI hotkeys should work for everyone, just check to see they are configured properlly.
Also, i don't know why NS does this because CS and DoD both work find and use my desktop gamma settings, which allow me to see the game. NS switches from my high desktop gamma back to very dark default settings whenever i load it. When i join the game i have to press my hotkey to increase gamma once and it sets my ingame gamma back to normal so that i can see, but without making everything white.
NS and ATI related bug? This would suggest it is an NS bug considering it works for all other games, HL mods included. I even had this problem in 2.01 with my ATI card. I didn't have this problem when i had my old geforce3, however.
Adobe Gamma Fixxed it though

Those settings do nothing for me - I have a Radeon 9600 Pro.
NS is pitch black unless I mess around with alt+tab to try and use my gamma PowerStrip sets.
This is a pain in the ****, can something be done about it NS wise to remove any 'gamma' reset controls or something? Its just annoying and if its not fixed ill just remove the game, I cant play it when its pitch dark.
I played 2.01 on steam for a while and my hotkeys worked fine
( hotkeys are a must for someone like me because halflife resets the gamma all the time. now in 3.0 steam the gamma gets reset every time I bring down the console or any of the other stuff (friends, server list, etc.)
I installed 3.0 and my hotkeys still worked fine for several days, now all of a sudden they don't work anymore and It doesn't make any sense at all.
Where can I downlod Adobe Gamma? Cant find it on their website...

If it's a 'hack' the command wouldn't exist or at least be blocked.
I bet you think "bind mwheelup +attack' is a config hack too.

lol seriously. I know almost all there is to know about config hacking and the HL engine. That, my friend, IS config hacking.
Any half-decent cvar blocking program like wwcl or hlguard would block these cvars. The CS community knows it's cheating and so does the dod community. Get with the program.
Those cvars are cheats, external gamma is not cheats. Simple.
You can find in it on search engine I think, but I found it in Kazaa Lite, downloading at your own risk though..O-o

wow for the guy calling out "config hacking" thats pretty damn funny
if the game is unplayable and they use those commands to SEE in ns or an aformentioned mod and its not blocked that means its perfectly fine... stop acting all above everyone elese maybe he just wants to play the game
btw i have to ad this AHAHHAHAHAHAH you say "config hacking" ahhahahahahha, everything there is to know about hl hacking eh? maybe you oughta stop hacking BWABWBABWABWBWABBAWBWABBWABWa and dl'ing meta cheat doesent mean you know everything there is to know about hl hacking fyi
Each time the topic was reduced to flames and exploit accusations.
I have the problem due to my monitor. I even have to crank up the gamma on my desktop! For this reason I purchased powerstrip (loads cheaper then new screen....)
This is a bug. Software should never render other software useless.. especially the stuff we paid for.

You know nothing.
Back on topic: I saw something on adobe's website that said adobe gamma is installed with photoshop, and I couldn't find it as a separate product.
ps: kazaa lite is spyware created by the RIAA you should delete it.
as for using 3rd party stuff sounds like over kill to me.
