Well lightgamma is even more kind of a cheat, because it completely eliminates shadows.. If you just use external program you only change overall gamma, so game is still visible on your monitor.. Internal game gamma settings also distort image too much, causing some areas tio be overbrighted and painfull to eyes..
How to make powestrip work with steam NS?
Go to application profile configuration in powerstrip (right click ps icon and you will see it), select "hl.exe" as an appliction shortcut to monitor, then select "monitor keyboard controller for hotkeys" from list on the right..
When you save this, you will be able to change gamma using powerstrip as usually :-)

I personally recommend the Adobe Gamma Loader. It's never done me wrong, even on an OLD monitor, and gets rid of at least some of the gammajack accusations as it doesn't have any hotkeys to raise or lower the gamma values (or at least, on the version I'm using it doesn't.. haven't updated in a while).
Personally, I'd love to see any clans/players who use this to get ahead attend an actual tournament LAN, with 'clean' hardware, all initialized to the proper values intended for NS play. Watch them take a header into the bit bucket as they can't magically see everything clear as day, and be laughed out of the establishment as they get pounded over and over. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> haha the last paragraph gives me the giggles every time.

This was talked about in the Constellation forum during the closed beta. It's not done on purpose, it's a bug. In fact, Max said so in this thread. I use PowerStrip. Does anyone remember the adjusting guide that came with NS 1.0 and 2.0? I followed that guide to get everything just perfect. I NEED it, because no matter how many config commands I use, NS is still dark. I literally can't see anything, except the occasional phase gate or electricity thing.
I used to work around it by closing every other window but NS, minimizing NS, setting my brightness/contrast through PowerStrip, and then ALT+TABbing back to NS. Then, if that doesn't fix it, I just hit ALT+TAB (It has nowhere to go if you closed every other window, so it won't lose focus) until it does. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work in the public beta.
Bottom line: Bug. Tuning your gamma is not an exploit. Using commands not blocked by Flayra in your config is not an exploit. Do not bring clan wars in to threads, please.
<b>EDIT:</b> I think I may have found a workaround! Go to Application Profiles and set up for "hl.exe" in the SteamApps/Bla@bla.com/half-life and check off "Delay write to palette DAC" and "Monitor keyboard controller for hotkeys". I haven't tested it, but it seems like it would work!

Thank you all - I hope to go through some of the options presented to get myself back into the game. I understand this whole thing to be just a bug - hopefully fixed soon (havnt tried the new patch for 3!). I will look to get a new video card when I can scrape up the money! Cheers all.
