Coincidence? We keep hearing that there will be a week PR before release... Could it be the seven days of maps at readyroom? Which *me looks at watch* means release in 5 days?

    ummmm YES release it  word of mouth is the best advertising you can get and its free. Almost everyone I know knows about NS I think enough people will be playing it without a PR blitz

    It's been argued and then reargued.  Drop it.  They are not going to release it before the PR blitz and anyone who thinks logically knows the PR blitz will only help the games fan base.  We're all excited for it, but we all want it to meet its full potential crowd.  Besides, it doesn't "cost" anything to get screenshots/interviews/movies mentioned on big Half-Life sites.

    Well from what i understand its just a 7 day pic fest of the 'official' maps in the first release. Once they code is 'gold' then the 7 day count down will start. They're still playtesting, so i dont think the code is quite gold yet, but be patient and let monse taunt you.

    They arn't waiting to release just to do a PR blitz. During that time many things will move into action. First and foremost previously unreleased media will be released.
    (Trailer anyone?) Followed closely by news sites such as planet HL to put it on the front page and inform everyone that release is near. The last thing before the actual game is uploaded to every mirror you can think of the dedicated server stuff will go out, linux and otherwise. No doubt Monse has much in store for us though.

    EDIT:Oh and the 7 days, 7 mapper thing on RR.org is a leading up to the PR blitz in my opinion. Keep in mind this is ALL speculation.

    Umm, The part 1 of 7 it´s not a countdown, there are 7 ns official maps, and each day they feature a new one, dunno if after this 7 days the pr blitz will start or not...... But this anyways its just an speculation, i REPEAT, THE PR BLITZ <b><i><u> WONT!!</b></i></u> start after those 7 days...... Atleast its not official ;D
    Anyways, don´t spread rumours.

    Ugh with the speculation.  Yes, it's getting closer.  But it's not done yet.  The blitz will hit many places with mucho info.  And I'm sure Monse will let us know besides.  In any case, just relax... it's coming.

    During these seven days, several things will happen. There will be tons of info going everywhere, manual- movies, trailers, every major half-life site will get contacted and anyone who visits them will know, and while this blitz is going on servers will begin being uploaded and everything will set up so it is not too messy when the release hits. But I swear, I will defecate the moment I read: NS has gone gold! Yep you've heard it, after 2 loooonnnggg years of coding, making animations, maps, and just beating the hell out of the game in playtests- the game is finally hear! This marks day 1 of our 7 day pr blitz countdown, please take in as much knowledge about the game in our updated download section which now features a manual, movies, and an offical NS trailor!!!

    Contrary to what you may believe, word of mouth is *not* the best form of PR.  If it were, companies wouldn't spend hundreds of billions of dollars advertising on TV/radio/etc.  A week of NS PR will catch a lot more people (infrequent readers of PHL and other gaming news sites) than simple word of mouth - or even a single day of PR -possibly could.

    You lot do not listen.  MonsE clearly staded that Flayra would announce that NS has gone gold, and <b>then</b> the PR Blitz will begin.  Has Flayra announced that NS has gone gold?  No.  Therefore the PR Blitz has not started.  Besides, screenshots of 7 maps is not a "blitz".

    does that mean the game will go out, the few who know about it will start trying to play while the PR machine reaps it's dark harvest

    OR

    does this mean the game will go gold, and we'll have to wait for the PR blitz to be over before we get to play?

    the news imply the former, the posts and tone of the boards imply the latter, neither one of which is "right" or "wrong" just wondering which would be selected.
    (and yes *I* am biased on which one i would like, but i'm just some joe schmo)

    Well, when a game goes 'gold' that means that its being packed up and shipped, so in 1-2 weeks of going gold, the game is out.  So, in that period of time, the 1-2 weeks, the PR Blitz will happen.

    But NS is not a retail game, thus there will be no packing or shipping.

    Going gold does NOT mean it's being packed.

    Going gold means the final, master copy of the game has been created (originally a gold cd) and is ready for reproduction. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    I doubt that will happen with NS though - it will be finished, PR blitzed, then released.
