Notice that (p) walrus is not: Walri, because it sounds too bizarre. Also notice in all these examples there is a long "i" sounds. Oni, Onii, whatever, has a long "e" sound (to my eyes at least).
Therefore: Oni is linguistically wrong. Onoses is too cumbersome to say, and thus Onos is clearly the winner.

I know Flayra has his preference, but that is because of precisely this: there is no clear answer. I think THAT much is clear.
The reason it is not "oni" is because the -i suffix comes from Latin. If we are going to make onos a Latin word - see other posts <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Oni IMO does sound retarded. Furthermore there is no reason to use it. The people who justify it seem to think that this is the right way to pluralize in English. It is not. It would indeed be onoses or some such bastardization, which of course may seem cumbersome as well.
The only reason to use "oni" is because Flayra endorsed it. Do not fake Latinize us. Well, after the intital "Awwww ****" of seeing 2+ onos charging at you, I feel it's just more natural to spam "ONOS" until every last one of my marine teammates eyes bleed. Oni....It just doesn't seem to fit. Plus, it just sounds cooler.

Also notice in all these examples there is a long "i" sounds. Oni, Onii, whatever, has a long "e" sound (to my eyes at least).
Therefore: Oni is linguistically wrong. Onoses is too cumbersome to say, and thus Onos is clearly the winner.

I know Flayra has his preference, but that is because of precisely this: there is no clear answer. I think THAT much is clear.
The reason it is not "oni" is because the -i suffix comes from Latin. If we are going to make onos a Latin word - see other posts <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Oni IMO does sound retarded. Furthermore there is no reason to use it. The people who justify it seem to think that this is the right way to pluralize in English. It is not. It would indeed be onoses or some such bastardization, which of course may seem cumbersome as well.
The only reason to use "oni" is because Flayra endorsed it. Do not fake Latinize us. Darnit, I said this on the third page. I also said that, in the event that different species of onos come forth, Onoses would be the correct term. I was just trying to say it in simpleton terms, and apparently it got devoured by the plethera of posts that followed it (no pun intended).
*Edit - I also forgot to mention that you could use <u>either</u> until a different species of onos come about, in which case it would need a change. Yea, in NS Flayra is God. He makes the rules. He says what it is, and that is what it is for no reason, other than thats what he said.
