Uh, no. See, "Oni" is the closest thing to Demon in a language from "Onos." Besides, don't you watch anime? If it can rip through a hundred men and destroy a building, they begin asking if it's a demon. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I've always used Ono as the plural of Onos.

if you compare the word to similar words in the english language, you might come to the conclusion that onos=plural and oni=singular like the word cacti/catcus get the drift?

I use "onos" as both plural and singular (kinda like the word "moose"). It really annoys me (I'm a grammar nazi kinda guy) when I hear some 9th grader say "I'm going ono" on the mic. At least that's not even an option in this poll.

I say onos, because plural things ending in -i, have to be of latin origin, and if those things are in singular, they end with -us, not -os. I say onos because it's literately correct.

Like other words that end with "os" it sounds similar to words with a latin/greek origin, therefore it's "Oni" kthxbai

But, when those are singular, they end with a -us, not an -os...It doesnt work that way...

Why do you force the meaning of demon in a game thats is not even vaguely religious, japanese or related to anime? Its onos, as in many 'oh no's said by plural marines when ANY onos comes. Thats all it means. Dont force "japanese" or "demon" into it just "cuz it sounds cool". (I know you dont mean this, but thats what some people are trying to do)

For the latin comments, I remember two threads where the conclusion was, if Onos was latin, the plural form would be Onus. Rip on Flayra for not including onus in the poll.

The rules of the english language are not set in stone. There are exceptions, many more then other languages which is why it makes such a difficult yet versatile language to learn.

    I before E except after C, etc.

    Vote: Oni

Umbra, are you just stupid? I'm not forcing any religious, Japanese, or anime meaning into it. This is just what everyone was saying when this debate popped up back in 1.0.

I remember a while back a topic about something like this and someone had said something like:

Everyone knows the plural of Onos is F4!

I won't take the credit for myself.

I voted Onii because that is what I use, but after I saw Fletcher's very persuasive drunken-irishness, well I want to change my vote! Long live the revolution! (If it is still alive...)

hehe, you musta just missed the brackets. Im saying THOSE people are forcing the meaning.

And keep the insults outta this thread, this thread has been blessed by Flayra.

With that sentence I would use Oni to imply there was more than one. However, I might say something like "I saw three Onos around the corner" since the number already designates how many there are. To be honest, I initially felt that "Onos" was the plural for multiple Onos/Oni, but recently I've been using Oni more frequently due to the reason stated above.

You can just avoid all that confusion and unnecessary puzzlement with "Look out for the cows!"

99% of people would know what your talking about.

Thinking about it here, "Oni" sounds more correct.

However, in game I have only said "There are two onos", so that's what I voted for.

Onos is a made up word without any roots in Latin or Japanese. It isn't really part of the english language. You can pluralize it however you want and nobody will care. There's nothing more to it than that.

You got it backward. Cactus is singular (like onos, although the endings are different), and cacti is plural (like oni).

    Where's the option for PWNOSTROSITIES...

Anyways the manual uses Onos as the plural so that is what I consider the correct form to be.

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> The dreadnaughts of the Kharaa, the Onos are tanks – highly armored and very powerful. They are so large they cannot use crawlspaces and many of the narrow passages found on human ships and bases. I demand a third option: "Look out for the Onoses!"

    I also demand some pie.
