nothing wrong with opinions diablus; everyone's full of them... I think the real problem here is some weird lack of manners on the net that exists in RL. I know there's 'annonimity' in the net and you can't be beaten to death but it's not really as annonymous as people are mistaken in thinking; after all you can make a post with a name then never come back or continue under a different name; that'd be somewhat annonymous outside of tracing your IP but people usually stick with a name, an identity; a representation. When you go about being a jerk with that you're just accumulating a reputation for being an idiot so why bother? You wouldn't do it to your friends in RL why do it here? Is there some odd perception that just because all you can see is their text that there's not a 'real' person on the writing end of it?
I think there's this childish image of stabbing in with a cutting post then sitting in the shadows giggling at the chaos it reaps; which is pretty far from what happens... the post either goes ignored or just ticks people off a little. That or 'OMG!!! THIS IS MA OPINEEON!!! REED IT!!! I AM TEH RIGHT!!!' =P
I never fail to be amazed at how people on the internet mistake theories for fact, ideas for reality and opinions for truth or 'the way things must be'...
I don't mind some negative comments as much as I hate the person who comes into every **** thread and says something negative, especially if it's a nonsensical, stupid criticism of the thread.
If you've got a point on the lacking aspect of the issue being discussed, feel free to share it. If you're going to put up some stupid opinion of yours with no backing, just shut up and take yourself elsewhere to bring some other thread down.

This is off-topic, you're in a public realm. There's no IQ test before you can access this forum, and there's no essay assignment to be able to submit a reply. There are idiots in this world, and a good percentage of them have access to the internet.
If you open a topic here, it is expected that some will disagree. It is also expected that someone with the mental capacity of a walnut is going to come through your topic and leave his one-line though, as well as some drool on your floor. The important thing is for you to have a little patience, and most importantly, carry through the conversation. If you can't ignore stupid posts through in your replies to the topic at hand, then maybe you need to not take things so seriously. In General Discussion, we delete ignorant posts. In the Discussions forum, we delete ignorant posts. This is off-topic? How does one go off-topic from off-topic? A bit of a conundrum, eh?

well gem.. these forums aren't that bad.
i've participated in some arguments with truly dogmatic people.. but the large majority of the arguments took place at other forums. this forum isn't so bad when it comes to open-mindedness. if i'm arguing something and i "lose", well.. i never really "lose". nobody does. if i'm wrong, i'm wrong, but i learned something. when they're being serious, most of the people on these boards know the difference between blind, dogmatic rambling and logical discussion.
No IQ tests. Maybe a culture test. You have to answer trivia questions to join. The questionare would cover all the landmarks in gaming and things gamers love.

I'd just like to point something out: if this thread is aimed at people who pop in to make a negative comment and then leave, never to be heard from again, then you're wasting your energy; exactly as posts telling people not to whine about game balance, exactly as posts telling people to read the FAQs before posting - for the simple reason that such people do not read threads like this before posting.
Which just leaves fish out of water, those who post about their dislike of anime in an anime thread. That's a different issue. And honestly, if someone posts something you don't like, on the internet, there's no reason to get worked up over it. Some total stranger on the other side of the world is dissing what you hold dear... big deal. Don't be insulted at the "lack of respect" they're showing you. Grow up. Honestly. The internet is the last place you should be taking things personally.
sure the one-offers probably won't even read this but there's nothing wrong with a little venting from time to time scorp... which is pretty much what this thread will have helped a few people do ^^

Know what I'd like to see, is that those who spend a ton of time in Off-Topic, post great stuff and all that, get a Tenth of a Mod vote. Basically, if 10 people with this vote something, its done like a mod's. So if someone does a 1 liner, or posts warez- they have a darn good chance at getting temp-banned right there(maximum penalty from the 1/10 moderators. The mods will take notice, and thus take care of the problem after enough). And it'd only be in OT. It could work, with the Intelligent ones of us.
