Yeah I think we got to use those first-generation ones.
Me and my buddies played on some lan shop 2 years ago (it was the first lan shop to have optical mouses), after playing a couple of hours there, we concluded that optical mouses were bad for FPS games <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Wireless mouses = bad, they run on batteries which run out. As a result the designers put in very low resolutions in the optical ones, as a result - crap gaming mouse.
Ball mouse = bad these days, so many people have nice sensitive optical ones you're at a distinct disadvantage if you stick to your ball.

It's quite good with NS and Wolf. I do admit sniping is not my preferred fighting style. I have long since ceased to play other shooters but may try..
What I find is, pointer behavior seems computer dependent. On the good computer which unfortunately my dad owns I have no problem at all; on my current one there are occasional lapses where I get stuck facing a direction in NS.
I have a ~$9 IBM optical mouse (my parents work at IBM so I have discount - whatever I didn't buy it nor will I since it PWNZ) and it's been banged up pretty well for over a year now, still completely usable for gaming. If only I could get this computer replaced.

j/k, but in fact you don't need to worry about batteries with the mx700 because when you're not using the mouse you put it in its charger.
