I Quit Ns.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this.
I think that I'm finally done with NS. This isn't because of the community or the Veteran program or whatever, but it's because the game itself is getting boring. I've pretty much memorized most pub strategies by now and the game is boring to me now because of things like that. Also, I've been playing more newer games lately and when I go to play NS it has that... old... feeling... O_o. Recently I've been playing newer games and half of the time I dont feel like opening up NS anymore.

Yeah, I didn't need a long speech. *dons flame retardant suit*

I'd flame you, but we don't have a flamethrower!

Why don't you wait for 3.0? I'm sure that'll spice things up again.

Eh. I quit for a while, too, but that sure didn't last. You'll be back. Couple months down the road, you'll miss teamwork, and we'll be waiting for you.

While I still play ns, I know how you feel, I play it less atm because it doesn't give me that seem feeling it did when I was a newbie, there was this massive game with so many possiblities to master. And I know longer fear skulks

    I feel for ya dude.

I've felt this way on many occasions about MANY games out there. The first thing that gives the lack luster feel is the aging graphics/game engine that the game uses. That can't really be helped to a large degree, but it still holds true. The other factor (which I personally find more important) is the lack of true diversity in gameplay for whatever game I'm playing. This would apply to some degree to Natural-Selection as there are really only 3 of 4 "useful" strategies and there is hardly any room for strategy morphing (switching strategies in mid stride). The aliens are even more single minded for strategies because of the importance of some upgrades being more than others at standard times during the game. That doesn't always apply and will be addressed in 3.0, but even then the strategy is still limited in my opinion.

I also have to always tell myself that NS is only a mod... a VERY ambitious and spectacular mod, but still a mod. I can hardly expect the grandeur that I might from a game that has been in development for say 3-5 years. I often find myself disappointed even by these games however. This leads me to having a trend of simply finding a new/different game every month or so including revisiting games i've played before. There was even a time where I just got sick of gaming alltogether. I've been lucky to find myself liking NS longer than most games. I haven't yet left it for some other game, though I do play 3 others simultaneously (Dungeon Siege, Diablo II, and Neverwinter Nights) trading off which game I play every other day or so. You might want to try this so you don't get burnt out playing NS all the time, its worked for me so far.

But Bistro is right. No matter what happens, I'm sure you'll be back.

Have you no life or nothing better to do than ridicule him for starting legitimate conversation? Are you wanting attention because you otherwise cannot come up with something legitimate to talk about? Furthermore... are we supposed to feel sorry for your apparant lack of imagination/curiosity/analytical intelligence/etc...?

You WILL note that posting on this forum by no means indicates that he is still playing the game, but is reaching out in a way to try and influence further releases to be interesting enough to merit his (and many others I would assume) return to the game in the future.

In the future, please limit your discussion to something that could be deemed USEFUL to the thread.

Moderator: please feel free to get rid of this post as it is indeed a counter-flame and off-topic to the thread.

How is griping about how boring the game is a "legitimate conversation"? There was no legitimate critique or advice at all in the post.

Hey guess what, I don't like old people because they are boring so I knocked over an old lady and laughed at her. Why don't we talk about that?

I don't get what the point of these "look at me I'm leaving" posts are about. If it's boring just leave politely don't drag everybody into it.
  • ScribblesScribbles Join Date: 2003-11-05 Member: 22323Members
His point wasn't about leaving, it was about him leaving because the game gets old and repetitive too fast, and that that's a problem.
  • PalinPalin Join Date: 2003-03-24 Member: 14848Members
It is true that the initial post did not have anything useful to be said, but it DID allow for further analysis of how the game is boring by other people commenting. Like I mentioned earlier, he is just voicing something that many other people also feel. Instead of marking him with a blanket of flame, I think it would be prudent to discuss why it is boring to many and try to rectify the situation. Again, like I also mentioned, some of the issues involved are addressed in 3.0 and that will bring back a portion of our community that got bored with what we have now.

Applying blanket flames hardly brings about progress.

Solution: Add a new gun or Kharaa.

I know that feeling too, i remeber when it was all new and exciting, everyday was a new different battle, but now its just a mass tech rush.

Would love to see 3 different classes for marines, just health/armor/speed wise... That would imho spice things up a bit and allow alot more different tactics on the marine side. Flame away !

Female marines would "spice" things up.

The odd thing about NS is that I never feel compelled to play the game, but when I'm playing it I can't seem to stop because I'm having so much fun.

I think to improve longevity of NS the marine "feel" might need to be worked on. Kharaa feel perfect (assuming the lerk flight in much improved as they say it is) but the marines feel awkward for me. This could just be me of course. I definetly think JP flight should be looked at again to make it more fun.

New 3.0 maps are gonna help freshen up the game alot too. Each map brings with it tons new places to explore, new strategies and stuff. No need for new equipment at all (though that rocks too).

The thing is, it's not so much that he's stopping playing the game. We're a community. A good deal of us know and chat to each other every day, either on here or on IRC. Y'know, it's much nicer to tell people you're disappearing than to just get up and go and have people wonder where you went.
