I Started Deus Ex Once Again

haven't played it in a while
And boy does it kick a lot of ****. I'm taking down the NSF. UNATCO? No? Oh well, I'll just shoot everyone. It's amazing how much less obnoxious the models and animations are in the original than in Invisible War. At least in the original they don't stare at you like they are constantly surprised.

And yes, the skill system does kick ****. I boosted Computers to advanced right at the beginning. Unleashing the turrets on your enemies never gets old. But the AI is...awkward, but what I like about it is that it doesn't have eyes in the back of it's head so you can actually sneak by.

Oh yes, and JC Denton doesn't look like an idiot, unlike the main character in Invisible War.

I'm just waiting till I get that stupid looking lightsaber.

I just finished it again two days ago.

Utter classic, the attention to real life detail in the story lines. Not many games are bassed on enough conspirys.

    very good game.

I always hated the dependance on energy cells for using your augs though. I always got paranoid and ended up never using my augs at all for fear of becoming dependant on them and running out of power :/

    Other than that, classic.

So, I gotta ask you one thing Rellix.

How big did your saved games folder get ?

I know that mine have gone past 600MB in the past for that game.

Hehe those saved games, well i aparently saved 346 times which seems a slight high considering i finished it in 1 week (last week) but originaly i did manage to fill a 640Mb CD when i was formating.

Ok HOW THE HELL DID I SAVE 346 TIMES!!!! 3.65 GB

That wont be there in the morning.

When will developers lern to make saves small and managable.

The single best aug that will DRAG YOU through that game and is by FAR the most useful:

The Fast Run Aug. You can leap from the tallest building, you can run past your enemys. Your so fast you charge into people with melee before they can shoot you. The stealth run aug is completely negated by the fact you can crouch going normal running speed.

I love Deus Ex and I don't think I'll even try Deus 2. Its liking watching Revolutions and Reloaded, it just ruins the classic.

The regen aug saved me constantly, and it also pretty much worked better than the aqualung aug without having to upgrade it.

Regen + Ballistic resistance + Combat strength + Fast run + Dragon's Tooth = The Winnar.

I once took on an entire squad of MJ12 commandos that way. On Hard....

It was quite the pile of bodies left laying around. I just beat it again a few days ago... Maybe I should play through again trying not to kill anyone?

Regen is an absolute must-have. Personally, I don't like fast run because it makes the game too short; you can simply run right through many of the game's puzzles. The nice thing about regen is that a repair bot becomes a health regen station as well as an energy regen station. Which is why I dislike medbots.

I used my augs a fair bit, but I never used my biocells. I always do that - I never use things like health or mana potions or special powerups or anything because I always think I'll need them later for something important. The fact is, Deus Ex does actually give you ample biocells. Conserve them, but you'll get plenty. Without using any, you find that you're full before you reach Hong Kong.

I love that game. I feel like Warren Spector is like some sort of Gaming Saint Nick with some of the wonderful stuff that has come out of his neck of the woods, even if he isn't making it directly, his influence seems to make a profound impact.

I actually made it through good portion of the the game without actually killing anyone, I would just invest in stuff like run silent and melee strength and use a baton to get the drop on enemies and knock them out. I think at the end of the game I could melee with the big power suit dudes. I had something for the robots, but I never did think of it as killing when I wrecked them. I think the only time I really got into actually killing anyone was when I was saving my brother in his appartment, I sniped near everyone in the head as they were gunning for my borther, and I just couldn't have that.

Did anyone actually make big use of the heavy weapons skill? I think I got a kick out of using the rocket launcher.

Finally, I just bought Deus Ex: Invisible War but haven't started yet, and I think I mostly got it out of nostalgia for the first. Long live Warren Spector!

    Oh god, the flashbacks!
Slicence + regen + cloak + dragon tooth = WIN!
Rember the big hand room in hong kong...Lets just say that the didnt know what hit em!
And then there was the underwater lab, that was like trying to get through a maze made of dynamite sticks, and your wearing a burning suit.
I had immense trouble on that...Oh and that goverment guy (forgot his name) well he was pwned in 1 shot by my dragons tooth!

I just run up to enemies and prod them. It saves me a lot of trouble.

Yeah, nothing like having an energy sword that collapses down to the hilt yet takes up 4(!) inventory spaces. Oh well, it's still worth it.

I'm getting the sequel for x-mas (despite its flaws), so yeah, I played through it again too. Good times.

the inventory bug was a life saver with having to carry the Gep, the sniper, the addult right, sword, pistol, shotgun, crossbow, all needed for course

I can't really add much to what everyone has already said! Except that when I first played it I did so as an 'all-rounder'. Then I switched tactics & strategy totally. I tended to avoid running into combat, so I then decided to play as a Heavy Weapons expert. Then I went for the whole nonlethal thing. I love how it seems like life though - I had to adapt and change. Even in Hong Kong I could get away with nonlethal takedowns, but then I ended up having to kill people. By the time I reached Area 51 I had upgraded Heavy Weapons and took everyone out with my flamethrower. I had abandoned my principles...

I love this game so much ahhhh. Unfortunately I did pollute my good times by playing the sequel, but there wasn't a sequel was there? Of course not...no there wasn't a sequel *twitches*

My favourite thing to do in that game was to knock everyone out on the level, stack them all together and then set them all on fire with the flame thrower.

No real reason for doing that of course, I'm just evil.

I always loved to sneak around doing non-lethal takedowns with the prod or baton, there´s nothing more satisfying than outsmarting your enemies in this game.

When I got tired of this however I used to fool around a bit, like going shopping at the Wan-Chai market, "sitting" on benches and taking a vial of zyme, going into bars to drink a bottle of beer, just chilling out having a little conversation with the townspeople. JC may be augmented, but that doesn´t mean he doesn´t have any social needs.

10 40's + 10 bottles of wine + 10 bottles of scotch (or whatever it is) + 10 bottles of zyme. Then talk to people (the camera zooms in all the way on their faces) or try to operate a switch or something. Or try to whack something with the baton. Good times

I just upgrades my pistol with everything I could find. I mostly used stealth shooting, and partially hacking.

It was such a good game, you can remember so many cool areas from it. I found the apartment and the sword themselves before the game hinted at it, and it still kept going. That's how games should be made.

And, of course, there's nothing more fun than throwing basketballs at bums.

Yes I only found out much later on my SECOND thru of Deus Ex that you could actually save Paul.

Me being the perfectionist I am it nearly KILLED me.
  • SuddenFearSuddenFear Join Date: 2003-06-21 Member: 17571Members
Completed it yesterday, by taking a "kill all" path. NSF commanders - taunted then stabbed in the face. Lebedev - repeatedly shot as soon as I turned the corner.Anna Navarre - GEP rocket in the face before she could say a word. Former UNATCO buddies - torn down by my assault rifle and then dumped in Sam Carter's armoury. :D Maggie Chow - said hi, leapt at her with a sword, chopped her down and then made a leap out of the window as the alarms started to ring. Landed in Jock's apartment and threw a basketball back up, just to **** the MJ12 troopers off. Next time, I'm going to try and complete the game without updating any skills. Combat gets horribly dull once you have rifles on "master" anyway.

    http://www.it-he.org/deus.htm

Alternate walk-through. See how far YOU can carry Lebedev's corpse around. When I tried this "anti-walthrough", I got to Hell Kitchen Revisited and then dumped him. D:
