Sorry, each and every date you have heard is wrong. There is no release date, because the devs themselves don't know how long it will take them to get it to a version they are happy with. I heard they were originally hoping for a Halloween release, but that's long passed. Then they were shooting for "before Christmass". Whether they will hit that or not is not known to anyone. I think it is likely to take another couple weeks and get released early January, but that's pure speculation. It will be released when they are satisfied that it's done.

well, Hey devs, ill be happy with it as is for now. =)

I wouldn't rule out a pre-christmas release, but it sounds like there's still a whole lotta balancing to be done, so I think it's more likely to be January time-ish.

I've learned over the years to always take release dates with an air of pessimism, saves me from being let down (damn you Valve, damn you).

Nil, you cant blame Valve so much as you can blame the H4x bastege s who stole the source.

As for NS, since I have been Pting I have almost placed money on a day, but each time I am wrong, or they add more and than adds more time.

My honest opion from the rate at wich the patches have been flying I would say Feb 1st!
    But thats just my guess

I wouldn't be suprised if thats true because release dates is almost always abit optimistic, but i still hope for a releas sometime in the next couple of weeks

May 2007, at the same time they release HL2. It'll have serious competition with the release of Duke Nukem Forever the week afterward.

nahh Duke Nukem Forever wont make it to the year 2007 because they will not releas it before it's the best FPS in tha world and i doubt that they will beat H-L or DooM II.

    what about TFC2?

this seems kind of silly. I mean, I understand where the devs are coming from, and.. trust their judgement. but they should have said that "hey, we're going on a bug genocide!" first. the changelogs are filled with an insane amount of bug fixes.

it's nice to see NS getting some polish, but some bugs have been so miniscule that it seems subsequent "mini" patches would have sufficed.

though balancing Combat definitely needs to be done, this does worry me...

many will say 2.01 is pretty unbalanced, for them to focus resources on balancing the new mode when the other mode could still use some tweaking just seems somewhat inefficient.

my problem is compounded by the fact that I'm NOT interested in NS:C, though I know most people are. But I'll be honest, the pulse rifle.. I mean.. light machine gun, is not that interesting. none of the weapons are.

the only real reason I play NS is for its RTS factor, deathmatch does not sound that appealing as the base weapons of NS just aren't that interesting.

this isn't intended as a flame, it's just my viewpoint.

I am completely shocked, because this absolutely was not posted in every other copy of this topic. The entire concept is foreign to me.

Indeed, I believe that's why most of us are addicted to NS. Nevertheless, I'm going to try NS:C as an oddity. I'm sure I'll love it, but it isn't going to replace normal NS. Not having experienced it yet, I cannot describe the gameplay, but I would rather go with NS:C than other "deathmatch" games I have tried because of the level up/upgrade/cover CC or hive side of it. It's slightly RPGish (slightly by the fact it should be 5 min games) and that's what got me interested.
But it sure looks less diverse than normal NS where games should be decided by the most creative way to achieve victory rather than brute force. And that's why eventually, most of us would come back to regular NS after the NS:C hype. Of course, by "we" I mean "I", but I think that's the general idea anyway.

Now to link back to the topic: it's ready when it's ready. If it's too rushed, it'll end up bad. Of course, if we have to wait 4 months for it I'm going to get angry, but I'd rather wait 2 weeks for something good than 2 days for something bad <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

Eh. NS:C kinda bothers me. I'm sure it'll be a fun game, but from the way it sounds, not having played it, it looks like an attempt to turn Natural Selection into Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Well actually yes I can, since they announced September 31st as the release date and the source code was stolen in October IIRC....

What really gets me is that they didn't bother to say "Um, actually there's no way we'll be able to release by the 31st" until about a week before. So apparently it took them until a week before the release date to figure out they needed another three (now six, thank you hackerbastage) months to work on it.

We got 1000s of Vets ready to playtest and together help release a better version of NS.
(Did I say better? I mean an AWESOME version of NS... hehe)
BUT, we havent been able yet, because everytime a beta patch comes out to fix something, new nasty evil bugs get introduced, that the game itself is unplayable.
This means that a good unbugged 3.0 will take much more time than thought. Just be patient.
Lots of good changes till now. Even Handgranades for you <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Not to mention NS:Combat.

Correction. It will be released "when it's done" not "when it is ready." That is the official Dev report.

imo they should realease it with a few small bugs. With steam, they can update it whenever they want, fixing those bugs...and it wont tremendously impact gameplay if there not big...

I haven't been around for that long here, but I recall someone bringing up a .txt showing that in the very first versions of NS (not the released ones, the rough ideas of the game) were quite similar to Combat: by fighting you gain RP's. With RP's you gained ability to get upgrades. I don't recall having the commander just yet (though I also recall having heard that the RTS element was the basis of NS, which is in contradiction with what I just said) but it's more individual by the sens every player had his/her own res.

Replace res with exp and you get combat <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Release Date = The earliest time that it could come out, but won't, because where would the excitement be in that?

When it is released it will be released, I just hope servers don't crash and such because of the massive demand for it.

Well, before I wouldn't have worried about, because Bit Torrent rules.

Then I remembered that Steam has its own distro management, so you can't use BT.

The NS 3.0 release is going to be a DISASTER.

I generally think Steam is pretty cool, but if there's one thing that really needs some improvement, it's their distribution system.

Listen, I realize you guys want to play 3.0 but let me make this perfectly clear; the game is not ready. Releasing it right now to appease people's impatience and then just patch bugs afterwards would be disasterous. The official motto is bugs before balance, and right now plenty of bugs are still being worked out(and no, just leaving them in there isn't an option). Honestly I don't think it can possibly be ready for Christmas; 2.0 suffered from its release date and hopefully Flayra won't do that twice. 3.0 currently has quite a long list of bugs, major and minor. And we don't even know if all the major features of the patch are in yet; there are definitely indications that as of now, they aren't. Then once all that is done balance will have to be considered, which if you ask me it definitely needs to be right now.

Not trying to be pessimistic, just stating the facts. Please don't act as if the devs are intentionally holding 3.0 away from you just to fix little bugs that nobody would notice anyway, because that's false.

Steam's distribution hasn't been used once in the beta. Up until now it's always been downloaded builds just like before.

Yeah it's not being used in the beta, because it's not finished, so it still isn't official. Once it gets released, it has to go through Steam, doesn't it?

No. Whether or not it will I don't know but there's no requirement.

NS:C is not turning the game into Castle Wolfenstein. It's still the great NS combat just condensend into a much shorter and bloodier conflict.

Before any release can happen, however, the game must be fit to relase. Flay's churning out new patches at an astonishing rate, and with each on we edge closer to the good version. But when a bug is discovered, it needs fixing. Bugs don't obey any laws, they just come <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thank you.

It's got a long way to go yet, mid feburary would be my guess as the balance can't be tested until there's a solid release - with major bugs eliminated & not adding anything more that'd influence gameplay to much.

    2.01s very good so enjoy that while it's there. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
