Upgrades And Terms.

<div class="IPBDescription">I'm lost at times.</div> I've been playing for about a year on NS.
I'm not sure what the sensory upgrades do, besides cloaking. The Manual here is REALLY out of date.
I hear cat-packs.. WTH are they? Are they back-packs? No clue...
As often as I've played, I've only used the same half dozen upgrades, but what's with focus?

Comments
1) Scent of Fear: basicly a wall hack that allows you to see enemys. Enemys have a red/yellow circle around them.
2) Pheromones: See any enemies when they are weak. Similar to SOF but wayyy more useless. Havent used this one since the v1, so i cant tell you much about it.
3) Cloaking: self explanatory.
The new version of NS that is coming out, V3, has the following upgrades for sensory:
1) Scent of Fear: same as in v2.01
2) Focus: replaces the much useless pheromones. This increases the damage that an attack in slot 1 deals, but at the same time reduces rate of fire. Ex: a skulk with l3 focus can kill a vanilla rine in 1 bite.
3) Cloaking: same as in v2.01
The new Cat-Packs are like stim-packs from some unheard of game. They increase rate of fire and speed, but reduces the health of a marine by 25. IF the health of a marine is less than 26, then it drops the health of the marine to 1.
you get increased run speed and increased rate of fire and you loose 25hp (note that if you have less than 25hp it will not kill you, you just drop down to 1hp)
Strange, it was never included in 1.0, that was the far more useful Enhanced Hive Sight.
Personal, I think it should be SC built first, then DC, then MC.
Me can't wait for 3.0!

If you are playing the current version > you will be flamed to oblivion (or should be) for not informing your team mates which chamber you would like to drop. SC is not the most forgiving first hive chamber and does require more teamwork to utilise fully.
As above, nark posted the next version of NS changes SC into a much more universally acceptable first hive chamber.
Currently if you get SC first you must really get DC next or else your structures and high level evolutions are vulnerable. That means you miss out on MT which limits progress until/if you get third hive.
just my views but generally dropping chambers without asking is flaimbait - unless you drop DC first.

Yeah SC ---> cloak owns if you have a good team.
Usually the NSarmslab.com server has great players on it who make the best out of EVERYTHING.

Pheremoned allowes u to see enemies nearby
Sent of Fear allows u to see enmies that are injured.
I hate that I have seen ppl get kicked or baned for dropping an SC or even an MC first, and some times it was an accident. lets say 8v8....
3 goes gorges and gets rts.... another 2 gets 3 MCs restsaves for fades...
this will force marines to get some sg's pretty fast and electing rts wont help due to healing gorges.... and 2nd hive with dc/sc... (MC and SC is realy spooky :o)

I have been dropping SCs first since they started to cloak buildings. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> When you have a team of 16 players, they NEVER get enough res to go to any higher life forms, so the cloaked skulks won the game. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I still think Movement first is pretty useless. Silence? Hmmm. Not as good as cloak+walking. Jumping to hive under attack? Well you are just about to get another chamber anyway. Making surrounding aliens get energy back faster? Maybe useful for AR spam... but that's hive 3.
In Clan circles putting up SC first is almost unheard of, if you do, you don't have the strength DC's provide when the marines come knocking on your front door. Or when you go fades for cara or regen...
Plus in a clan match as soon as one player notices a skulk uncloak then the obs has the Motion tracking upgrade on it's way and it makes Cloaking almost useless.
So it's interesting to see what the big differences are between pub play and clan play.
I love the variety you get in pub play, but the order and team work you get in a clan match is also really nice.. so it's good that both sides have something going for it.
I'm hoping pubs will help my commanding some (I need some serious practice)...
