maybe if hl would support 100.000+ polys..
• SWAT_PointmanSWAT_Pointman Join Date: 2003-10-05 Member: 21458Members
Make it for HL2 then.
• DarkkizDarkkiz Join Date: 2003-05-28 Member: 16814Members
100 000 pffft. Hl can handle that easily (kinda like running doom 3 on 90mhz pentium, as i said, easily)

Hey c'mon, just use "optimize" - modifier for that and it can be used in ns

Please?

(Note: I'm not going to stop until this is released for ns)

^^ ignore that.

I'll do ANYTHING you want if this gets released

ive said 100.000+ ..maybe it ends at..uhm... insane ammount of polygons the head and the helmet alone (without hair) already got more than 60.000 polys..

I'm the poly-counter around here! I mean, when you have no life such as I, Sid - you gotta do something even if that does include couting 100,000,000+ polygons on an AWESOME model such as this.

AWESOME.

AWESOME model such as this.

I love it when people do Model Art - and this is one of the best I have ever seen! I mean, when at first I saw that render - I thought it was an actual drawing!

I've said it once, and I'll sure-as-hell say it again: Sheena, you're my hero!

wow that is an AMAZING model. What kinda technique did you do to make the model? (splines nurbs what?)
Also, how did you do that render? Well anyway, superb job.

BTW what prog did u use to make it?

• CaptainChetCaptainChet Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15737Members, Constellation
100,000 polies is hard to render even within a program. In games like HL2 entire scenes of battle, characters and all are at about that polycount, so no games in the foreseeable future will be able to use that kind of a model.
• Wolf_KahlerWolf_Kahler Join Date: 2002-11-29 Member: 10252Members
Sheena models quite frequently. It's part of her job. But she gets paid for making fully functional designs for airsoft firearms, which means butt-loads of polies. Also that she has little experience doing low-poly work, such as is needed for games, as she's explained.

As she said, the head and helmet ALONE are nearly 60,000 polies. That means it will be at least 70,000 with hair. Add shoulders, arms and applicable armour and it'll be well over 100,000. Add the entire body and it'll be well over 700,000. I don't see where everyone's getting the 100,000 number.
• WasianWasian Join Date: 2003-05-13 Member: 16268Members, Constellation
Pssh, why stop at 700,000? I say shoot for an even million polies, that sounds good.

Heh, thats not very easy to render. Heres an example of something that has 1.3 million polygons:

BTW yea, your definitly right about that 100,000 number many people have mentioned. I was quite wrong. Hmmm, i didnt kno that sheena mainly modeled.

EDIT: the image (which didnt fit on my poor small site is at the Sci-Fi gallery over at the great site www.3dtotal.com

Bah I say, it only took and hour to render it. And my computers a little better than that, so I could probably render a million poly model in half an hour. Half an hour would be well worth it to view a beautiful model such as this one shall be.

[edit]I'm referring to the scorpion model on the 3dtotal site, the artist said it took an hour to render the model. Just stating that for all too lazy to look at the site.[/edit]

Do you model at all? im just saying that dealing with that much geometry is very difficult. rotating the viewport gets kinda laggy, which gets really annoying really fast. still, things that are 1 mil polys DO look nice
