the map can be helped in various ways.

The glass used for roof panes in one of the pics is way to bright, try and use a different texture, as it looks like disneyland on acid.

Also, the lava, it reminds me of Quake, so just keep on changing and testing to see what it looks like.

Even though its a fun map, you can still make it detailed and realistic. Fun does not mean sloppy.

I think you have a basic map, which if updated and tweaked could be made a hell of alot better.

    Keep it up mate.

Hey, all my maps have been dropped half way through due to other work and social reasons, and massive creative blocks.
You have the shell of a map! go for it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

For the last time it's grammar! Honestly, you are the last person who should be correcting people.
People respect you 2 as mappers, they want your feedback on thier own projects. Keyword is feedback, not insults. One of the great thing about this community is the level of respect we all treat each other with. Thats why your lame joke backfired...not to mention it was just, well lame. All it managed to do was cause this little tif, didnt even get a laugh. GG is right.

BTW, sorry for mispelling your name Esuna.

    This map... needs help :/

Since you're representing NS Armslab with this map, you should definitely think of a few things:

    1. Do we really need another 'fun' map?

No. With the recent advent of NS: Combat and the flurry of maps for it, we actually need regular NS maps. If anything.

    2. How should this map look?

The answer is: great. You want to shoot for professionalism, especially if you're representing a group that desires involvement in the NS development community. The map had better look as good as (if not better than) the maps that are releasing with Natural Selection.

I agree with Doombringer there is a serious shortage of creative an original ns maps being made since the inclusion of ns: Combat.

So instead of making a fun map turn it into an original ns map but before you can do that there are a few changes that are needed.

    1. The layout looks like one giant box try an change it to suit the mapping guidelines.

    2. The rooms aswell look like one big box with very little detail an lighting in them. Put a little thought into it try an think what is the purpose of this room for example if its a storage area it would be good to add a few crates an perhaps an airlock or 2 e.t.c. add detail to each room that will keep a player interested in the map.

    3. Lighting. The lighting in each room is rather dark an plain ..try adding a few more lights or changing the lighting alltogether remember that the lighting can make or break a decent ns map, lighting is if not the most important thing in creating a decent an original ns map.

If this map is going to be converted from a 'fun' map to a more serious map, I suggest starting from scratch.
The layout, architecture, and general feel of that map is on the other side of the spectrum to a serious feeling map. Sorry, but its the truth. If I was you, I would stick to your guns and progress it as the original idea being a fun map.
I mean making fun maps, is a good way of slowly developing your styles or learning new tools on VHe, and so is really a basic tutorial for when you want to step up the hardwork and time consumption and go for the Original style NS map. But with the new Combat mode being released shortly, I think Fun maps will be pushed away from the general overall Natural Selection.

Like Ensuna said, what distinguishes a fun map from any map? hopefully any map should achieve fun, as it is a computer game and that is a form of entertainment.

Personaly I dont like them so-called fun maps becasue of the 3 hour playing of CS_Iceworld..I still bear the scars on my eyelids.
But hey, its a map, and it seems like you have done alot, so Im gonna encourage..cos Im nice <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> and its that time of year.

But getting back to my original point, just carry it on as a fun map, as it was meant to be. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

This map is incredibly ugly - I hope your "true NS maps" don't look like this. I would state the maps numerous problems and defects, but they've already been addressed by other forums members. Some advice - Don't map for NS. You have some serious problems with scale and basic architecture and gameplay concepts. Practice with vanilla Half-Life, using the halflife.wad to solve these problems and improve your abilities. Although the NS textures are pretty, the halflife WAD is much better suited towards actual scaling in-game.
