After all, it's not like NS's aliens vs marines idea is unique. The rts/1st person shooter part, however, is unique, so what's wrong with other mods using it to create something else? It doesn't look like a total rip-off, so what's the harm.

This sounds so unbearably like Battlezone II.. I mean like EXACTLY like Battlezone II,1 comm, 2 races(not 3 :/), all other players are pilots/infantry, and there are AI controlled units, on huge outdoor maps, with real sized buildings o.O.
Nothing wrong with battleZone tho, always liked the game, too bad they didnt make more, looks like a good mod tho.

Halo has aliens, humans... vehicles.. large outdoor maps... a lot of games have the humans versus aliens things, MOST RTS games have different races. It's just another mod. NS was clearly inspired by many, many different things, and many of those things were inspired by many other things, as well... it's just a big cycle.
To make a post and act like this guy is ripping off NS is absolutely ridiculous, and uncalled for. I'd say a mod that has a giant, evil cow that can magically go through tiny corridors deserves ridicule if I didn't know better -- but that game is NS!
Think more before making these kinds of posts. As far as I'm concerned, this whole discussion is just spam.
shouldn't we be happy that a game similar to this game is made? And aren't we supposed to hope it to be EVEN BETTER? I mean "it's time to evolve" does imply we will finish by evolving doesn't it.
Now of course, if you compare it to savage, it's not going to be the same sort of fun, but if it's NS with ++goodies, there's no reason we should hate it.

i made this thread to show people what was coming out, then my personal opinion on *one* aspect of the game. didn't realize it would become a poop-fest. i don't know if you're referring to me skele, or not. i do know, however, that my intent of this post was not the path this thread seems to be taking. oh well.
The only way Flayra could do anything would be if someone used the Natural Selection name; this genre definately does not belong to NS. Anyway, here's another mod that's using the same FPS/RTS theme, and it's looking really cool, though it's development is taking forever: <a href='http://www.unreal-command.com/' target='_blank'>Unreal Command</a>.

Just a thought: you can sue for copyright infringement/plagerism/etc. without releasing a commercial product. Just because you give something away doesn't mean somebody else can sell your stuff.
Don't take this as a support of a lawsuit: that would still be silly in this case. It was just a heads-up about the legal system in the US.
Kappa, before making a NS for HL2, they want it to be perfect for HL, as a port would be quite long, especially if you want to go further than just change engine. You'd want that NS (on HL2) to have stuff like wall destroying, oni charging and crushing buildings, knocking turrets off their feet, etc.. If it's just to have the exact same game, just use HL because it's enough.
I'm not exactely sure why the community believes that Flayra should sue any other FPS/RTS. What if Blizzard had tried to sue Westwood for C&C? Good luck, In Charge.

anyway there is a rts/fps/space flight sim shooter mod announced for hl2..... can't remember the name. All I remember is reading something about fleet captains and soilders and large scale battles, and being able to hijack other ships and ect.
