Anyone Remember Nano-gridlock?

A question to everyone...
For those of you who have been around since 1.0, you probably know or have heard of Nano-Gridlock which was a very popular server back in its hayday during 1.0's release.

As the former admin of the server I guess the reputation preceeds me, however I still get requests and comments from the former patrons and those who knew of the server to bring the server back. For now, I wanted to post here and see exactly how many really want the server back as I have 2 offers to me for server donations.

If the demand is high enough I guess bringing back Nano will be in order with the original configs and rules. Then again I have stood by my original promise to move on after the fall of Nano-Gridlock and only a compelling argument by the community would give me the reason to go ahead and bring it back for everyone to have fun on again.

Don't get me wrong, I actually admire many of the current popular servers (I have a slot on the hamptons server, HAM rocks!) and I am not trying to take away from them at all, just want to add to that list again with an old favorite.

For clan sponsorship I will probably leave it open to the community as a public server since Nano was a favorite spot of many clans and keeping that tradition would be better for the server. Originally the server was sponsoring the Evolutionarily Challenged clan (EC) and we had good times with them and I recorded almost every scrim they had on the server (Flayra attended too) along with the various late-night jetpack races and dogfights. Those I would love to try doing again sometime, the onos races were too funny! I think I still have screenshots of the various crazy things we did on Nano too, but i'd have to look around to find them.

The rules would be tightened up a little to makesure there arent any llamas on the server, then again we rarely had any on the server before, its just a precautionary measure. As for access i'd implement a reserve slot system (similar to that of the Hamptons) with the player count bumped up to 20 instead of the older 16 of course. Server admins would be chosen by people whom are reguler patrons and demonstrate good public relations skills. I still have the old admin list from the original server and if they still want their access i'd be happy to give it to them.

Well I guess thats it for the post, I wanted to see if everyone would want the server back and if so, i'd make arrangements (again) to make it happen. The server would be up when 3.0 comes out of course, both hosts are all Steam now. (blech!)

Try to keep the comments here to the topic and constructive ones, im not starting a flame post here... just a question

Happy Thanksgiving folks, have a good one!

For me, hearing "see you on Nano" has many of the same good connotations as "see you on Linuxmonster" or "see you on Ariadne." These servers practically become a living part of the community, and Nano-gridlock in particular has been immortalized in the "Boondock Marines" song and music video.

I'd love to see it back.

I learned to play NS on Nano-Gridlock. Went by the name of BadMath, don't know if you remember me but I remember you Iggy. That server was seriously full of talent and the Evolutionarily Challenged guys were the best.

Took a break from NS while waiting for 2.0 and my school to fix their network (Welchia is hell on old switches) but now I am back and I was wondering where NG was.

Definately bring it back, the best server I have ever played on in all my days of FPS'.

I mean what other server could actually get me to remember my login for this place?

dates are kinda fuzzy, but I know I played NS since they day it came out, and I played at NG whenever I could. (unless it was locked) So I think it's safe to say I played there from the public release of NS until nano-gridlock's death. No clan sponsorship please, and keep the same admins, they owned.

I tried NG once, after training in KIR....
it was loads of fun, it took skill to play there, and I would love to see it come back.
NGs had its server issues in the past, but hopefully we can move forward and have a great server back

Yes it'd be awesome to see it back.

Wonder if it'll ever be the same though, a lot of the old regs stopped playing NS or were severely alienated away from the server.

I use to play NG and only NG, because of the EC guys.
Than it died and I just followed LB to where ever he went with the server and thats how I ended up on the LunixMonster.

Technically Nano-Gridlock has turned into Lunixmonster.

It would be nice to see it back though.

Ahahah, Old Nano was the only damned Brit server I never lagged on. I'd love to see the true Nano back up again, even if I can't play it since it will be on Steam.

Edit: Okay Ven, for the love of God change your sig, that bandwidth error is **** me off, yeah.

I was the admin that took over with Pointblank when it was originally sponsored, then after it died Lightning Blue stepped in, but quit after getting complaints from people. I guess it was the pressure to live up to the previous server that amde him start another server. Lunixmonster is with the popular servers list as well.

I updated the original post to include a mention of EC which I left out due to personal reasons which ive just discussed with some EC members. I apologize for not including them, but again it was personal reasons they were'nt included in the original post (long story between me and them).

Thanks for the posts so far guys, happy with the respones.

Ok here is a thread regarding some of the wacky crazy stuff that went on, close to Nano-Gridlocks demise, oh god this was so funny

Hey I was in a few of the pics in that thread!
I miss Nano, but LunixMonster is very much like Nano was, not half as crazy, just its still home to me.

I can't wait till Nano comes back.

Igg - If you manage it, you've pulled it off better than I did.

There was at one point 3 Nano's, but Gridlock was always the most popular (largely I think due to it's playerbase being American) while the other two..... well, I've still got one (and I'd love to team up with Igg to make a EU/US approach if he was interested) and Wither had the other, but I dunno what happened there.
  • NessNess Join Date: 2002-12-17 Member: 10935Members, Reinforced - Onos
Wither's drove me insane with lag, yeah. Odd, since the servers were based in Texas, and I live in FL. Shock's I played on a bit, but unfortunately I didn't have the connection luck on a brit server that I had on old Nano.

I did not know lunixmonster was one of the heirs to nano. I would play there more often but last time I tried the player max was 16 and I never saw any of the famed regulars. Not to mention they have a questionable admin.

But I will definitely support Nano-Gridlock upon its return.
