Favourite Level Off All Time?
<div class="IPBDescription">And why</div> Post your favorite level from any game and what ever reason you have for choosing it.
My personally favorite is the 1st Russian mission from Call of Duty
Brilliant Atmosphere, all around Omaha-level beater.
Brilliant sound... gunfire all around you, people screaming and "The man with the rifle shoots. The man without the rifle follows. When the man with the rifle dies the man without the rifle picks up the rifle and shoots!"
Good scripting... like when your on the boat and getting shot at and someone dives out and they kill him... The part where your running from cover to cover etc
Best level ever <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Still, CoD is far from being my favourite game, so that isn't really may absolute favorite level. It's just a level I happen to like a lot.
Another level I loved was the prison escape in Deus Ex. The whole time I was trying to get out, I was trying to figure out where the heck I was. Turns out that I'm sitting under the UNATCO building. Suprise, suprise.
The quest in NWN that has you investigating a rather gruesome and demonic crime, and then having a sort of trial for it, is also a favourite of mine. It was just so inventive and well put together, and was one of the many cool little touches that made that game fun.
Alright, before everyone skewers me over a flaming pit, can you think of another level you played 10,000 times before you got bored of it?
I think not.
That's got to be the one in MOHAA with the invisible snipers that kill you with just 1 hit.
No you didn't. Anyway, my favorite "level" from any game is <b>ns_nancy</b> CanIGetAWhatWhat?
WOOOOP! Yeauh! Those were the days... BRING BACK NANCY! *protest*
I had to come back and edit this once I saw my post number... Kind of mandatory... but *holds up a beer and sings "THIS IS POST ONE THIRTY EIGHT! POST ONE THIRTY EIGHT, POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST ONE THIRTY EIGHT!"

The opening level to Unreal. It was just crammed full of gorgeous visuals and atmosphere, you don't even fight anyone, but it's nothing but coolness all round. *EDIT: It's a shame the rest of the game was crap.
Word. Could you ever kill that skaarj at the beginning, I use to shoot it every time I played the level, pretty much enough to kill it, I even cheated a few times and shot it wit the minigun. It bleeds, but I've never been able to kill it. I like the screams. "OH MY GOD! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
I think I became CWAG for a few minutes...I cried, because while we've all heard how bad it was for the Russians, you didn't really understand until you were "With Them" in the end, on top of the Berlin palace.
Okay, this game sounds incredibly moving, I must get it.
I'd say either E1M1 (DOOM), The Tanker (MGS2), Brinstar (Super Metroid), or Magmoor Caverns (Metroid Prime)
Yes, that definitely ranks up there for me. The visuals they packed into an SNES game are just awesome.
Hmm... I'd say another favorite of mine is the Condemned Building (Parts 1&2) from Max Payne 2. It was awesome to climb my way up the building to discover the evidence the cleaners left behind, and the next part was just so cool, trying to escape before it collapsed on me.
Also one of the first Night Elf levels from WC3:TFT was awesome. The one where you're the sole Warden trying to escape from the collapsing temple. It was kinda hard at the beginning, but once I learned to blink effectively, it was hella fun running from all those demons and pretty tense at times when I didn't have the mana to blink again.
Even on my old rig it still ran silky smooth.
Favourite older level would probably be something like Surface Tension in HL, but there are far too many to choose from.
The calm lands of final fantasy x as it was fun to run round on my chocobo and figthing monsters in the monster areana.
and the CIA level from Splintercell as it was the first time i got to use the FN which was fun, how you could enter from two sides and that it was fun because you weren't allowed to kill them.
Word, guy! This chapter is pure gold, and I hope Half-Life 2 has a comparative section <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Also, not so much a level, more a section: The street parts of RE3; I'm a sucker for the atmosphere and sheer scale of the outbreak.
An Apache on your tail firing missiles that are taking huge peices of the train, and grunts ahead packing enough ammo to blow a significant size hole in the countryside. Man, i love that mod

Linkage?
I would have to say..... gah. I have no idea.
*looks through game collection for inspiration*
Well if it's LEVEL then that honour would have to go to Starlancer, with the 1-on-1 battle with the Yamato against the Pukov.
"We got another wave of Sabers launching"
"Do they have a production line on there or something???"
Torpedo.
Bombings.
Pwn.
j00.
*edit* That, or the 2nd level of Medal of Honour AA where you have to run for the train. If you play it on hard and get the music to kick in at just the right time, it is trouser-explodingly good. I was tempted to say Ohama beach, but I played that so many times I can complete it with only the colt and on hard. *edit*
If it's just any generic bit, not just actual levels I would have to say the Dollet landing in FF8. Sure, the rest of the game wasn't great, but that cutscene.... aaaaah. I have started games just for the purpose of getting to that cutscene.
SkyRoad's second level. IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT I WOULD ALWAYS RUN OUT OF FUEL!
A notable second would be the escape from the sinking freighter in <b>No One Lives Forever</b>. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Same with Opposing Force later on. The chapter was called "Foxtrot Uniform". Superb mission. You and your men going up against the black ops and aliens.
I must have played more than 25,000 rounds on those maps <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Craziness.
2nd comes de_dust, with over 5,000 rounds.
3rd comes ns_origin, with over 500 games (hey, they're long <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
Donkey Kong Country: Mine cart level. That was just so darn fun. And mind you I was an Indiana Jones fan (and still am), so it fit the bill! The graphics, sound, and design was all astounding.
Although perhaps my hand-eye coordination just hasn't risen up above that of a two year old yet...
