I think he was just showing the lerk bite for people who've missed it and people who have never seen it.

    I know i did a little jump of joy when i was biting people as a lerk again <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

It increases your damage. Right now you can kill a marine with one bite. (note: due to change!)

Eggmac, care to explain what you mean "due to change"? Does that mean they're thinking about changing focus so you can't kill a marine in one hit as a skulk?

    [unsubstantiated rumors]
Nothing confirmed, but the other night, an admin came on and switched to a map I've never seen before. co_tasium I believe it was. It still doesn't work (All players booted to rr on game start), but it looked cool. So yes, I suspect more maps are still in the works. I've also heard rumors that the ns_nancy remake is going to be ready fairly soon.

"due to change" is probably meant to say "Subject to change(STC)".
The new ability(focus) doubles the damage of your first weapon, but halves the rate of attack. So you bite at half the speed, but can kill unupgraded marines in one bite.

This patch also stops turret farms for the most part. Electricity owns now too.

It seems very solid but for the most part no one is playing on the non-NS:Combat servers and when they do the games are small and the map hardly ever changes.

New lerk flight is sweet to say the least. Focus skuls own too. New maps are nice... would love to see them on large servers with ~30 players because they are huge.

I hope it goes live soon because the beta servers are laggy as heck and not played in much.

The reason for this has a lot to do with a bug that makes standard ns games increasingly laggy as time goes by, with the end of a long game being almost unplayable. Plus, of course, combat mode is new, and people like to try new things more than revised old things. Once the bug is squashed(I heard a rumor that it just was), and the novelty wears off, I'm sure plenty of people will be playing normal ns again. I know that I will be playing quite a bit of both after release, as they are both a lot of fun.

How "set in stone" is this experience and level up thing and do you keep your level if you die?

Experience is quite set in stone for combat mode, since it is the defining condition of combat mode, and it is not in normal ns. You keep all experience when you die. In the latest version(see new topic) both attacking the opponents base and healing yours gets you a small amount of experience, and killing an enemy or being near an ally who does gets you more. Experience based on healing might be temporary(I havn't tried it yet), but the other types seem to be working well.

What, exactly, is being justified? I suppose you are suggesting that combat mode is somehow wrong and in need of justification? Combat mode is fun. But after playing it for a while, I remember what makes NS so great, and go back to some good old strategic NS warfare. Both modes are very good. Both modes complement each other well, with combat being good for small numbers of players, and standard being good for large numbers of players. There is no need to "justify" combat mode, and I won't make excuses for it, since there is no need to do so. I was mearly pointing out that it is not a "treat" to NS, as some seem to think it may be.
The reason I don't play standard NS at the moment has to do with technical issues, which have apperently been solved in the latest version. When the servers are updated, and I can actually get into a standard NS game with less than 400+ ping, I will be playing both modes frequently. I am willing to bet that most people will be like me and play both modes. Some people will strongly prefer one over the other, and will only play one mode. Why do I care? Why should I want people to play a game they don't like as much? Why is it a problem if they make a game that is MORE fun for some people(For me, NS is more fun overall, but CO is more immediately gratifying) than the current one? I guess I just don't understand that line of thinking at all...

With cl_pithup and cl_pitchdown increased above 90 degrees, you could turn upwards further than directly up, meaning that you ended up flipping over. But the model still rotated as if you looked forward, meaning that you would have left and right inverted if you turned upside-down, which kind of makes it useless. This feature allows those of us who like walking upside-down to do so.

As for the beta servers being laggy - that's still one of the main bugs left to be fixed. It's not the servers fault.

With the cl_pitch feature put in, we can walk on ceilings now. You can already adjust which way turns which with some command. I think it's yaw. Not sure.

i dont know why it cant be 2.1x, i dont like 2.1r,... can we just skip to 3.0? because since 2.0 is crashing and asking for my cdkey every 15 seconds, i think another 2.fdafs version will do the same thing but maybe if we just rename 2.0 to 3.0 that will fix it
