Natural Selection 2 (using HL2 engine)
will NS be jumping over to HL2 using the new great game engine? or still gonna have to be forced to use HL1 to keep playing NS? just a question.

Flayra is undecided, as the port would be a bigger jump then NS 1.04 to 2.0, but as far as I'm concerned, if NS wants to survive, it'll need to. Once CS, DoD, and all that go to HL2, there's not going to be anyone left on HL1...

whats so noobish about that? what if someone really heard about it? or whatever? and since i heard the news that HL2 is gonna be delayed cause of some idiot who got ahold of the source code i stoped reading up on HL2. so if you idiots wanna flame, go ahead if it makes you feel special.

    Calm down Toker.

I personally think NS using the HL2 engine will be incredibly insane and would add alot to the atmopshere of an already good game.

But i think that NS might loose alot of regular NS players to the 'prettier' looking HL2 mods when they come out. I'm sure Flayra and his team have thought long and hard about this as well and will adjust accordingly.

I think someone has said that we are to assume that they won't be porting NS to any other engine unless it's officially announced. Kinda like the justice system in Canada (and maybe other places too) - people are assumed innocent unless proven guilty.

I am hoping that it will be ported. There are just so many pros about porting, one including the flame thrower will finally be possible, more weapons slots will exist (Meaning more lifeforms!), better atmosphere, physics, and finally, GRAPHICS.

And the whole interactivity of the game just rocks. You can blow open a wooden door with a shotgun, you can see the entry and exit wounds on enemies and yourself, that would just...god that would rock.

    Prolly gonna be gory though.

NS2 will probably be one of the best mods for the Source engine, the lighting will probably be the main point where NS2 will* kick but.

If Flayra doesnt want to port NS to Source, then im sure there are plenty of NS fans who would be more than willing to do it
  • Toker_WolfToker_Wolf Join Date: 2003-11-08 Member: 22388Members
if its real, its only being planned so even if they annouce it a few times after HL2 comes out, it wont be coming out till 2005 or 2006! (half life 3)

NS will still be available to HL1 players ofcaurse, but yea people will play NS for HL2 engine instead of HL1. why should people who work hard and throw their money on their system to upgrade their computer and buy HL2 suffer beause cheap people dont bother to upgrade their PC and or buy HL2. its the problem of players like me(us?). NS is so great and I love this game so much!! It would be a sin not to make NS using HL2 engine.

Well I guess NS for HL2 would loose many players because of high HW demands... It's many years since HL release and even now many people can't get decent FPS in NS..
I personaly look forward for HL2 but im willing to wait year or more to get PC to play it for decent price, im not going to rush for expensive high end PC because of it and i guess many people too.

still many ppl have yet to grasp that u dont need a decent system to run HL2. Valve have pretty much made the game so they aint gonner lost ppl over spec issues. Basicly they aint gonner lose ppl at all.

I wouldnt expect NS2 to just start going straight away i would say it will happen it be stupid not to but id bet my soul that they will have some sort of break.

NS took 20 months to make, by the time HL2 comes out, CS and DOD will already be released for it, so you will have to wait even longer...

can always just tone down the settings to run the game. Although I want to see HL2 at it's best! So I plan on purchasing a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro although I'm a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra worshiper. I will buy myself an FX in the future but I want to play HL2 at it's best quality!! I really hope that NS goes over to HL2 so I may drool over the "elite" gorge graphics

    NS on HL2

Can u actually think of what would be possible?

Smooth wall rotations, amazing animations of all the aliens who will be in INCREDIBLE detail and look scary as ****.

Structures would be SO much better.

    The comm interface would rock.

There would be an incomprehensable amount of detail and atmosphere that could be added, and so many more new functions.

If it was ever ported to HL2, NS, with a LOT of time and effort, would be one of the best games ever.

How long do you people think you're going to go without upgrading? Good god you should go into gaming KNOWING that you'll need to chip in for a major upgrade every two years. When I hear that people are whining about having 20 FPS in NS... GOD GET A JOB, SPEND SOME CASH!

I once read a blurb from Flayra on some website where he said he couldn't wait to get the HL2 engine, or something to that effect. I am absolutely sure that we will see something from Flayra and the crew on the HL2 engine. Whether or not they make another NS game on HL2 is debatable. I doubt it would be a simple port of the current NS game, more likely it would be a brand new NS game, built from the ground up. But given that the guy obviosuly loves to make games, we will see more Flay Games in the future, no doubt about it.

You're forgetting that the majority of gamers aren't of age to get a real job(that is paid well enough to consider actually workin on/in), and us who are, are too busy with the job/longer school days(whatever) to play much.

Im 100% sure that there will be a port. From what ive seen from HL2 its REALY easy to port a HL1 MOD to HL2, i think you just have to recompile the source, all models and maps. But apart from that you dont have much work.

OF COURSE it would look like HL1, but that would be the first version of NS on HL2, so that all fans keep playing. And then for the next version they could redo the models, and then the maps.. But its not that difficult from what ive seen to port the whole thing

This topic has been dragged up and down the road for far too often. The official lowdown:

Flayra is really interested in the Source engine and its capabilities.

These would however make a complete reconceptualization of NS necessary - Havoc alone is too big a potential to ignore, while any modification to incorporate realistic physics would necessarily affect the whole of the gameplay.

A HL2 port is thus, while not impossible, not planned at this point.

I'll give the thread two more posts, if no new points are raised, I'll lock it to keep frontpage-cluttering low.
