Most recently, I've found myself really LOVING the AquaNox2 soundtrack. It is truly awesome. I think it has some of the <a href='http://www.reflex-studio.com/music/aquanox2/feary_canyon.mp3' target='_blank'>BEST</a>. <a href='http://www.reflex-studio.com/music/aquanox2/mystery.mp3' target='_blank'>TRACKS</a>. <a href='http://www.reflex-studio.com/music/aquanox2/ordenssoeldner.mp3' target='_blank'>EVER</a>. The dark, murky ambience really comes through in it's tracks. (And then it has it's <a href='http://www.reflex-studio.com/music/aquanox2/fight_guit2.mp3' target='_blank'>battle music</a>.)

Other games with some awesome music that I loved would be Homeworld, Total Annihilation, No One Lives Forever 2, Command & Conquer, Deus Ex, Medal of Honor : Allied Assault, Descent, Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, and a few others which escape me at this time. Skies of Arcadia had good music, but it was in general too light or 'happy' for my tastes. My favorite tracks in the game where the Dark Rift, and the Maw of Tartas seal theme, of which I am highly reminded of in <a href='http://www.reflex-studio.com/music/aquanox2/feary_canyon.mp3' target='_blank'>this</a> track from AquaNox2.

I liked the Halo and FLCL (anime) soundtracks. And yeah, Yokko Kanno rocks my face.

Wow. I never expected to see you here. lol. But yeah, I'm a fan of your work. I liked the AN1 soundtrack too. Which reminds me, what are the Cloud of Terror lyrics? I've listened to that over and over trying to figure it out. lol

Good choice of thred to res!

Heh, I thought I was the only one who really liked game soundtracks.

    <b>Command & Conquer</b>
    <3 my C&C soundtrack CD <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
(as far as I'm concerned, the series began and ended with the first game. RIP, Westwood.)

    <b>Mechwarrior 2</b> and
    <b>Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries</b>
Different sound to original Mech 2 (more electric guitar, faster paced). Mechwarrior 2's soundtrack is better suited to vast open battlegrounds, Mercenaries' is better suited to heated urban combat (which is appropriate for both games).

To digress momentarily: while on a really, really long car trip through wide open countryside (including sand dunes) I was listening to the Mech2 soundtrack, and it was *really* wierd. It was like beng in the game.

    <b>Dungeon Keeper</b>
Dunno, some of the tracks are nice atmospheric music.

    <b>Quake II</b>
    r0x0rs! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

From time to time, I also listen to the Rise of the Triad soundtrack (despite the fact that that game scared the s*** out of me), Dune II soundtrack, Sam and Max, Warcraft II, Sacrifice, Wing Commander II. There's nothing special about the Dune II or Wing Commander II soundtracks, I just liked listening to them because they reminded me of the games (and I loved the games. That was before I got them working again.)

Used to listen to the Half-Life soundtrack.

I'm not quite sure why, but I made CDs of the Doom and Doom II soundtracks... they're actually pretty terrible music to just listen to. Maybe for background music they're ok, but I was listening to Doom II in the car the other day... bleh. Sooo repetitive.

I do have to acknowledge that the Total Annihiliation music is "good music", and while I do kind of like the songs (they become endearing after you hear them so often) I don't often specificaly listen to it.

By der vay, the Morrowind music was by Jeremy Soule, who also did Dungeon Siege and a few other game scores. He's got quite a reputation.

    DO NOT INSULT FINAL FANTSY!!! <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->

Final Fantasy definatly has the best soundtacks for any game. MGS2 also has excellent musics, as well as Kessen.

I don't get what's so great about the FFVII sound track. To me it sounded very much like mediocre MIDI-neoclassical with nothing even remotely interesting in it.

    What I would recommend:
Mechwarrior 2 - This stuff is pure gold.
Alone in the Dark 1 - Pure gold also. Spooky, odd, amusing, beautiful. An all in one package.
    American McGee's Alice
    Nemesis the Warlock (C64)

TETRIS! I can't believe no one mentioned tetris yet... there's no one who doesn't know the tetris song -- it was even in an episode of the simpsons...

Yeah, I have to agree, I was really impressed with the soundtracks for those games too.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocense has a really, really cool soundtrack. I gotta find it somewhere.

And other games where the whole score rocks:

    Metroid Prime
    Wind Waker
    Zelda 64
    Metal Gear Solid
    Metal Gear Solid 2
    Mario Sunshine

And there's hundreds of others that have great songs that deserve to be mentioned, but can't be because my lunch hour is almost up. :P

    @fina

    > what are the Cloud of Terror lyrics? I've listened to that over and over trying to figure it out. lol

check this, i think there it is 8)

Aqua is a yelling hell (Refrain :-))

    Special forces are behind us,
    just leaving liquid shadows
Shrinking shrinks cut off my past
Captain Fiend blasts off a million
sucker-souls into a blaze of nothing
    Down at Atacama-Town Mrs Brown
gets me free some dope-a-cola and a grin flashes
Her eyes behind a veil of lightwater
Aqua is a yelling hell (I went deep)
Aqua is a yelling hell (I went deep)
Aqua is a yelling hell (I went deep)
I went deep, deeper into deepest water,
went down down into fathomless slaughter
There's a blue reason beyond each freaking
veil of maybe, showing fight, I'm showing fight:
Look at me, I'm showing fight, damned
    hell-of-a-bloody-whimp, I'll show ya hell,
I'll let loose hell There's nothing you can
do but bite the bullet (Look at me)
See my world deep, deeper, deepest just
leaving liquid shadows (Look at me)
I went deep, deeper into deepest water,
went down down into fathomless slaughter
Eyes behind a veil of fear(I went deep)
Eyes behind a veil of fear(I went deep)
Eyes behind a veil of fear(I went deep)
I went deep, deeper into deepest desparation
turned my boat to cut-throat-docks (Look at me)
Salvation whacked by wicked weirdos ... I went deep...
Aqua is a yelling hell (I went deep)
Aqua is a yelling hell (I went deep)
Aqua is a yelling hell (I went deep)
' Bunch of shrinks in Satan's kitchen, slobbing
    over my Satan-soul, piping-hot,
    That pitch-black pitty plague of-a-****
Eyes behind a veil of fear(I went deep)
Eyes behind a veil of fear(I went deep)
Eyes behind a veil of fear(I went deep)
    (Look at me)

Cool, that's the lyrics to the Yelling Hell track. The one I'm thinking of is <a href='http://www.reflex-studio.com/music/aquanox/cloud_of_terror.mp3' target='_blank'>this one</a>. I'm just guessing at the names from the site. lol
