It wasn't to annoy anybody. It was to catch some attention, because many of the people from Savage are flaming, with no reason to flame, while the NS guys aren't, quite frankly. And to get Johnny to come back.

I've played games for a long time. When I first tried NS, I was sucked in and I've been happy with it ever since. I tried out savage and I have played it for a few hours and I hardly consider it ground breaking. The fact that a player has almost no contact with the commander kind of turns me off. Savage would be better if the upgraded classes weren't the same thing with more health or the weapons weren't the same thing but shoots faster or does more damage. I may seem kind of biased here, and I more than likely am but thats just the way I see it.
Someone should photoshop up a pic of hundreds of savage bodies flyin..... and stick an onos in the middle of it all, and make the quote
NS is better than SAVAGE...
we could make a whole series of these pics....
Make like 10 HA grenading the "stronghold" pics and stuff.....
lol

All in all savage is not bad, however it does NOt feel like an RTS to me in the least.... go figure since the company boasts its the first of its kind...
Guys, not this : Remember the time when we had Desert Combat fanboys come hurl insults on NS forums, and vice versa, don't do that. Grow up, no one should make any posts on their forums that NS is better, you can tell them in the appropriate forum/thread what you like about NS, but don't tell them off about Savage.
yea...I registered for the betatest as junkyardcat months ago hoping to get my hands on a demo, but it never came . Without any hands on knowledge all I can say is the graphics looks pretty sweet. But I just don't get how dumb and arrogant some of these people are...even some of the staff members seems childish to me (dissing the fanbois, not the game).
oh...the demo is out, I guess I'll go download it
just played 1.7 games of Savage (yes I have the full version) human vs. beast I was beast both times
first game I was comm, won. I always alerted on my team, it was hard to even get them to acknowledge my existence, they only spoke when they wanted something, they never cared even to alert the team of happenings. Chat is rarely ever used, they just go off and do stuff, if it happens to be together so be it.
Second game, I didn't comm The commander never said a single thing. He had a long period of opportunity to secure a nearby spawn point and put some real pressure on the enemy base, instead he turtled while some of us tried to damage the base a little, couldn't do much. He didn't give orders, relay information, anything. I left when the base started getting torn up.
They might have made an FPS RTS, but not an RTSS. One guy does one thing, everyone else does other stuff. It's two games stuck on the same map almost.
Although I haven't played the game yet (still downloading), lets not bash it until you fully understand the mechanics of the game. I've read a good deal of stuff in the s2forums months ago and I was told that there was reward points for players who listen to the commander or follow commander's waypoints/instructions.
Sure, to you it might feel like people will do whatever they want to, but that is the same thing in the beginning of ns. newb marines will go anyway they wish and will ignore their commanders, as long as theres an ip and an armory, the marines are semi independent. Lets play it through and not make rash judgements just because you played in games where the newb players knows nothing about organization and thats why your base got tore up. You'll get this type of game anyday in ns pubs anyway.
I'm not trying to defend savage, I'm just keeping it objective.
please understand I've played more than 1.7 games. Thats just what I had played today. I enjoy the game, but most of the time... meh. that's what happens. If you do get a team that listens, it's a real blast to play.
Half the problem (well, teamplay wise) is that the comm doesn't hand out the weapons like in NS; they just research it and stick up buildings and thanks to the AI workers they don't even need the players to do the building or non-combat stuff either. Meanwhile the players only really need the comm to research stuff so they can buy it when they want it or sometimes ask for the comm to buy something for them when they're short of cash. In the meantime it's like a shallow RPG =3
It's fun when you're not in the mood for something serious but the sexual assaulter is right; You don't need massive cooperation between comm and players to win; at least nowhere near the levels required in NS
Having only played the demo, but played it far too much, I can still clear up a few points.
The human team _is very dependant on a decent commander. A bad one can hose over the team every bit as badly as a bad marine commander. Failure to get the buildings up as needed, get the research done, get the _right research for the situation, these can hose a team.
There _can be quite a bit of interaction between the team and the commander, but most players don't understand how to. Simple things like the commander giving warning about enemys, tagging them (which eases the targeting of indirect weapons like the catapult), and more interesting things like bestowing a temporary boosting of speed or damage. There is a third boost, but I haven't commanded (NS burned out any inclination I have for commanding on a pub) and so I don't know it. Having an enemy commander boost people you are dancing with is just as annoying as medspam : )
But, its the pubs, what did you expect? People communicating? Nah. They can't even use the very easy to use GUI communication menu. I try, and mostly fail, to get the commander to use 'v 5 8' instead of typing out things like 'HELP ME' as our base is overrun... sigh. At least Savage doesn't have the dread NS disease, IhaveamicsoIcan'treadteamchatanymoreandI'mthecommanderitis.
Its an interesting game, the netcode is _not up to NS standards, and that gets a bit annoying at times (NS spoiled me that way). And, as I maintained in the NS thread on the Savage forum, the game is not what its devotees are claiming it to be, and they are only hurting their game by trying to insist it is. Genre defining my ****.
For all that, its the FPS I'm playing now, the NS pubs have been a constant source of annoyance, and I'm not playing a game to be constantly annoyed and **** off. I'd try Planetside, but I have this problem with giving money to SOE.
sorry to go a bit off topic but... ~pokes Lt.Warhound with a stick~ have we met before? o.O I used to change my names all the times but I visited lots of forums and stuff from Neocron to RO to PSO to... well you get the idea and your name just rings bells. Maybe it was another Lt.Warhound but I dunno
As for Savage, my main problem with it is definitely the netcode; you'd think they could at least make the AI creatures run smoothly but I've been chomped several times by sideways teleporting monsters and shooting can be a nightmare sometimes >< I love helping with buildings and stuff like that so I sometimes get special attention from some of the more talkative comms for helping out so much
Been using Lt.Warhound or LTWarhound (some places don't handle punctuation in names) for about 8? 10? years. Seen one person using just 'Warhound' as a handle but no other Lt, just me.
Neocron, you might have seen me on those forums, I was there at the tail end of the beta. Interesting game, I wouldn't touch it now, the players have ruined it. No RO or PSO through. Jumpgate, here, many other places.
Savage forums, haven't been there long, its the usual mix of fanboi and new players, with a more fanboish set of mods than even here. Typical lousy signal to noise ratio, at least here you can get solid info on the game, one of the nicer points about NS.
I was Amy on Neocron, I got a lot of people running up to me ingame after I wrote a short story 'Monochrome' for a giggle on the official boards along with a few other things =D
But I haven't played it yet so I can't say that it's a good/bad game. I'm off to get the demo but there is no way I'm going to buy the game itself. The mods act like forum bots, coming up and dissing any other game that is brought up, while saying that they created a genre and making their Silverback Engine (which might be ripped off of Quake III) seem like a god. That is not a community I want to get involved in.
Most mods on boards are either people who were responsible for the game in someway which would make them defensive, or more often than not, they're picked from the current batch of forumers because whoever's in charge decided they have the skills needed to keep things under control without abusing their newfound powers or letting it go to their head. Net result is most forum mods tend to favour the game they're on otherwise they'd never be at the board in the first place or they'd be too busy posting flame threads about how it all sucks so bad and blahblahblah lol ^^
Best Mod system I've seen to date that encouraged responsibility and neutrality was actually on the Neocron boards funnily enough. They're pretty careful who they pick at the start (Thor, the master mod, is a pretty cool guy but very serious about his unfortunately unpaid job =3 ). After that (and what I'm about to tell you is never actually revealed to the people on the board) they're made a new 'Copbot' account with a name of their choice from the Greek Gods. Because they use an entirely seperate account with rules on keeping your language and habits in check so nobody can realise it's you the net result is a somewhat stern and enigmatic but fair police force on the board. It certainly relieves the poor mods of having to watch their normal non-mod posts because as a figure of authority on boards people watch what you say closely =s

I'm sorry to bump this back up, but it this really makes me mad. I have played NS for over 5 months, and then I found Savage. I know how NS is played, I know how the comming is and the such. But it just makes me that, that you guys decide to prance on over the the Savage forums when we haven't said anything about NS that was horrible. But you guys decide to dis savage in every way. You like to diss on our players, and developers. While most of you are don't have room to speak about being immature.
Now onto the games.
NS --- 2001 Halloween NS was released, I was watching for feedback on this game before I decided to download it. Anyways, my internet service decided to die on me for about one year. Anyways, about one year later I decided to check on the game when I got a new one. And I see that it is going well and decide to download it and play. I fall in love with the game and it's versatility, and how unique the two races are and how the commander plays a huge roll in telling the units what to do.
Then later, when I was playing some warcraft 3 my friend told me about savage, I read up on it decided to wait for a demo [This was about 2 months before the game even released.] Anyways, I kept playing NS and was still in love with it.
I didn't think I would start to comm but I decided to try it. It was hard, much harder then I expected, and the communication required between the comm and his soliders is HIGH if they wish to win. Alas making NS feel much more like an rts. I enjoyed it so much, I unistalled my warcraft 3. This game was so awesome as the commander, it felt like I was really playing a rts with units that had feelings, and told you stuff.
Then steam came and I stopped playing for a bit. And decided to wait for the savage demo. And I really commend the maker of NS for doing what they did with the HL engine. What they did would be impossible for any normal person, they had patience and were determined to make an awesome game, and they did.
Savage --- The demo was released, and I started to play it. I'm not gonna talk about the demo because theres not much to talk about.
Onto the full game, first off I feel like talking about how good this game looks. For one, the day and night cycle is awesome, alas giving the beast more strategy with one of their items [Mist Shroud]. The sun glare is just beautiful, the shrubbery looks nice although it could look better. The grass looks great and how it sways in the wind is just awesome. The player models are decent, nothing to truly brag about. But the map designs are very nice and have a peacecful feeling.
The sound, all I can say is great composition to whoever did it.
Now, the gameplay in fps. Wow, it feels awesome to be able to gun down 5 beasts before you die as a human [just like it would in NS]. The guns arent as unique as I would want them to be but I have a feeling they'll fix that in time. The games fps perspective is great in my opinion, maybe I just like the quake feel to it compared to NS's 5-30 shot kills with guns. [Varries on units]
The melee combat I just love, first off I'd like to thank NS for helping me with it. But I also like the third person perspective of the melee combat, and how more tactical it is with block and leap.it gives an extra feel to the melee combay and makes it much more fun to me.
The commanding aspect definetly doesnt feel as deep as NS for sure, but the fps makes up for it.
I can't talk about the community or much more because the game was jsut released. But I commend s2 for making such a great game, and building an engine from scratch. Now please guys, don't go in the Savage forums flaming us and saying Savage is a ns ripoff. Also on a side note, Savage is a clan game, it's not made for pubbing
