I have played Savage. The graphics are so-so, better than NS of course. It may be my ping, but monsters seem to charge at me, and then all of a sudden warp behind me. I was impressed, but not <i>stunned</i>. I think NS takes a more active part in the community and the like. We always know what's going on, which build is coming next, what's likely to be in it, etc.
I don't know much about Savage, but from first glance, I say I like NS better.

Yay, now, instead of a Nomad, you can be a Legionnaire! Instead of killing the Oschores in two hits, it's now [i]one[i/]!
Yay, now, instead of a Skulk, you can be an Onos! Instead of killing the Marines in two hits, you can now EAT them, STUN them, Charge through them, or kill them regularly!

I would like to know which classes do what and how they are different. I didn't notice much except for the fact that I was weilding a huge axe, which was, I admit, pretty damned cool.

I have both and I like NS much better, for a number of reasons that I won't get into right now... Some of the S2 employees on that forums say absolutely outrageous things which I can't imagine are accomplishing anything but alienating some of their playerbase, and I wish they knew how to act a little bit more professional. It's understandable that they have a blatant Savage bias, but is it really necessary to put other games down and basically call Savage superior to anything that's ever been done in the genre(that is, when they admit that the genre has been done)? They try to stick to the argument that Savage is the first real FPS/RTS game when that is blatantly untrue, and when pressured on it they often change their argument to something like "Well it's the first game with an engine designed entirely for the FPS/RTS, the <u>Silverback Engine!!!!!</u>"

It's just obnoxious, one of the reasons why I never go to that forum anymore.

<i>Or would that just be prompting conflict? :/</i>

Next thing we know, we're facing open war with the Savage community and have open field battles with people in makeshift Fade suits vs. wooden Behemoth wagons.

    <i>S2Rocky from the thread:</i>
<i>So really, NS doesn't compare to SAVAGE. NS is simply a FPS Half-Life Mod with only 1 person having limited command abilities and SAVAGE offers both teams the authority to strengthen their tribe with a plethora of structures, weapons, and units as well as the power to dictate advanced tactics for the team to win.</i>

This is the single part that made my eyes turn blood-red. That's basically "NS is nothing special and it suxx0rz, while SAVAGE offers this and this and this and r0xx0rz." I can't begin to describe how much I hate text like that, and I'm not even going to try since I just can't write anything smart - even less so in English, since it isn't my first language.

Avenelle's post were excellent. I've been of the same mind for quite some time, but he put it better than I ever could.

On the subject of savage, I haven't really tried it. It'd probably kill my computer and my plate seems to be full as is. It does look interesting though, if I get some free time this weekend I'll probably try out the demo.

Meh, I beta tested Savage and I didnt want to say this before but I think its just your standard pos. The "commanders" are really worthless becuase they dont actually control the team in any way. All they do is select what upgrades the team has, and when. MAYBE if he's lucky his team _might_ do something for him like get another gold mine. There is no mic support is Savage - that's a major blow to "teamplay" right there - and the different classes all boil down to running up and just using melee. *yawn*

i saw the forums and some screenshots from savage, savage looks like a good game, since i have a crappy internet connection i wont bother in dling it since i wont play properly. Even though its engine was especifically designed for it without voice comm its gonna be too difficult to make an organized assault.

Wow. Making an engine better than a 5 year old engine based on an 8 year old engine?

    Impossible. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

What difference does it make, the engine it's on? Graphics? I could give two poops about extreamlly good graphics.

For gameplay possibilites, the engine does make a huge difference though, but I fail to see the relevence anyways about this engine buisiness.

You are basically saying that just because Savage uses the Silverback engine, it helps to make it a better game...

This is a crap argument. I don't care about the engine, all I care about is the game itself.

Why do you like Savage more than NS Commie? 10 bucks you will get bored of Savage faster than you ever did with 2.0.

One thing that wouldn't be a problem if NS had been developed on it's own engine is the hitboxes ^~
Might not make it a better game, but it makes it more polished.

Savage is ok, NS is ok... but Bomberman rules everything from on high so there <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    yay again you misread me.

OK.... You can't compare NS to Savage for these reasons

1.)Gameplay is totally different(try it if you don't want to listen/believe me)
2.)NS is a MODIFICATION....its not an idependant game, although it does a good job at looking like something independant
3.)Balance. Savage just works well for random server public games. NS Requires a clan, requires regulars, etc etc etc..(dont say thats not true. otherwise people wouldn't say "Oh if ns isnt fun join a clan, be a regular, etc")

they are both so different its ridiculous........IMO even comparing an corridor-fps to outdoor fps is differen't enough as it is.....both have different atmospheres and call for different weapon types, etc.

then compare a outdoor-rts/fps with a corridor -rts/fps? We're talkin apples and oranges folks.

the funny thing is that even though the movement in NS is much faster (skulks/lerks/freaking blink fades) savage has literally improved both my aim AND my ability to melee with a skulk......fast movements no longer SCREW with my sense of direction due to having to be so damn cautious when using ranged weps in sav (easy to get snuck up on)......I rarely get confused in NS like I used to when skulking (where did the marine go?)

Was kinda funny coming into the demo sav server for the first time as a newb (b4 I bought it) and completely owning all the other newbies in melee *cough, skulkage, cough*

With that said there will ALWAYS BE GAME BIAS. If you think its just the sav players just look at this thread. heh.

    Hats off to:
Charlie for doing the impossible- taking the HL engine and turning it into NS
    and to:
Sammy for writing the silverback engine.

NS is a kick arse game, been playing it longer then Savage.

Savage is a kick arse game, been playing it since pre-beta.

In the savage forums, im now known as s2James. My post (on the second page of that perticular thread) was a statement at one of the differences (we're all in agreement that theres many, right?) between the 2 games. If anyone thought I was trying to bash NS that was never my intention and Im sorry if I didnt make that clear.

I was quite suprised by how much support there was for NS in the Savage fanbase. I thought that thread was just going to be an anti-NS flamewar with only a few, outspoken supporters of NS. I guess it goes to show that both games really <b>are</b> decent. Now, given that I haven't played Savage yet, I need to go get the demo.
