Res Hording

It happened again last night. *sigh*

We only had one hive and a couple of DCs up, and were struggling a little. It wasn't a hopeless situation, as the other two hives were still free. Res was coming in very slowly, but I knew that as soon as a couple more RTs were built we'd be able to make a comeback.

So what happens? Somebody has been hording his res and evolves to Fade, only to die shortly after. What a waste. Could've built a hive or some RTs or chambers with that amount. Nobody else had enough res to do anything, and it wasn't long before the marines rushed our hive and slaughtered us.

Please, people, think of the hive first. If you want to save up for a higher lifeform, make sure the hive and res flow is catered for first.

Yeah, we all know this, and they never listen. We can only hope that they will go to NS:C when it comes out, or even better, CS. Sure a good fade early on can win you the game, but we all know what cones next. I'll focus on the word good, and that how people who only get a few swipe kills should place down RTs, and how alien teamwork is now going down just as marines are working together and winning most games against the disorganised aliens.

Stock response #1 then. Serious voice now.

It happens too much now and people are coming oblivious to it, just ignoring it. DON'T IGNORE IT. That's just as bad as doing it yourself. If they are new to the game, politely explian to them how it would have been better to put up 3 RTs or a hive. If they aren't new then they should know better.

I agree unless you ABSOLUTELY KNOW that the fade is unbelievable then you could give him a chance because one fade can delay an attack on ur hive for a good 2 min. if he knows what he is doin and really harasses the mariens....but if ur not a fade who is unbelievable then never horde!!

pld 2 games in a row like this last night, only 2 peeps went gorge and capped everyone else horeded their res and aliens lost bad. the very next game its exactly the same teams and they all did it again!. couldnt beleive it especially wehn i tried to explain to them that if they had capped res in the start they would have gotten to their oh so precious 100 res for onos quicker, but no they didnt wanna listen.

the game after those 2 most of the alien team were the same again. i capped every single node in this game and we had 7 every one else horeded cant tell you how long that took! ><

If you dont have at least 5 res nodes as alien you need to cap some before going fade, drop a res at the beginning then save for fade, you'll still be going fade around 5-6 instead of 3 min, but your entire team will benefit before that. If there is already one fade put up the damn hive, unless this is a strat that you have discussed with your team.

i always put the team 1st and put up a hive (i always get criticized for doing it and feel that my 50 res got wasted until a gorge gang waltzes in and bilebombs the crap out of the rine base). sumtimes im the only 1 who puts up hives and chambers but my "elite" skilles with teh skulky make up for it with tons of rfk Note that i only play on pubs cause no1 invites me to matches (i feel rejected) now if by any chance sum dude is better than me and puts up hive 1st i will go lerk (i suk with fade)

If the marine team doesn't know what it is doing, then it doesn't really matter what you do. You can horde your resources, or gorge, or do whatever you want - it doesn't matter because you will win anyway.

However, if the marine team does have its act together, then you have a dilemma on your hands if you simply look at it in terms of resource hording. Fades are necessary to deny marines of resources and positional advantages. In addition, fades defend the hive and other friendly units from attacks. That is 50 resources that you could either cash in for such a unit or put down a whole bunch of resources or a hive that could easily be torn up by a skilled marine team. Skulks don't cut it, unfortunately, when the enemy has a significant amount of skill.

If you think about it enough, you will come to the same conclusion that has been reached dozens of times in similar discussions. It consists of two parts. One part declares that players that have the skill should go fade while those that lack skill should avoid it until the game is secure, instead capturing hives and resource nozzles. The second part states that, in the event that most of the team has considerable skill, individuals should know their roles.

Now the problems become plain and obvious. One is stupidity - the inability of players to apply appropriate changes in response to changing conditions. Some are ignorant, others are agnostic. The second problem is the presence of choice - these are individual resources that we're talking about here. People think differently and thus behave in their own ways. Third is a well-known statement that plans usually do not work out exactly as they are supposed to. There are more, but from these three you can already get the point - the grim reality of it all.

In the begining of the game as aliens, I'll say I'll save for the second hive. It wasn't until recently that people would say try and get RTs instead of another hive, but this also goes to the point that marines are working together better and making stronger moves on the alien RTs. Truth be told, I always res ****, just that by the time I'm able to drop some RTs or the second hive, I've skulked for long enough to gain about 60-70 res from RFK. Mainly because by then, most of the team has gorged.

i said this once and ill say it again...atleast one res **** is needed in a game......but the res **** has a responsibility to protect the rts and structures.........

the res whoring i like is a quick fade, 4 to 5 mins in game, to prevent marines from expanding or a quick onos, usually 9 to 10 mins in game, who will win the game for u......

the res whoring i dont like is a skulk sitting at the hive, waiting on res for a higher upgrade

Res hording, regardless of "omg dudz0r I was saving f0r fad3!!!oneoneleven", is still dumb and foolish.

People who are hoarding for fade, for the TEAM benefit, will ALWAYS let the team know first. Otherwise you get 5 smacktards hoarding for fade "c0z w3 n33d 0n3 d00dz!!!". No, we don't need five people hoarding for fade, we need ONE person who'll tell the team thats what he plans to do.

Yeah I always save up for hives, I used to try saving up for better evolutions, but I suck with a fade so i stopped doing that. Sure, I could be like all you res **** out there and get better at fade by making my team lose, but I play Ns because I want to have a good time. I like for BOTH teams to have a good time when I play, and that means not being lame and dragging a game out when we have clearly won. I hate playing as marines with the same people who **** for onos every game, because we all know if we don't win the game by the 10 or 11 minute mark, guess who shows up as usual. We can only hope these retards will learn to communicate with their team better, and let them know if they plan to hoard. It's funny because these same people are the ones screaming into their mics like little school girls, wondering why the team is losing. Lets just hope they learn what the point of NS is, teamwork, not to mention a good time... for BOTH teams.

I put the team first on pubs and always go fade.

I help them much more by doing this.

Res Hoarding is an inapproate term in my oppinion. It should be called just plain old wasting your res as an alien player.

as j3k said, there should always be 1-2 ppl res hording. Ive seen many games where people have been afraid to fade or onos, in fright of being called res wh0res... we had no onoii, or fades when the marine assult came so we lost . Even after the match, where game is won by a good early onos and/or fade combo, the marines taunt onii/fades as res wh0res.

There is a fine line between a res wh0re and a contributer.. but one should always ask the team if res is needed somewhere else more urgently. However if you just plain suck, avoid wh0ring and help the team with ur res.

And as I've said, no self respecting team player hoards his res. He clears it with the team - other people say they're hoarding for hive, or hoarding for chambers, and he shouts out he's going for onos/fade. Now, if noone shouts out hive, then he should offer to hive when he hits that 50 res.

Otherwise you get several people hoarding, and as a result aliens lose the game because noone is actually building things.

I know the benefit of the early fade and onos, but the fact is that if noone opens their mouth to communicate, the team is doomed.

I totally agree with you here - I just wanted to hammer the point home for the skimreaders

Of course, if you are planning to fade, and you have reached the 50res mark, and you notice there is only one hive up, or only 1 chamber of a type up, or too few res towers, you should always contribute to this. You will have a much stronger fade/onos when you do go them, if you contribute this instead of blinking around wondering why noones building those dcs.

most eveyone should at lest build a rt. i hate haveing to drop all the upgrade chambers and 2 hives, sometimes 3 (on top of the 2 rt i drop at the start) when blocking some key areas would have pevented the loss of 1 or more hives. personaly im amazed when we win thouse games.

2 people should save their rez but the rest need to help build at some point. otherwise the mariens will have to ez a time getting aroud the map forceing the team to spread out trying to defend the rt.

you are saposed to push and fight not defend. if you end up defending the game is probably lost
