No Obedience!

Why nobody follows orders from the CC?
While playing NS the other day, I got to thinking. Why does nobody ever obey the commander's orders? No wonder he won't give you weapons and armor, come on people. Then again, sometimes you have a reason not to obey orders (if the orders are just plain dumb and won't help at all, what reason is there to follow them?), but nobody follows orders anyway. Let me know what you think on this topic (as it is my first post hehe).

Wait you mean VC? What if they don't use voice comm...
Problem solved yet again.

Wow, did not know that at all. Guess I just didn't notice!
anywho, its still bad having marines waiting at base for weapons that wont come.
heh, just now i thought of a small punishment. We can let comm's turn off marines ability to pick up weapons/ammo/health. Sure, they can rambo, they just wont get the comm's support...completely locked away, actually

I'm not sure about that. It's punishment enough to have the Commander just ignore that person the ENTIRE game. What fun is it just sitting in base while everybody else is moving out and having fun?
Again, problem solved.
Works amazingly well. At the very least they get fed up and leave
Unless, however, you're playing the demo, then 1% are listening to the commander.

LOL! Too true. Its still a fun game, I think I'm going to buy the full game. I'll still prefer NS, mainly for the fact that there is Voicecomm. Try commanding 20 people with only text
I actually tried to do that, but I cant seem to get it right. Its just pick solder then right-click solder, right? Im going to test it out on bots
1. yell in voice comm: "QUICK GET TO XXXXX, THERE IS 3 HA/HMG THERE, but you HAVE TO HURRY, there are 3 eggs gestating into onos in there!!!!
2. Click the select all marines button.... click repeatedly ALL over the room you want them to go to... the annoying voice telling them to get to waypoint XXX REPEATEDLY will annoy the crap out of them until eventually they just go.
3. Single them out... be like XXXX, everyone has a shottie/ha but you because you dont listen.. GO HERE QUICK.. and as soon as i can ill get you some heavy armor and a gun of your choice.
4. tell the marines to go anywhere but the place you actually want them to go to..... and they will flock like cattle to the right place...
However the best way imho is to recycle the armory, then they have to rely on you, hence if they arent doin what u want, you dont give em ammo, and they die.... they will HATE YOU for this, but you will get stuff done.
Can u tell i comm on pubs ALL the time??
~Jason
Must admit i've done that about 2-3 times. One time the guy left the server. He never did realise i recycled the phasegate next to the armoury. Oh well.
marines on the steam servers are some of the best, while the aliens dont even talk to each other, so usually i see about 75% marine wins
That said players listen somewhat better than in NS, for a number of reasons. First of all it's very hard to do anything against an enemy base on your own because towers will kick the crap out of you, and units will tear apart your siege unit. Also the often long walk to the enemy base and the reliance on your own money discourages people from throwing their lives away. It's not as much that everyone listens very hard to what the comm says, but they often do what the comm wants anyway just by following groups of people around. People who just rambo will get very tired of that game very quickly, moreso than with NS.
The reason: HE IS THE COMMANDER. YOU FOLLOW HIS ORDERS. PERIOD. If your commander tells you to jump off a cliff, you butt had better be halfway down before he's done talking. It doesn't matter if the order seems stupid to you, the commander has acces to information beyond what a grunt has. When he told you to jump off the cliff, he needs you rear end back in base faster than you could walk there, and nevermind your equipment. He could see that an alien force is coming, and he needs you back to base NOW. To get the turrets up. That will kill the alien force. And tilt the game to the Marine's favor. Which won't happen if you don't die and respawn back in base. SO WHY THE **** AREN'T YOU JUMPING OFF THE CLIFF ALREADY?
the commslap plugin works great. we have it on our server:
<shameless plug> [nc] No Chumps Server v2.01 67.108.32.10:27015 </shameless plug>
all you do as comm is select a marine, type "/commslap" and hilarity ensues.
edit: just wanted to give credit where it's due, i believe clamatius is the author of this wonderful plugin.
Oh sure it stops their idiotic words from flooding YOUR screen but not the other 14 people on the server as they dont know how,or wont, mute.
I muted people for being idiots and whining for items. What happened? They went around to all local servers repeatedly complaining about how my comming suck because i didnt give the stuff they wanted(of course they made up some completely fictional things that they cant prove, but people believed them anyway, dont ask me why).Progressed to the point where they made a hate club on a message board(ironic that one of the message board rules said "No flaming allowed" and the mods participated in the flaming).
Of course since this is due to my absolutely **** community who has mass herd syndrome...muting will most likely work on your servers.
Now heres a list of excuses ive heard for not obeying the comm's orders :
1.If the comm give orders, hes a control freak and i dont obey control freaks!
2.I dont want to
3.Comm didnt give me items
4.I no speak english!
5.Its just a game, its only a game and since its only a game i dont have to obey orders
6.I want more frags
7.I dont know how to obey orders
8.Because the comm sucks/is ****/is a transexual/was sexually abused as a child
9.I think the comm is ugly
10.The comm should stop being lazy, get out of the chair and do it himself!
11.Who does the comm think he is to give ME,the ruler of the omni-universe ORDERS?!
Of course thats only the most common ones.I once had a crackpot insist that i didnt give him orders,so he wasnt following them.
A couple went (with welders) to cargo went I don't know where. One went ahead to biodome forgetting his welder at base. So then there's me and this other guy (shotty/welders) who actually followed the comm's orders. And the guy never welded. He yelled like a baby to get armor repaired but never even GOT OUT his welder.
If you want to know what happenned to the guy trying to ask for a GL, he dropped his weapons and came to biodome, knifing stuff around. (in HA)
We lost, even if we had such an advantage... I mean we were 6 HA's level 3/3! We had almost all the map (though their oni killed a lot of rts when we attacked them at bio)
"Right. Anyone who is not following orders will not get any medpacks."
You'd be amazed at how effective it is. After all, why should you waste resources on someone who isn't following your orders? When some idiot rambo who's run off by themself and run into a WoL you've deliberately avoided whines for a medpack, he can bloody well fend for himself.
Note that this is somewhat discretionary. There is a difference between a "rambo" and a "special forces". A rambo runs off by himself trying to get kills. A special forces gets himself deep into enemy territory and in a good position for you to set up forward bases.
Oh, and you have to tell people that the rule is going to be in effect. If you simply don't hand out medpacks without having explained why you're just going to annoy people.

I wouldn't mind if comm didn't happen to give me equipment.
