I follow the comm's orders so long as they don't smack of idiocy, or if the comm isn't an abusive jerkoff. I don't paticularly appreciate getting ranted at and being called a nub/n00b/what-have-you just because I can't take on 3+ skulks while trying to build an RT without anyone else there for backup.

I usually follow all comms orders and end up in the top half of the marine scoreboard for my killing efficiency, I'm nice, I thank the comm if they ever bother to med/ammo me and I never ask for an item... yet when it comes to getting equipment I'm always the last o.O
Is it just bad comming on their part or does actually having a giggle, talking and having fun instead of screaming for a shotgun honestly make them think I'm incompetent? ><

Yeah it's funny having a dumb team, I used to be a decent comm but I got sick of it on most servers as the team did squat. It really annoys you when you're doing the best for your team and they throw it back in your face, asking for shotguns and HMG's when you have 3 resources left.
NSPlayer (base): Need ammo! Ricky: There's an armoury behind you, numb nuts!
I havent commanded in 2.0 much, but in the 1.X versions I was my clan commander. I must admit, I did lose my temper occasionally and would shout at my marines. However, it was because I had a plan and needed the team to work together. Everything "nice" I tried (waypoints, asking nicely to do it) failed, and in the end I would just shout at them.... luckily, most of the time my good marines would also see my plan and would set the others straight. However, I remember one occasion when I got so fed up with my marines ignoring my orders, that I got out and did what I had been asking them to do for the past 10 minutes (weld the vents to our base shut).
It really annoys me when the match starts and everyone would say "We need a comm" I would go comm (because noone else would), only to have people complain about my tactics, building placement, and orders. I would reply with "Fine, YOU come and do it." before exiting the CC. Over 50% of the time, the same person complaining would begin ranting at the other marines about how we needed a commander, but would never take the position himself.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->HE IS THE COMMANDER. YOU FOLLOW HIS ORDERS. PERIOD. If your commander tells you to jump off a cliff, you butt had better be halfway down before he's done talking. It doesn't matter if the order seems stupid to you, the commander has acces to information beyond what a grunt has. When he told you to jump off the cliff, he needs you rear end back in base faster than you could walk there, and nevermind your equipment. He could see that an alien force is coming, and he needs you back to base NOW. To get the turrets up. That will kill the alien force. And tilt the game to the Marine's favor. Which won't happen if you don't die and respawn back in base. SO WHY THE **** AREN'T YOU JUMPING OFF THE CLIFF ALREADY? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Alot of players fail to realise they are just a cog in the machine. Their death in terms of the team, is nothing. If I order my marines to group together at marine spawn and them proceed somewhere, I don't expect 25% of them to run to the armoury, 25% to run off somewhere else, and a 3rd 25% to start asking for weapons. I expect them to get to where I told them to go. Even if half of them die on the way, it doesnt matter, so long as the remaining half complete their objective. Sure, in terms of individual gameplay, dying is not a good thing, and constant death/respawn can be annoying, but if the commander is worth their salt, and the marines can work together, generally the commander is not sending them to certain death, but to fulfil an objective that may be tough to complete, but something the commander believes is worth the losses.
I hope you guys who say that the normal marines should follow you no matter what enjoy "constructive criticism". I've played under plenty of pretty bad coms. I normally follow orders, but some people tend to get ticked off when I try and give them advice on how to improve their game. Try to understand sometimes it's not the marines fault, it's the coms.
(I know it's a hard job. I've tried a couple of times, and totally screwed it up. But I also know that it's really easy for the coms to blame the marines when it was actually their fault. Just keep an open mind.)
Well, sometimes people can be helpful. Just yesterday i was playing on a big server and, well, i decided to com since nobody else would. It turned out that these marines were the most helpful guys ever! I'm not too good as com, but these guys helped me get a lot better.
I've got a smile on my face thinking of commslap... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
The annoying part is when you send all your marines to base, planning your assault, and 70% of them wander off individually... :|
Too bad there isn't a 'hold position here' waypoint...
I think we need more descriptive waypoints. Right now we got go to....and if you hit the right things, pick up equipment, attack (the waypoint actually follows the alien!) weld and defend. And none of these are up to us to decide what comes out. I dont see why Flayra doesnt make a more traditional rts style commands for your troops, like attack (area, so you dont have to click the skulk thats bouncing around), hold position, patrol, go.
Also, as a comm it really is helpful if you explain your plan to the rest of the team. This will allow the intelligent people on your team to help organize the rest of the team. After the group of marines finishes building an rt, should they guard it until it electrifies/gets a tf/pg nearby, or should they run to the next rt? If they know what you would like done in general, they can make those little decisions.
If you have marines that can't understand your general plan, and are cocky enough to think they know better than you and ignore specific instructions, then you are probably screwed for that game.
The only structures I can order rines to guard now are TFs, everything else just gets a build waypoint. Also the only structures that come up with a build waypoint instead of move are turrets. So not only do we only have a limited selection of waypoints to use, half the time I can't even get them to work. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

If you're not going to follow orders, why bother playing?
Go back to CS. Please. This mod doesn't need you if you can't follow orders.
Welcome aboard, btw.

man I wish it was easier to make people defend themselves (defend target at waypoint, to themselves) it does wonders for obiedience
