Been there, done that with Norton. Any particular virus scanner? Oh and sometimes, CS freezes
• farcryfarcry Join Date: 2003-06-22 Member: 17614Members
try getting the NOD32 virus scanner, its the best rated virus scanner out there, norton is slow, clunkey, and tbh cant detect 90% of viruses, or if it does doesnt detect it right :-\

just had a though, try running the HL patch (full one) again, this will repair any corrupt files (like hl.exe)

i would suggest defragmenting your hard drive or mabey even formating it if you have the time to back things up
• agentpropagentprop Join Date: 2002-11-16 Member: 8961Members
Are there any messages when the games close?
Do other programs close after a while?
It might be a 3d issue, try getting the latest drivers.

Ugh...I know the drill.
1.)Backup data
2.)Defragment
3.)Scandisk
4.)Virusscan
5.)Spyware check
6.)Re-install all faulty programs cleanly
7.)Update any drivers
8.)Re-install current drivers if "7" dosen't apply
9.)Generally this solves any problem. If it still dosen't work, post here.

Any sign of that wacky sprites error perhaps?

Get sound card drivers up to date as well.

Same thing happens to me a lot. But then sometimes it won't happen for a few days (even weeks) but then it'll come back with a vengance.

Turning a desktop fan so it faces my tower helped a bit. heh

i suggest you not make such scary thread titles.

i thought for a second that nat-sel.org forums were closing down...

Hmm.... True, sometimes it won't freeze, it's very unpredictable. And I juz realised, Warcraft III :ROC and TFT do the same. There are no warning dialoges except for Wacraft III that says: "Fatal Error, memory ref. at 00000x05 colud not be "read" (I think thats how it looked.)

sound card and video card too close together? My old comp had that problem..... They turned eachother's breathing space into an oven, and CS just kept crashing and crashing.....

Pulled the two apart and problem was fixed.
• MCRMCR Join Date: 2003-09-30 Member: 21356Members
You really think 2 cards being together could be the problem? Besides, i don't think Freaq has a sound card.

His sound card is built-in. Well, i've went over to his house... and well, i think he BADLY needs to update his video card. Cause Savage went out of buisness so they are not holding up any patches or anything. oh yeah, Freaq, you could try screenshooting your resluts from your DirectX test and let us see what kind of video card you have. Then, maybe, someone would be kind enought to direct him to a site which contains patches.

lol @ Zig

anyway....that error can very possibly be because of a bad stick of RAM,like I told you before

Too bad MonsE is real busy with his life atm,so we need a replacement....hmmm....really,you should try tech-support...so I think this should be phased there

On a side note....any blue-screens involved??Could be a BSOD you know

Hmm... then could somebody move this thread to "Tech Support" please? If you've got XP, use sys restore. It's in your start menu.

My little brother has about the same problem as Freaq. The main problem was that when he played any game (warcraft III, CS, NS...) the pc was just hanging after a while. Sometimes after a few seconds. When i looked into the BIOS, the temparture was way too high! So i've let his pc box open so the heat can get out of the box..

Another suggestion is actually getting you're videocard replaced..
• FreaqFreaq Join Date: 2003-07-24 Member: 18404Members
Hmm... Problem is, that my Video card is built into the motherboard. And, its a book PC(The height is about the size of your middle finger) anyone know whether any small good DCs will fit? Lyk a GeForce2 but small. Unless the GeForce2 is small.......

Hmm, i dont think there are any videocards with that size...

Never buy a pc where you cant replace any parts in...

But is your pc doing this since you've bought it? Or is it happening lately?
Cause when it's happening lately, i suggest you reinstall your whole pc...

O, did I mention that Generals wont run?
• Mr_DoomMr_Doom Join Date: 2003-10-06 Member: 21464Members
Look at your system management an then in your logs. If there's a problem that hangs the system, it's in there...
