Sometimes Mute Just Isn't Enough

Mr Screamer
Just got off a game just now where I met the most over-the-top mic user on the planet. He screamed constantly about his entire team blew and were idiots, etc. The problem was he was a half decent player but where a situation would've maybe been salvagable he's suddenly burst into gouts of flaming insults; the net result? Half the team either stopped to type/voice abuse at him and the other half went out of their way to avoid helping just to spite the jerk.

It seems to be a kind of general 'online gaming' thing, but why is it some people are completely ignorant of the fact people won't do what you tell them to if you start shrieking and calling them useless before they've even done anything?
Ok, so a lot of players are nice and we get a cool, relaxed game and a giggle but every now and then one of those violent oddities comes along just about jamming their mic down their throat or luckily just in some cases filling the teamchat with spiteful remarks.
Sometimes I have a problem with someone on my team being not particularly useful but I usually handle it by asking them what's up and stuff before usually whipping them into shape or if they've got an attitude; giving them such venomous remarks they leave the game (and I'll make sure it's obviously aimed just at them). It's the people who just start barking abuse at the team in general that really get on my... nerves.

The point in this case is though I hate to mute people I did to this guy but the game fell apart because the rest of the team was too busy telling him to he needs to calm down or stop being so damn serious it's just a game. In the end half the his team (aliens) left, me included.
I just wish these people would realise that they're spoiling it for not only everyone else with their screaming fits but for themselves too.
Games are for fun but some people seriously need to chill

Yeah, you can get pretty angry at times. I've actually seen a HMG got dropped, taken up, the user got killed in base, and 4 marines humping the armory and I see the HMG slowly disappears. I respawn and I try to grab the HMG, but because of the low end connection and suxxor computer I have, I get in a lag spike all while getting spored by 2 lerks in some god forsaken vent. And what really annoys me is those 4 marines that was humping while a 20 res investment disappeared. Also other situation where my teammates doesnt know the thing called teamwork and listening

It's a roll of the dice. Chances are, when somebody is loud and making insulting remarks to other player, he/she will get muted. Then, it's just a luck of the draw. It's just happens by chance when the commander actually notices you doing something right and then follows you around.

It's easy to get the Commander's attention, just hold your ground (i.e. Hold down an open node from like 10 skulks).

Skills first, then attention. That's how I view it now. Or, just view it in terms of rank.

    Got the Commander.

Get a few field Captains (Soldiers)

Then have all the others follow the orders of the Captains that are given orders from the Commander. That worked SO well the last time our team had a heiarchy like that and everybody was following orders.

There are a few rules in the NS club...

#1, you may never speak of NS club

#2, everyone that is on your team is/can become a totaly useless nub that drools and froths at your mouth

#3, your the only player on your team, against the whole other team (which is all in the same room with a preset battle plan... which they discussed during the 2 hour meeting before the round started)

#4, Always find a different server, because the last one you were in was full of idiotic noobs that dont even use their mouses..

Then again... why am i even talking aboutthe situation with the stupid players of NS... i cant EVEN PLAY BECAUSE STEAM SUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the first rule was "you do not talk about NS club" and the second rule was, " you do not... talk about NS club"

Actually, that very same match in Mineshaft, we had a guy in the opposite team (marines) typing in public chat about how it was unfair we'd blocked off the 2 chokepoints around MS and that the map was not of a normal sexual orientation and how it was an exploit and stuff. I pointed out to him that they only had 2 points to defend... 2 points and we'd visciously beat them back on both fronts. It was their own failings that lead to them being pretty much locked in and he had the cheek to blame the level lol ^^

Needless to say between the two of them it was hard not to lose your temper ><

I really do hate those people that start bitching about their team and how they suck cause they aren't following him (into an ambush or well defended hive usually) and he's dieing constantly.
I admit, I'm VERY VERY vocal in the game when it comes to rines. Last night, I was in a very hectic game that lasted a little over an hour. Ns_lost, playing the rines and we weren't being very serious in the begining. After 15 minutes, the aliens had two onos, two fades, a couple of lerks and were rushing our base. We actually staved them off before destroying them. During this time, we opened that one passage to Alpha and built an outpost in there and took out the hive. About ten minutes later, the comm handed out almost everyone HA equipment and we headed to cargo. Well, we got to cargo and the comm said that base was under attack. We built in cargo while their entire team was at base, they took out AC and put it back up. In the end, we got to that little area in Equalibrium behind the glass and set up base there. We then took out cargo again and secured it, then got alpha. Fortunatly, when we got to the part where we were geting AC, we all started working together, and the voice chat wasn't empty after that point. What amazes me even more was that there wasn't anyone trash talking, and the commander wasn't really giving us any crap over screwing around the begining of the game. By the end of the game, about 20 onos had been killed not to mention about all the rts had changed hands at least twice.

I think if these people were in a game like that and saw how it evolved, they would put more faith into late returns. They are few, but when they happen, the game truely shines and everyone on both teams are working together.

Sometimes you get one of those people over the mic that sound cool, real relaxed and helping people out and announcing when theres a problem. But then when things start looking grim, they start spouting random insults and inanities at everyone for sucking so bad and not listening to him. Pain in the bum if you ask me, I usually get their attention, then tell them that I'm muting them. Then they start insulting me for a second before *click*.

People need to learn that there are courtesy rules that you need to follow online, if you don't it ruins the experience for everyone.

Wow, I am glad I am as mechanical as can be in serious games. Of course when it comes to playing tag with Last and Koolio on the pandas training server... well lets just say I screamed like a little girl... thanks to their newly formed bunny hoping celerity skulk skill and my general slowness. I was quite afraid. But then again Koolio refused to chase anyone but me...

We had one putz with a HUGE mouth. In this game I was the top killer and as a Skulk ended up with loads of rez. Man, going gorge to drop a hive was the worse mistake. For the next 3 minutes it was a constant scream for more chambers, and healing regardless of what I was doing.

The sad part was he couldn't put his money where his mouth was. After complaining about me not dropping the 3rd hive, he promptly went Onos and got crushed by an elevator. What a waste of rez.

Oh well, I guess with games like this you can expect to get a few sociopaths.

Yeah I hate it when theres one guy on your team whining about things going wrong. The funny thing is, they are whining about things the have no clue about. They just assume you suck and can't do anything. They never take into consideration the 99% of the other factors involved in whats happening. Take res nodes for instance. You are aliens, and the marines have 6 nodes to your 3. Obviously this is bad, because as we all know, marines haveing 5-6 nodes is worse for aliens than aliens having 5-6 nodes for marines. Anyway, some loser on your team is screaming into his mic like a little schoolgirl that we need to kill nodes or we lose. Thank you captain obvious. After 5 minutes, they still have 6 nodes, and possibly killed some of yours. Not good. Does the loser on your team think that just maybe, his team is trying to kill nodes? No. He assumes that you suck, and promptly makes his opinion clear over the voice communication.

Lets face it, the marines are getting very smart when it comes to the resource lifelines. Now that they can electrify, it makes things even harder. But usually thats not it. You either die on your way to resource nodes, or there are marines there guarding it. Ofcourse, nooby mcnoob, the whiny voice comm ****, has no clue that there are marines everywhere killing you while you try to take nodes, because all he can see is his screen, not yours. He has no clue, therefore assumes you suck, and ofcourse, you guessed it, pisses and moans over voice comm getting himself muted.

Usually these morons make it blatently clear whether or not they will be annoying at the beginning of the game, and I try to find them and mute them.

The one thing I can't stand when people talk too much, is not being able to hear footsteps and any other sounds the other team makes. It would be nice to have some general voice chat rules, something like "In this server only use voice chat to communicate useful messages, not how your cat just threw up on your keyboard, no bitching, no worthless comments that don't help your team in some way." I dunno something like that. Thank god for mute though.

At one time on our server, this guy who went onos (rede onos too if i remember right), was camping in the glass corridor near marine start at ns_hera , anyhows i tryed to go to the base with gorg to lay someo cs and stuff, well few marines came and started shooting at me, i tryed to run behind the corner but the onos as a nice guy he was, blocked me and i died. Well, i told him to stop being a jerk or he'd get kbanned, and continued gameplay. Later on he had blocked another guy too and continued his quest of "fun". I didnt kban him though. i just "admin_slayed" his pretty onos.

You, sir, have hit on the main reason I wasn't so sure widespred voice communication was a good thing for online games. And thanks to jackasses like that fella, it really sometimes is unpleasant. I've had folks join the server that would just repetitively pipe an annoying wav file into the game. On Marines. Which means there's one marine who COULD communicate and play with the team that is now busy trying to make himself into a loner. At least on the Alieans one guy screwing around can be ignored and things work out. On marines if you've got dead weight, it's like "F4, next game please".

Anyway, it's just the way things go man. Just when the party's getting good, very often some jerk walks in and dips his piece in the mashed potatoes. Know what I'm sayin? Of course, I notice that as more and more of the CS community starts playing NS, we get more and more of their stereotypical jerk kids. Of course, the first time the kid sees the comm hand out shotties to everyone BUT him he whines then leaves. At least in NS there is a god of sorts that rewards or punishes depending on your actions.

You mean something like this --> http://www.planetquake.com/quetiquette/

As you can see, online etiquette has been around for a long time. You will always have jerks that just can't get the concept of etiquette at all. I find that even when I'm not the best shot on a server as a marine, I still get handed almost ANYTHING I ask the commander for. Why? Because I always say "Please" and "Thank you" to everyone, especially the comm. ("OOOOoooo! A big gun! Thanks comm!") I follow orders. I suggest strategies, and I listen to other players' ideas. I play to win for the team, quite simply. I may not be the best shot, but I'm always at least decent, useful, and well equipped as a consequence. Heck, I don't even like HMGs and only like HA for handling lerks. I'd rather be LA with Shottie any other time.

I'm exactly the same on the aliens. If I have to gorge the whole damn game because my team mates are being idiots and just hoarding for onos, so be it. I do it and do it well. I build what people need, I call for reinforcements where needed, I call locations of marines, and I coordinate with others whenever I can. I play to win as a team, I really don't care about my score. Besides, being support is a strategic game, and a break from the action can be a nice change of pace.

Now if only I can find a guru to teach me how to command. I make a good squad leader when I'm not in the comm chair, and I make a mean stir fry if there's any takers on the offer!

Unfortunately I am one of those that shout when pple rambo and dun goto WP, or are not helping each other to repair each other armour and as a result whole team of HA dies and I left only a little resource to give out.

I know shouting is wrong and it is not a good habbit. But sometimes I cannot help it as I see how selfish some players choose to be. Like when a lock hive is under att, all the marine do is either walk there(not using the PG when there is one) or hanging ard the armoury to collect bullet as if they can use all the bullet they take. As a result, the game or hive is lost....

So when this take place, I cannot help but shout "REPAIR EACH OTHER!!" and to think yesterday I shouted, "Play properly idiot" for the first time...I dunno I can be so fustrated by using the word "idiot". I feel bad but I can't help myself. NS is such a tense game. I can't relax playing as a commander.

20 Onos!!!!! u sure or not....are u playing 5v5 player game? I find the number a bit far fetch. To think in a 20-32 player server. The alien to get 2000 resource take a long time. And if they managed to bite their way through to get it, usually or in most cases, it mean doom for the rines.

How in the world did u manage that number??

There's usually at least one in a game, isn't there? People need to relax.

What I hate is when people speak over each other.
