IME, as a replacement for the siege cannon, it does miserable damage. A res tower is downed with 12 shots. A hive with 30+ shots. It can not down a single OC if there is a gorge healing it, against say, 3 OCs, 1 DF and a gorge, it is completely useless.
Does anyone regularly gets alien kills using a GL? A regen onos is killed with 4 direct hits. A carapace skulk can withstand a direct hit (I think a vanilla skulk also can survive a direct hit, but I am not sure). Can anyone claim they regularly get direct hits against something smaller than an onos?

and don't compare it with the siege .
the tactical use is imho to get pressure on the aliens .

It's good for catching running fades. As you mentioned it's the only indirect fire weapon that the marines have. In my opinion it's essential for assaulting hives even if the aliens have no lame because the splash makes the skulks sit by the hive and heal instead of biting your shotguns. And finally it has the mental area denial effect. No one is going to run into an area with grenades. You should always have a GL in a group of attacking marines, if you have it available.
GL does very excellently against 3 OCs, 1 DC and a gorge. You seem to not realize that it does splash damage, so not only is the OC that you're firing at taking 150 damage per nade, so are the other 2 OCs, the DC and the gorge.

Try it and you might be surprised. The grenadier does around 500 average damage to the OCs and cosiderably less to the DF and the gorge. The gorge then closes in and heals the towers to full health while the grenadier is performing the reloading rituals. It is not possible to get the towers before getting the gorge first.
I'm pretty sure an OC can't survive four direct nade blasts, especially with level 3 weapons, so the gorge is going to be mighty surprised when he runs in to save it during your reload.
BTW,GL does double damage to structures,so they actually take 300 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
One grenade = 125 damage. Cara skulk can sustain 110 damage. Cara skulk instagibbed by grenade.
Actually, a carapaced Skulk can sustain 155 damage. An uncarapaced Skulk can sustain 108 damage.
Much like that the GL needs HMG support, those structs WILL go down if while the GLer is reloading the HMGers are firing upon the structs.

Clearing WoLs. I've yet to see a WoL stand up to a GLer.
Penetrating Umbra - Sure you might not hit..... but you MIGHT hit, and that worries the enemy.
Frontline defence - fire into your friends if they're getting skulk rushed, very nice sometimes.
I don't count it as an offensive weapon tbh, since once skulks get close, you die. It's very good defensively, and if you run into a WoL you'll be glad you have it.
BTW - why would you waste precious GL ammo on an RT?
My thought exactly. Not effected by umbra. Against any decent alien team, this is a god send as the lerks will be umbra everything in sight and only 1 out of every 3 bullets will be hitting. Put that in your HMG and smoke it.
If you wanna secure Vents, you can also use mines btw. GL is for clearing huge areas off the alien infestation and as the Supportive Path of Flame and Destruction.
It is the choice for purification of all territory.
A good HA squad of 5 would consist of 2SG 2HMG and 1 GL. GL would lob Grenades on the path of the squad, clearing everything and make the ground shake like an earthquake!
WOL,Webs,Umbra,Gorges,Lerks,Skulks, even Fade and Onii will be purified and end as 1-3 res for the Human cause! And HMG is for killing Lifeforms! Stay Cover and let those GL and SG clear the structures!

gls can kill pretty much any light class (skulk,lerk,gorge) with an indirect hit. which is more than you can say for other weapons. to add to this, it shoots around corners, in vents, over oc's, nothing but net.
i'm not meaing to boast, as i'm nowhere near being uber-"elite" mega h4x0r at ns, but i'm deadly with a gl. i like to think of it as a 3d mini-golf game, and i am pretty "elite" at golf.
unlike other weapons, the trick is to lead your target a little, and account for the arc.
taking those into consideration, its not hard to hit anything, including flying lerks. all it takes is practice.
So in summary, the GL is good for quite a lot, and there are plenty of times when a quick 20 res goes a long way to giving your squad the ability to march straight into fortified territory, as well as saving time and money by providing an alternative to siege-crawling. About the only thing sieges do that GLs don't is fire directly through walls. Sieges have a place, but if you can just as easily have a guy with a GL lob an endless stream of shells just around the corner, you should do that instead. Post a HMG/SG combo with him to keep the baddies off, and watch as alien structures turn to goo. You'll get the job done faster and cheaper, which is what it's all about.
1. Areadenial
Spamming grenades in all entrances to a room makes sure no alien gets in without beign hurt , and many aleins dont like to take the chance
2. WoL cleaning
4 Grenades almost kill one OC, almost kills 8 OCs if theyre stacked...one lmg or SG will help kill anything...
3. Spawncamping
Shooting Grenades into a hive will hurt the hive and kill skulks spawning(one skulk dies without carapace)
4. Teamwork
The Gl alone cant do much, but two gls can spam alot of grenades all over the place while hmgs, sg and lmg s make short work of survivors...
Shoty, HMG, GL, Shoty, HMG, GL, Shoty, HMG, GL, etc
The GL is very important for any attacking squad, it also has its uses for defending squads as well. One GL lets you get through alien defenses much faster then normal hmgs and shoties would. It also doesn't expose you to return fire, which means all the hev armors will have full armor and their guns out. While a squad without a gl will have half their people hurt, with empty clips, and the other half will be trying to weld them.
Another use of the GL that I'm amazed hasn't been posted yet, its its ability to find sensory chambers. Yes, those annoying little things that you know are somewhere near, but the commander can't/wont scan the area.
Also, it is very rare that anyone sees two GLs inaction. Just like siege cannons, one is good, but two are more then twice as good. Two glers can *almost* keep a constant stream of grenades going (one fires while the other reloads). In games where I had 6 people on my team (enough for two gls), aliens defenses and hive rooms went down insanly fast. Two glers with level 3 upgrades firing both their clips at the same building can do something like 2500 damage in about 5 seconds.
GL is the best weapon ino and the most tactical!
it has so many purposes, like clearing ways, making sure a wont go threw doors by shoting nades there, scaring off onos's and more, and it will allways kill a skulk chewing a post if u shto there.... very easy to kill a that run stright to u too. and as fat_wang said... the key is spamming it every werhe when ur going as a group of ha, it is a support weapon!
BTW never ever ever give a GL with no HA and some more ha guys! it will be useless and get lost in seconds... maybe the ha isnt important but just never give a lone GL to 1 marine so he will rambo with it!
