A single fade and a single marine are pretty much equal on a 1 on 1 battle. It depends on how fast a marine can deal the damage to the fade before the 2 - 3 fade swipes score in on the marine. If the fade hits the first swipe on the marine before being shot, its over, for example, spawn camping, blinking, etc.
I'd like to know what key binds most of the good fade players are using. I know they are using some alias and binds because you just can't switch from blink to swipe fast enough using the "lastinv" command.
I wrote one that uses the right mouse button to blink and the left to swipe. It works fairly well, but still doesn't switch as fast as I've been seeing some of the better fades do.
If this was all in your training program thing, I don't doubt that where to shoot aliens will be covered. Then you'll not waste your ammo trying to HS a fade

Anyhows, i'v been using fade the most right after i watched the synVSham demo's cuz i then realised how much good a fade can actually do for the team. After that time i'v noticed that you can pretty much hit jetpackers in mid air doing blink and then quickly (manually) switching to swipe, I can do it, the swiping thing i mean. My aim just aint that perfect yet. Apparently the graphics "lag" abit also when doing so but it sure works.

Regarding the other posts, fade is not near much as overpowered. IMHO the aim and tactics are the issues here.
yeah, I've started killing people while my claws are still in the blink animation... it's really satisfying to kill people before your feet touch the ground ^^ Just act like you've switched weapons the minute you hit that 'lastinv' key and it'll work fine; takes a while to get used to the fact you're still half-way through the weaponchange animation but when you see the blood spurting you know you're doing it right
As for it being overpowered; It's a 50 res evolution!!! If it couldn't kill vanilla marines there's something severly wrong. The real 'balance' issue for most people is how fast it can sometimes crop up in a game despite being the 2nd most expensive singular thing an alien can spend their res on in the whole game (same cost as going gorge and putting up a hive) =P
sad thing about fades... i dont get to be them that often... especially early fades.... Some people dont realise "hey, we need a gorge supporting the offensive" or "hey we need a hive" or "hey we need a umbra monkey" its all about "killz dem rines... KILLZ TEHM!!!!!!!"
This is probably my problem. I didn't realize that the attack occurs even though the animation hasn't played first person. I know viewing thrid person it plays just fine.
The popular 3-fade rush within 3:30 to 4:30 minuets into the game (that's about the average time) can be countered. It is a very strong tactic, and it takes an equally strong one to match it. My clan was scimming, and we had good reason to believe that we would see fades in about 4:00 mins into the game. As soon as we dropped the armory, we upgraded - during the upgrade time we got a node or two and dropped an arms lab - no upgrades - ASAP we dropped a proto and got JPs. By the time we had enough res for a 4 man JP/Shotty attack - the fades appeared (I think this was around 4:30 minutes) and we were able to take them on with some success. Once we got weapon 1 - we were able to kill them.
The 3 fade rush can be countered, but you have to guess ahead of time that the opposing team will rush you with fades, and you must tech rush to JPs without upgrading anything short of the armory.
Fade's blink is just too damned uber :-/ I heard a suggestion some where along the line of switching Meta and Blink? That might be a good solution to try.
[Edit] JPs in 4 minutes with no upgrades is pretty much suicide enless you're great with JPs (Like the HAM guys... thats quite frusterating) JP HMGs are just such a huge investment to die in 2 bites [/Edit]

However, if you have an uber comm or two, healing a JP user is fast and easy, unlike healing with HA which is slow and cumbersome.

I was reading the thread and thought, "Wow, this sounds like the way Stoneburg commands." Then I read who the author was...
