    Hm...when I look at it I can't help but be reminded of the StarCraft Lurker (at least in the first pic...Beast's versions strays more). Does anyone else notice this?

    Hi everyone! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Some replies here and there <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><i>Spock Posted on Sep 22 2003, 10:58 AM</i>
    So, what songs did you listen to while drawing this picture?
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Well, now I can't remember exactly what songs I was litening back when I did this pic, but still, I think that there was some Movie Original Soundtracks, I can remember I was listening the SuperBeast, Path vol.2 songs, along with Soulfly's Flyhigh... Aliens and NS soundtracks...
    And well some other songs not directly related to the ambiant I wanted to portray in this pic but that I really enjoy listening over and over as they help me keep on going on motivated (even if it's 3 in the morning <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->).

    As I've got a very "visual orientated mind" and imagination, while I design and draw, I try to imagine my characters in action, like if they were in a movie, in a particular scene.
    Listening to music may help envision this.
    For example, while listening to Flyhigh, I clearly remember that I imagined this creature hatcling in a very dark corner, then screaming and starting it's hunt for marine flesh with erratic moves, speeding crawls on darkened ceilings, it's translucent hull emiting some glowing pulses and being nearly the only source of light...

    Note: other than on this occasion, I barely never listen to Soulfly's...

    I should also say that what musics I listened too isn't very relevant, as maybe you wouldn't find any interest in this particular song, while I would find it very expressive; it's a matter of personal opinion here, and everyone should try to find musics that they find appealing in order to draw <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If a music particularly reflects an ambiant but can't get along with it, just try something else <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Drawing should always stay a pleasure in my opinion <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><i>Majin Posted on Sep 22 2003, 01:34 PM</i>

    Well I did not seriously thought about anything definitive yet as a name for this creature, I thought people on the forums may help <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Personaly, I would go for something orientated around "Manticora" as this is the most close-looking mythological creature I may think about when I look at my pic <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    (The manticora, if I remember well, had a lion's body, an old man's face, and a scorpion tail, among other things, but it's been a long time since the last time I checked for mythological stuff and memories <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->).

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--><i>Revolver Posted on Sep 23 2003, 09:41 PM</i>

    Hmmm... well, I could not tell about that... because I must admit I never played to StarCraft... I had a glimpse at the game back when it was released, as a friend of mine bought the game and I watched him play for a couple of minutes, religiously listening him giving me explainations and tips on "How cool the game is" (he always do that <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) but that's barely all I fear... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Yeah, shame on me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Call it 'Chimera', or some evil thing from Greek mythology. What was Hades's guard dog with the 3 heads called? Bleh, I forgot... D:

    Personally, I would call it Pjofsky, but that's just me.

    [edit] I would also listen to the 'rap/rock' hybrids of songs, such as Linkin' Park, gets me awesome ideas.
  • nightdragonnightdragon Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11848Members, Constellation
    Hades dog was called cerberus. And its a bit overdone, I think the chimera is a nice name, but in mytholigy the chimera was a many headed beast . Not an onos-skulk thingy.

    At least thats what I think <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    thank god for mission impossible 2's explanation of what a chimera is.
    Pronouced Kai-mir-ah
    A fire-breathing monster thingy usually represented as a mixture of a lion, goat, and serpent.
    lion head
    goat body
    serpent tail
    i think

    That's just frickin' awesome.

    Chimera was also a hentai where the assassin was a hermaphrodite.
    So that name makes me not like it.
    Manitcor or Manticora is a nice name.

    I crapped my pants when I saw this drawing, well not really. Damn you Jeer, you are so good at this stuff, how did you do it? A lot of reading, practicing? What was your formula for sucess. As for me, I find it hard to think of something and draw it realistically, I have to have reference, hence still life drawings are my tidbit.

    Anyways Jeer, please do another alien concept. I have an idea you might like to elaborate on. Make an alien with two heads, thats right, two heads. You think you could do something like that and make it look cool?

    Thx Jeer for the splendid eye candy.

    Hi! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thanks for the tip Majin <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Actually, after thinking a bit about the name issue, I took in consideration one fact:

    NS alien creatures have short names:

    "Skulk, Onos, Fade, Gorge, Lerk"

    If you take in account the fact that these names are used by army men, then you understand why they are so short:
    It's easier to yell: "ONOS INCOMING!!!"
    Than: "Onosiraptum Devorisis Stomperous INCOMING!!"

    <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    So if we have to stick with the idea of "Manticora" and make it short, why not something like "Kora" or "Kora?"?
    Just an idea. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Wanted to say that I had another alien concept in head and in preparation (I just have to find time to do it), it didn't included two heads but this still is a good idea <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    I may take it in account and do several sketches, to see if it goes well with the original idea I had <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And thanks to BeRzErKeR and HomerX <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I think it was some freaky multi-body part creature. Something about the head of a lion, the body of a goat or something...

    And the Hydra was the multi-headed dragon. The one where if you cut off one, 2 more regrew or something. Freaky.

    Hi!

    LoL, Duhflyinlerk, you wouldn't want to see my first try at colouring something... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If I may tell you something, you are just doing fine: starting from having large areas of colours, you should then try to add more details in those areas (like shading effects, texture effects etc). <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    Try little by little, and try to have a representation of what you would like to obtain in your mind. This may be a little bit frustrating at the very beginning, but don't be discouraged, you'll see that you will improve greatly <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Liku: well, that's probably one of the few reasons why I love the blue color so much hehe! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
