<div class="IPBDescription">good idea or bad?</div> I think it will be a good idea,
say your going onos, a rambo marine walks into the hive and sees your egg, by then you feel like @@#$@#%#$^%#$
should you be able to cancel and get 50% of the res you used back? what do you think.

OMG POST COUNTER INCREASER!!!!!!!!
OMG BANT! BANT TOAST!
Sometimes, it's really annoying to gestate and realize that you picked the wrong upgrade, and go "SHAT!"
It happens to all of us now.. don't lie now...
Canceling gestation. Most of you just plaster your tiny minds with this idea that I press a button and POOF I pop out of my egg safe and sound. Right? Am I right? Right.
Instead...
<span style='color:orange'>When canceling while gestating into a LIFEFORM I must 'tick off' any time I've spent gestating. So if I accidently evolve to a gorge, if I'm fast, I'll loose almost no time at all gestating (I've spent 4 seconds gestating, I then must spend 4 seconds UNgestating, and then I'll pop out of the egg). This means that unless you pop into gestation while a marine is right in front of you, the marine will almost always be able to knife your egg to death.
You get a full refund of res.</span>
<span style='color:yellow'>Canceling an UPGRADE. This is to NOT punish players that live for a long time, and then have enough res to evolve to a higher lifeform. Naturally you'd want regen instead of carapace for your lerk, but you're better off 'kill'ing yourself then evolving to lerk and suffering with cara. So, you choose which upgrade via RMB that you want to loose (Go to Evolve Upgrade -> Click on trait type you want to loose (D M or S)) and you 'unevolve' it (Same time spent as gaining the trait). Then when you're finished, you have no upgrade, and are free to choose a new one.</span>

<span style='color:green'>Example: Skulk goes to evolve into a fade but clicks on Lerk by accident.
While in the gestation state he brings up the menu again and clicks the Fade button.
Skulk now has to wait for the evo progress made to go back to zero and THEN it'll instantly begin counting up again until Fade is reached.
If he chooses his old class (Skulk) the process ticks off to zero and he pops out safe and sound.</span>'
A dev said that the 'liens were supposed to be free-evolving, adapting to the situation and not having to call on others to do it for them. This would actually make that true.
You get a full refund of res.</span> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
This is an excellent idea.
However, I don't think that you should be able to change the 2 res upgrades because it would make aliens too fast with their versitallity.

Aliens are supposed to be versatile. That's the whole idea behind having 3 catagories of upgrades with 3 upgrades each, and 5 lifeforms that will allow what? 135 combinations of play?
Marines are NOT supposed to be versatile, which is why they have building constraints, and can only get guns at base, etc.
hmm, kind of like HA or JP, when both are sitting there?

Well in that thread I linked, I also mentioned dropping JP and HA*.
But yes, three things that suck about NS:
1) Can't drop 'upgrades'.
2) Can't recycle wrong chambers as an alien.
3) I'm penalized for evolving from fade to gorge, even though I haven't died. (50 res to evolve to fade. Now, I want to go gorge. That means that I'm only loosing 10 res, true, but where's the other 50 res I spent on fade go? I haven't died, why should I permenantly 'loose' that res? Maybe an 80% return on your investment...)
For instance, you just start evolving to fade, when you really should have gone gorge to put the hive up, this is something i tend to do all too often and then hit myself on the head over...
I must put my vote in the BAD category.

Changing evolutions on the fly for a small fee, however, is worthwhile. What is useful in early game is not always useful late game, as many redemption onos are soon to find out.

So? 1.04 wasn't 'broken' and it got changed. See you in your 1.04 server, then.
Thats a good analogy, but not necessarily applicable to this particular situation. This thread asked for my opinion, so I gave it, I think that giving an alien the chance to cancel gestation is a bad idea. Its my opinion, and I dont necessarily have to explain it to you or back it up with solid reasons. You can probably draw me a mathematical algorithim showing detailed proof on WHY aliens should be able to cancel gestation, but in that time I simply would have grown bored with you and went back to playing NS.
Its just my opinion. If you really want to flame me, do it in a PM.

Similarly, I believe it is well-within Alien physiology to be able to re-evolve to a different M\D\S trait. Make secondary evolutions take twice as long and cost twice as much, since the old trait must be de-evolved before the new one can take effect.
I have my MDS traits bound to the Ins\Home\PgUp\Del\End\PgDn pad (I only ever use 2 of each category) and I really hate when I accidentally choose celerity on my Lerk. I suppose the decision is up to the designers, but I personally think it'd be very appropriate to allow Aliens to change traits.

get cloak
that was my initial reaction too, but I have found myself in situations where I have been skulking at 2 hives (I tend to get adren or celerity (I love the old leap, but the new leap is pointless, so celerity more nowadays)), then I see we need a lerk for umbra/primal - whatever, and I find myself either having to deliberately get myself killed by storming marine base shouting "please kill me rines!!", or make do with upgrades which do not suit the species that the team now needs.
THAT is why it seems the majority of people would like to see aliens able to change their upgrades (based on what people have said in this thread).
Interrupting evolution to a different *species* though? - I don't see it happening really, and I agree with Hicks' sentiment - it isn't really broken, don't fix it.

Yeh u do get kinda pee'd off when u screw something up but live with it, its just a part of the game so dont take it as the end of your life like some people do. If Flay wants it changed he'll change it but if it he likes it the way it is then keep it. Maybe someone could make a plugin for all the people that cant handle not being able to undo their mistakes.

(ack*! Too much bussiness communication!)
The idea of having to spend the same time un-gestating as you've already spent gestating is the one that sounds best at the moment. This one could actually be implemented without serious impacts on balance, unlike most other ideas that have been tossed around here. And I can't think of a way to abuse it. Change that, perhaps baiting marines with a gestation sound would be a possibility.
Then there is the idea of un-gestating upgrades. Un-gestating upgrades has been suggested several times before, and has always been rejected because it allows the aliens far too much flexibility. A Lerk will usually have regeneration (and can be quite a pain to take out with only that). Suppose he comes to an area with a few DCs, he would then immediately switch to carapace instead and be even HARDER to take out. If he wants to go somewhere else, he can just switch back to regen. An Onos could switch back and forth between carapace and regeneration too, with the same effects. Gorges could switch back and forth between silence or celerity (for moving around the map) and adrenaline (for holding an area). And there's probably lots of other good ideas as well that I'm overlooking. No, switching would have massive balance impacts. The only way that could be avoided would be to incur massive handicaps for switching, like huge delays or costs, which would again make most people disregard it, and not change anything at all.
Changing evolutions while getting your res back is also quite unbalancing. The game is all about counters, but this would make countering far too easy for the aliens:
"Hmm, I'm an Onos, but they're handing out jetpacks and shotguns. Fade time. Whoa, now they're combining HA/HMG. Better switch to Onos and eat a few. Bah, Shotties? Back to Fade." And so on and so forth. Marines would never get a foot in the door. And if they did, the door would quickly gestate to a door with spikes.

Mission accomplished, but this is not fair play. Normally it is taken for granted that all posts are given equal attention. By expressly requesting attention in bold red colors, and saying "Find it admist the spam", you're implying that your post deserves more attention than other posts (and at the same time belittling the posts of others), which it doesn't. The other posts are equally important. Please use colors sparingly.
This means that a marine can still come along and kill you for the bad spot of evolving and you would lose the res still.
As for dropping HA/JP, there is too much room for exploit. Suchas just before you die in a JP/HA drop it for a teammate in LA or something so that it can be reused even if some welding is needed (in the case of HA). JPs don't even need to be welded. :/
