    Looks like Valve has reached Microsoft's quality standards...

    I'm waiting for the first remote Steam exploit <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Once you reinstall Steam, just plunk the old cache file over the empty one. Should work. Steam will update anything that needs to be updated.

    I had gotten a couple games of NS 2.01e on Steam an hour ago. Sure there were only a couple people, but at least I got to try it. There are various bugs associated with NS on Steam. For one, as someone pointed out, the command menus are distorted. More interestingly, all TFs and RTs are instantly electrified upon being built. Even HMGs and welders were "electrified" but I never thought to see if they actually shock aliens. (TFs and RTs do) Another bug I noticed was the console log is spammed with an error message.

    (Is it normal to see the ally building names and hitpoints when aiming at them? Is this a server mod, 2.01e, or Steam?)

    One thing is for sure, though. Steam seems to be getting more stable the more I use it. I think Steam dealing with the clogged content servers caused some of the issues were seeing.

    Well if this works in 2.0 then Steam-using coms should stand a good chance of victory <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the problem is that everyone is facing these bugs, everyone is facing issuse, and nobody really knows what to do

    there is no information for us, and i consider steampowered.com dead

    there needs to at LEAST be a fourm for tracking the issuses people are facing

    and that froum needs a heavy duty server from the looks of things

    all i am saying is that valve needs to say "do this...." but they arent...

    Does anybody know how to install NS into steam manually?
    I really would like to play again. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I think I'll just take my usual approach... leave it for a while then install it later after all the bugs are worked out (like in a week or a fortnight =P )
    Sure being a pioneer in the unknown is kinda fun but I'd rather not nuke my HL in the name of adventure just yet <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    You guys must have really crappy computers or something? I have had very few problems with steam? Oh and yes if you still have a 56k it will take a freaking year to download crap!! As with anything get a new connection dont' blame steam. I downloaded HL Opposing force and CS in prolly have an out total time getting 114k or something download which is not bad. Steam crashes? Are you guys running legit ****? I have no idea what your setups are so i can't say but my steam never crashes so I look at most of your posts thinking what the heck. BUt what ever I guess you all have to blam the program when it is most likely your cpu <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm quite sure that having patched Half-Life to the full, installing Steam ONLY for Half-Life, trying to join an identical server to the one my brother with exactly the same setup just joined instantly and, well, not being a moron all add up to prove that misconception wasn't there. I guess you didn't know all that though, so I'll let you off this once <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Re"join"ing the server again and again eventually proved fruitful, and to prove it didn't download the content in chunks every few seconds when I was doing this, it still does every time I want to play.

    Bugged? I think so.

    [edit]

    Also, ICE, you'd think REQUIRED software would be robust, and 90% of users would be able to use it without it crashing or not working particularly well. Think again before posting fanboy-esque uneducated rubbish.

    My specs:

    AMD Barton XP 3000+
    512MB PC400 CL2 RAM
    GeForce4 Ti 4200 64MB
    ADSL connection 768kb/s ds | 128kb/s us

    Nothing works - dumping this crap and getting
    back to regular Half-Life. Hope there's some
    folks left to play on the won.net servers. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    um... just wondering but how many of the people having trouble here got the beta and updated rather than grabbing the proper file from steampowered? There's already been enough trouble with people downloading the beta version before this one was released and getting confused <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ok, so I installed steam, created an account and then run the converting thing. The only problem is that it frose on opposing force so i had to ctrl - alt - del. It didn't convert my mods and luckily it didn't uninstall my old halflife directory. So is there a way to run the convert thing again, without creating a new account?

    @Palmaneen: Yes, uninstall your steam client and
    then reinstall it using the account you generated
    when installing it in the 1st place.

    Soz, but I haven't figured out another way to this. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    @Geminosity: I've downloaded it from the official steampowered page.
    I was about to host the file on my private webspace, but after all the
    trouble I went through, I felt like I wouldn't be doing anybody a favor
    by doing so. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    i did preatty much the same thing, trying to find a way now

    if only there was an "inport games" button

    it looks like the only way is to compleaty uninstall (be sure to deleate everything steam related), go back and install, and use a driffrent email, and try it that way

    dont bother using the same email, then it thinks everything is fine and danay and you have already install the stuff you need

    god this is bs

    thanks anyways lag <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thing is, with steampowered pretty much under a blanket of DoS attacks this is the perfect time for anyone who enjoys **** other people off (quite a lot of those on the net) to start throwing out old beta versions claiming it's the new one and watching people flop about =s
    With all the anti-steam attitudes floating about before the release it's not like there aren't enough people out there motivated enough to try and make this transistion more painful than it already is <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    until valve gets a FAQ, bug report, and support fourm going (or at least get SP.com back up) I am though fiddeling with it

    I have gone though 17 "updates" that appear to do nothing, I cant transfer ANYTHING without downloading it agian, and i am left with nothing but lock ups and errors

    and HL2 is how many days away?

    AGHH i need more sleep now, have to go to work in 5 hours

    I tried to reinstall it but now I just have to download all the games if I want to play them. I used the automatic uninstaller. I will try the custom to make sure everything is deleted now, cause I don't think it deleted everything last time. If it doesn't work I'll try to make a new account. But can I just type whatever as e-mail? And can I move it over to my real account?

    I was even able to play 5 seconds of NS. Though its not ready yet. Without a patch from Flayra I thing it won't work very well.

    As far as I know, you need a legit e-mail addy.
    When reinstalling steam, just enter the e-mail
    addy and password you've used during the 1st
    install to log in.

    Edit: In fact you have to use the same e-mail, you
    used during 1st install, because steam registered
    your half-life cd-key with it.

    Setup should rerecognize your installed Half-Life
    folder and start converting your games.

    I guess the thing is to get it to locate my hl directory. It didn't do that last time, but maybe it works now when I deleted everything before reinstalling.

    @JimBowen:"scanning"? hmm... that's a new one. didn't
    have that yet. perhaps you're already further in the
    installation process than I was.

    @jabs: I know what you're going through. It was going
    really fast until it reached 93% when it got stuck for
    4 1/2 hours before it finished.
