<div class="IPBDescription">first impressions</div> Installation without any trouble (though it takes some time 20 minutes and more.)
No problems with custom mods. I'm sure there are some problems with less known mods but it works without probs with NS.
Updating takes long. And I'm sure the servers are not overrun at this moment.
+multilanguage
*multiple windows. Damn I have to click every window to bring them up.
-no custom mod filters (WTH I can't search for NS on the steam server WWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH DEATH TO VALVE)
*You can add personal favourites and also custom mod server are identified.
-If you want to play NS today DON'T INSTALL STEAM. Most server have yet not installed the new patch and in steam iself you can't search for any already modified servers.
edit: +The serverlist is pretty fast.

Nope. If I try to join my clanserver (not yet on steam) it tells me that I should prepare to play Counter-strike and than that this game is not supported yet.
Most of the Servers are not ready yet. I ran a search on DoD in the world without a ping filter..... 28 servers.
Mine is ok. But I can't start any HL game.

Play games during the next week: Get steam.
Counter-Strike crashes steam for me.

Am trying to start up CS though (yes, CS, don't kill me now <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) and...well, it's been busy starting up for the last 20 minutes now..not sure whether it is making yet some update first but...
Oh, and Steam does support LAN apparently (if I understand the tabs in the serverlist correctly <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
Well, I guess I should have expected some glitches and so on here, after all, we are talking about a whole new system which hundreds of thousand folks have to change to...I'd expect that things will work better after a few days or so...
Oh...and CS was apparently updating BTW <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->...
Anyway, guess time will tell what steam will have to offer...not like we have much choice to do much about it...

Look. The translated versions are much worser. Theres not that much text is it? About 2 pages (in the client) and about 70% of this is wrong translated to german.
Steam is way underpowered. They need more servers. I guess it takes another day before anyone can play a steam game.

I can't even launch Half-Life through steam to join a server - it just times out.

Yep Menus are bugged.
1. How do you remove (uninstall) games?
2. How do I add a game to Steam WITHOUT downloading it again? There must be an import option surely??? If I have the CS installation exe on my hard drive why the hell should I have to download it again?
3. NS doesn't work with Steam (I get could not load library c:\games\steamapps\xxxx\half-life\ns\cl_dlls\client.dll, that is the correct location).
4. You can monitor downloads using the monitor. But (after a resume) this doesn't show you how big the download is or how far along you are.
5. The buttons on the monitor are greyed out so you can't pause or stop a download.
6. Steam seems to create strange problems on my system. Like when I try and load a game it removes the backgrounds from my mIRC windows :/ This is definately due to a memory leak, it's causing loads of problems.
7. Steamified games are no longer compatible with 3rd party loaders like HLSW because it's changed the directory structure.
8. If you attempt to double click a NS server from the Steam servers box to join it, Steam attempts to load CS :/
9. After the initial conversion DOD worked ok. Now if I try and start it I get "This game is currently unavailable". It's NOT updating.
10. If a game fails to load you invariably need to reboot as other things stop working (e.g. attempt to double click the DOD desktop icon, obviously the hl.exe is in a different location now so click browse to find it and nothing happens).
11. Was going to test the LAN stuff but no games work now :/
Obviously, these are all things I've noticed in the first couple of hours. They may sort themselves out over time but I think they illustrate the terrible way Valve have implemented this.
I mean that thing was in beta for how long? 6 months?
