    As I cant wait for the Wallabies to utterly crush the All Blacks.

    But the way we've been playing recently.....

    Well as a fellow Australian I do support the Wallabies as well. I just can't see the US putting up any kind of opposition <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ehehehehe neither can I.

    They'll probably forward it all the time - grabbing the ball with one hand, drawing arm back and trying to hurl it down the field to some guy hopelessly offside. Then they'll tackle someone without the ball, the whole time wondering where their body armour is <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Rofl, exactly my thoughts. Those wimps used to their armour plating will be introduced to a whole new world of pain. I can't wait to see how badly they play <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Might as well make a US Cricket Team. They'd try to hit every ball afraid of getting 3 strikes.

    Ha ha ha, look at me. I like to make fun of people that dont have the same culture as me. Its fun to make fun of americans, because now its the popular thing to do. They SUCK because they are trying new things! What kind of IDIOTS try new things... hAHAHA they SUCK SOOO BAD.
    sarcasm/

    Come on guys. I am sure because we play we "body armor" we are HUGE fricking sissies. And I sure that because the vast majority of us dont play cricket, we are total retards. But I have not really watched cricket that much. I kinda like the fact that some american teams are attempting to play sports that are enjoyed by the world over, rather than just here in the US.

    The same thing would occur if any rugby team or cricket team attempted to play American Football or baseball. On a side as well, on the Air Force base were I live, the majority of people play rugby, not football competitively.

    Playing full tackle football (the american kind) without pads can be very fun, yet painful. Running over someone kneeling in the grass can hurt...heh...Or smacking your head into someone leg (thereby injuring the leg and the head, wootage for 2fers). Generally everyone walks away limping...or bleeding...except that one wuss in the back who no one wants.

    Tackle Football without pads is the best <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> .

    Rugby seems okay, not a big fan of cricket though.

    As for the rest, I'm with that Ben128 dude. You don't see americans making fun of the European NFL (probably because no one's ever heard of it...). And I would like to point out to Ben that a lot of Japanese enjoy baseball...there are so many Japanese little league games on ESPN2 ...it's insane <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.

    Absolute ownage. Hopefully our aussie neighbors will have the spines to reply with apologies, or at least the admission that they make poor representatives of their country's sportsmanship levels with their posts. But I rather doubt it.

    isn't it fascinating how, even with our "body armor", sometimes we spear tackle each other hard enough to break ribs and damage spines?

    we must be hitting <i>kinda</i> hard at least... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This is truth. I can look at the size of an average rugby player in pictures and make a pretty good comparison of why padding might be needed, compared to an NFL player. Not to mention unmentioned fact that rugby tackling rules do not allow you to make NFL-style hits that lead to injuries (and the need for pads).

    A picture from the BBC, showing some Rugby action.

    <img src='http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39307000/jpg/_39307404_cohen_get300x245.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Then you see a guy like Ray Lewis (one of many simply gigantic NFL defensive all-pro players)

    <img src='http://bengals.enquirer.com/img/photos/1997/09/090897pickens_500x332.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Or Warren Sapp

    <img src='http://64.246.22.199/posters/football/1013_Warren_Sapp_Intensity.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Or Bill Romanowski...

    <img src='http://www.onlinesports.com/images/phf-aafs003.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

    Maybe this explains we do not allow girls to play in the NFL? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Rugby of course does not stop every 3 minutes for commercial breaks. Thus rugby focuses on lighter, more agile players with high energy reserves.
  • ZigZig ...I am Captain Planet&#33; Join Date: 2002-10-23 Member: 1576Members
    ..

    i'm just gonna give that a *cough*.

    honestly... because you can get tackled in ANY manner that's basically still a tackle, our players have to learn to dodge even better...

    high energy reserves i won't even... yeah okay i will. ever hear of carbo-loading?

    I find it highly unlikely that any player on the U.S. Rugby team ever played in the NFL.

    Sort of off topic, but not totally: If you wanna see a painful sport, watch Hurling. Now, I know next to nothing about this sport, but the few times I watched it, I saw a guy just get <i>nailed</i> in the face with one of the bats. Blood flew everywhere, and a big fight started. It was the best.
  • ZigZig ...I am Captain Planet&#33; Join Date: 2002-10-23 Member: 1576Members
    yeah because if they HAD played in the NFL, people would be getting crushed.

    so of course they haven't.

    Geez for crying out loud we were taking the p*ss out of you Yanks. I'd expect you to rib us the same way if we feilded a Gridiron team. This was all just humour, light-hearted poking fun.

    Good job you beat Uruguay. Good luck in the competition. You of all people Monse should recognise that we were just kidding, seeing as half the insults you make turn out to be you "just joking". Don't show up to an Aussie sports stadium if you can't take these kind of comments.
  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    I don't believe you, as from past experience I've found that you really don't have much of a sense of humour. You're just trying to get out of admitting your bad attitude by pretending like it was all in fun. That's fine though, whatever.

    And you should know from past experience that I like joking around more than the next guy. But believe what you want to believe.

    Fine, you want to take it that way, take it that way. I'm not apologising for what I said because I don't believe there was anything to apologise about. But if you want to turn this whole thing into some gigantic issue because you took a comment the wrong way, that's your choice.

    Oh, and btw, wanna know why we Aussies think this is so funny? Because we think Gridiron is a pansy sport. Now hey, you probably think cricket is a pansy sport! But if you came along and posted a thread saying "Aussies playing Gridiron? rofl!" I'd laugh as well. Why? Because it's a nation that has never played such a game before going up against nations that have played it for decades. I know this will mean absolutly nothing to you because you've already decided that I'm an absolute **** but I don't wish the US any bad luck in the upcoming competition. They're a team competing just like any other. I wish them well.

    A real gentleman would have apologized not for the offense, but for the perception of offense. Accidently insulting someone usually justifies a short apology to go with explanation, but you are apparently incapable of doing this. As for me taking it the wrong way, I see quite a few people 'misunderstood' you. This puts the onus squarely on your inability to communicate properly. Just drop it, kid, we don't care anymore.

    And as a sidenote, your topic can be considered a troll, as it encouraged the type of flaming behavior we try to squash on this board. The next one will result in your removal from the forums. I suggest you do not post for a few days to avoid any more misunderstandings.

    Arnt u assuming then that the US players are all ex "american football" players? Which is most likly incorrect b/c there are several schools and universities as well as local clubs here in the US that play rugby. Just b/c it isnt a national sport here doesnt mean that no one plays it.

    Either way it will be fun to watch. I used to be an avid football "soccer" player myself and Ive also played ruby before, really fun sport. Im a smaller guy so its fun raming yourself into those big slow ones with the ball and taking them out.
