We haven't learned to overturn cars, raze cities to the ground, or eat babies during fan riots yet, but I'm sure our Brit Buddies could teach us
"because you can get tackled in ANY manner that's basically still a tackle, our players have to learn to dodge even better..."
Tho when you're a couple of stone heavier and rely on 3 minute stopbreaks you can afford to be slower.. you just need to keep pushing forward.
"ever hear of carbo-loading?"
Eating a stack of food so you can do three lifts in olympic weightlifting does not mean you can lift those weights all day. There is a difference between endurance and sporadic bursts of activity. Generally in a rugby match there's a lot more moving about than american football.

As I recall in standard hockey, you can't raise the bat (or whatever) above the knee.
Not so in hurling

As someone who has actually played 1st XV Rugby for 11 years and US Football for 1, I can honestly say that US Football is a vastly more dangerous game. The pads are there for a reason. In US Football, it is entirely possible to be standing and waiting to receive a pass, whilst 3 huge ***tards hit you at the knees, waist and chest, all coming from different angles. In Rugby Union, you are a moving target.
It should also be noted the US Football is about the only sport I know of where engaging in a "pile-on" is totally withing the rules of the game. I never picked up any injury more serious than cuts or a sprain playing rugby. By comparison I have a permenent shoulder injury from one season playing US Football.
To put this into perspective, I have passed the Royal Marines POC, I have a Gold Duke of Edinburgh award and I spent most of my youth competing at county level fencing or doing Aikido and Judo. US Football is without a doubt the most dangerous of the two sports.

I fenced all three classes, but foil mostly. Sabre hurt a lot, since the only other sabre fencer at school was a nutcase. Epee I just never found the time for really, except on a few occasions, just for a change.
I have to say foil is the one I've used most in competition, but its woeful locally. Saber's good for the fun of using a saber, obviously. Epee I'm really very good at but I detest it because its a rather dull game of poking for simultaneous hits.
I suppose higher up the ladder it gets more interesting, but considering we could beat the local olympic team player, I'd say the chances of decent competition are slim.
Atm the only thing hampering my enjoyment of foil is that 2 people in our group seem insistent on flicking...... constantly...... repeatedly....

As for Grendel - good on ya. Now if I can get you to play baseball we'll really see what you're made of!

And I have to agree with you kida, hockey can be a dangerous sport. Any time you have pieces of galvanized rubber flying around a small rink at up to 120mph (not to mention that hockey players lay down and try to block those shots, often with no face mask) or someones job is to run out and scrap up bloodied ice after an injury you know that it can be violent.
As for LA, yea that city is very scary. But isn't it on the Pacific plate? If it is then soon LA will be out somewhere south-east of Alaska in a few million years. Why are we tortured with such a long wait?
