It'll cut through the idiots were lucky that they managed to install the cheat, and those are much more plentiful than the hard core players. Oh and can we please all remember that the dev team is aware that a bad Commander could ruin the game, they've said there is a easy to use system to boot such an SOB out of the CC.

Team sabotaging is not restricted to Commanders. Alien builders could do it. Marines could do it by simply standing in a narrow doorway, thus blocking it.

Long, since the key is just a string of bytes stored in your registry, I doubt any law could forbid you to change it. The EULA is *not* a law; in fact it's not uncommon for EULA's to contain passages that are clearly void.

    And cheating is legal too, of course <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Keep in mind, this registry key is only a representation of what you last entered as your cd key. It is not the actual cd key that Half-Life uses to verify against.

The cheating day's will soon be over, my friend.  Valve is making a cheat "master list" where if you are caught cheating, your ip/wonid will be sent to a master server and you will be perma banned from all half life servers.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

This could be a myth. Didn't Valve say awhile back that they don't give the option for mod teams to hardcode WONID/IP bans into their mods? It's the same thing in a roundabout way.

Blacklists are NO GOOD in large ranges. If people have blacklists extending beyond their own server then:

1)The blacklist should only be for other servers the admins run.
2)The blacklist should only be for servers the admin's friends run.
3)The admin's friends CANNOT share the blacklist with their friends.

You can only validate a blacklist claim so much. I've heard of "blacklist networks" and there not a problem. Why? Because many admins think just like I do and won't use them. This has a balancing effect allowing them to do more good then harm without f0cking everything up.

Now if Valve goes ahead with this, they've made a huge mistake.

I mean suppose you get a few false bannings, ok so your banned from 3 out of 10000 CS servers. Now you ONCE get a false banning from a server for cheating, your now banned from 10000 CS servers.

No offense if any are here, but blacklists only appeal to newbies or less wise people. Newbies can get highly frustrated and don't consider all the risks. They just imagine a quick pay off and a server heaven for them.

You don't get in the master list by some newbie admin banning you; you get there only when VAC detects a cheat.

Your concerns are still very valid though; there have already been false positives (i.e. they thought there was a cheat when there wasn't) with people using custom graphic drivers.

Hey moleculor,  What did my post say that you removed?  I can't remember.

Its far too late in NS 1.0 DEV to add anti-cheating into the base code. Once cheats do come out, it will be up to the HL server modding community to come up with fixes (although I assume the dev team will offer support).

I think because of the neccesity of team play in NS, newbs who tk/ta/block will play a couple games and then find the game boring. Even if public play fizzles, NS Clan Play will be incredibly strong, with or without a strong pub server community.  I am not suggesting that NS will fail pub, but it is a 99% sure-fire hit in the organized community. Plus, if a couple forumers post IPs, a 'Unoffical' NS Cool-People server network can be set up.

I dont agree with blacklists.... I myself have been banned from MANY cs servers cos people said I cheat (if you know what I mean -> HOW DAMN ANNOYING IS THAT??)

The idea with a big anti cheat program should only be approached IF there is a problem with cheating, as it has been said before their are MANY features in NS that would make cheating for advantage limited (changing textures, pah, make the game look ugly, the weirdos).

It would be pretty daft if someone made an impeccable program for catching cheats.... but with no-one to catch?? :/

The NS game/community simply isn't conductive to cheaters.

Pretty much correct. I can't think of any of the 'standard' cheats that would work in NS, except -maybe- a speed hack. Auto aim would give a -little- advantage. But not much, since there are no headshots or locational damage. Wall hacking won't help much, since those are -features- in the latter part of the game.

Are you sure there are ways to edit your Won ID?  I've seen generators that allow you to change your CD key and create you one, but they only work for the single player game.
  • CollateralDamageCollateralDamage Join Date: 2002-07-15 Member: 949Members
Yes, I am sure. Those keys are stolen from valid copies by various methods, not generated.

Although there is a fair mathematical chance that even a generated key will validate. Like, one in a million. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

No matter what mod there will be cheaters hopefully you'll be able to stop cheaters in this game while its still young.

And is -locked-. Do that again, and you'll be facing consequences.
