    old problem, old old problem, nobody did anything about it.

    last week it was people not updating with a 3 week old patch.

    This week its not doing something about a more than 14year old cascading failure threat of an aging power grid that experienced a greater rate of growth that it could handle.

    On the positive, NYC has got to have an elite disaster response team. In a post september world (woah a sentence where i dont vomit when reading that phrase) your police and firedeparement will know what to do like none other.

    More negative note: terrorists will love to know this much carnage can be cause by blowing up one sub station. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm right across the river from Manhattan in NJ, and I just got power back on now (8:20ish)... I napped from 4 when it happened til now, so now I can stay up all night playing NS! Joy! but seriously, what a drag... and they say the blackouts are gonna be 'rolling' -- I hope they don't hit me again... you don't realize how much you need electricity 'til it's gone. My train of thought when I got bored: "hmm, I can't go online, I'll watch TV... oh wait, the TV works on powur too... ok, I'll eat something... oh wait, I can't use the microwave or toaster and half the stuff in my fridge is bad... ok, I'll find something to read... oh wait, it's dark and I have no lights and it's humid so my matches aren't even lighting..." yeah. I ended up going down to the car to sit in the AC and listen to the radio news... but as soon as I got downstairs, I saw the lights go on. yay.

    Weeeeee a stray lightning strike in a Canadian power station has caused a gigantic blackout in Canada stretching from Toronto all the way down to New York.

    Watching the TV, it's just INSANE seeing all these people emtpy out of New York city. They are like walking along the free-ways home. People are stuck in elevators. People are trapped in the subway.

    Yet nobody is rioting, all these people are helping each other out and calmly leaving the city. GG Post-Sept 11 New Yorkers.

    Me too.

    Anyway, I think that'd be fun if you were in the City when it was blacked out and you just wandered the streets with a Flashlight.... at night.

    I actually quite enjoyed it. Most of my day job is dealing with Rogers AT&T customers from the GTA of Ontario, so I was able to sit back and relax for the last few hours of my shift today.

    No power = no cellular service. Ahh, pure sweetness. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    and it's actually nice with the power out, since you can't really do any "work" its just a feeling of relaxation and you can't do anything about not working <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Wanna know how phuglied up the power system is? I live in <u>OKLAHOMA</u> and im on the <u>SAME GRID</u> as <u>NEW YORK</u>

    Honestly...

    If i understand correctly, the problem is the connecting stations between the big big regions, and one of them went down for one reason or another, and that caused WAY too much power to go through the remaining one which blew IT out and so on and so forth. I actually think its kinda funny, I live, Like i said, In Oklahoma, We have tornados all the time(mostly spring), and they knock power out, The biggest one was May 3 2000 It was a mile wide and stayed on the ground for 4 hours, it allso went right through our biggest city.

    Natural distasters are nature's way of showing us who the b**ch really is...

    Let me guess, nubs started phoning the cops and radio stations asking if the sudden "brightning" of the stars was the culprit for the blackout. LMAO, bet they didn't know that light pollution causes stars to vanish.

    I read this somewhere.
