For the semi-official record, there are currently no plans to alter the HA. Given HL's movement and animation code, there will always be some compromises that have to be made.
they are immune to spores now and make nice "CLANGpssh!" noises when they walk.

Now consider the fact the trooper inside is wearing nearly two tons of armor. That's a lot of weight, and no human being can possibly support that kind of hardware on their own. The legs are so bulked and massive becuase they have to hold the actuator packages, gyros, and power systems to keep the thing upright when standing still or on the move.
And if you really don't like the face that much, search the forums for Fam's reskin of the HA marine. I used that one for over four months before switching to the Starcraft Marine, and I'm pretty sure I'll be switching back after 2.0 comes out.

This is a height proportion scale that Coil sent me a while back when I was trying to improve my drawing skills. It shows that the HA is, in fact, proportioned well.

Of course the arms and legs look the same size when you don't measure almost one-fifth of the leg and include the shoulder add-on in the arm measurement.

That is almost...sad in a way as that is just a rather plain diagram of a standard human being :/ Christ, imagine what some of you would be like with a standard anatomy textbook!
Anyway, I think the HA looks alright and certainly has an almost 50's kind of look to it. If it had large metal piping and stuff you could almost swear it was something out of those old science fiction books. Possibly flayras initial inspiration for it?

Am I the only person who likes the HA's head here? I love the heraldic-looking pattern the yellow V makes, and he doesn't look scared - he looks gaunt and impassive, like a 2-tonne killing machine should.
Oh, and the Beaker HA is too funny. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
The common practice if you're wearing body armor is to fully face the target. Your armor is thickest on your front and often barely on your side.
If you were a total idiot you COULD turn your side and expose your often under armored arms and side. I'm saying you could. But pretty much every swat team and soldier who's ever worn armor would laugh at you.

For the marine, his leg strides a real big distance. And also for the fact that nothing above the waist moves, like it's so stiff. Something along the lines of CS's running animation would have been real neat. As for the heavy armor animations, it just looks to me like he's digging his feet out of cement or something. I'm sure walking in a suit like that couldn't be easy and would make walking look weird anyway. And the HAs legs are incredibly disproportionate to the torso size.
The legs are like an inch taller than the rest of the body on my monitor (800x600). I don't know if that's proportional or not. It's not noticable, so it doesn't really matter.

I have no problems with the HA model itself, just the animations.
