My (little) rant.

Whenever I come across a thread with people being complete morons, I always think of things to say to them to make them realise how stupid they are. I'd do it too, but the thread's are always locked.

Rant over.

heh ...

but then, the cycle just keeps repeating itself ..

people bicker back and forth to each other constantly. Better just to lock the thread and stop it before it gets out of hand.

I wouldn't really consider it sarcasm. I mean he made a joke right after it, and he wasn't really trying to bring any of us down, or make anyone the "butt" of it.

I am just going to tack on this rant -

Idiots in IRC. God, we are getting them more and more. We had one guy, *NAME WITHELD* trying to justify cheats were not cheats, but more like a skill like conc jumping. and someone was calling us all drone bots, blinded to the fact that NS was NOT being worked on, and the usual YOU TAKE TO LONG! screams.

Save me, please, mercy, uncle, no more, padded room please, noooo!!

Seriously ... if I had ops there, I think half the time the chanel would be +m

I honestly am losing interest in the chanel all together. There is no reason for me to go in there - all there is, is what seems like #cs rejects ...

I personaly think the ops now should be 110% more strict with the rules then they currently are. Some of the stuff that goes on in there ... ugh ..
• JasonBostwickJasonBostwick Blossom Join Date: 2002-04-14 Member: 444Members, NS1 Playtester
Eugh, I completely agree with Silver and Comp. The channel seems to have been infested, and it has only really been in the past month! I'm not trying to sound like an elitist or anything, but I shudder to think of what the channel will be like after release. If it is bad now, with the flood of people that will come in for release it will get 10 times worse.
I am starting to talk less and less in #naturalselection. It really isn't a good place for decent intelligent discussion anymore. Perhaps an addition of more ops, or less restrictions placed on them (OK, well, there aren't any.) would help, but I am not even sure if it would. Oh well, it is up to you, Comp. You've done a damned good job in the past, just.. for everyone's sake don't let #ns turn even worse.

it's not only the absence of ops at certain times (morning GMT)
but there need to be much stricter ops i want #ns back the way it was. well that's never going to happan but we can do allot ourselfs without beeing ops.
like if a lamer enters the room and there is no need to shout op! just copy his hostmask and the thing he did wrong and msg it to one of the ops they will handle it.
together we can make #ns a happy place.

it all depends on the time of day that you're in there. Sometimes it's just the regulars, and it's like it once was. It's during primetime that the morons really show up.
• LazarusLazarus Join Date: 2002-01-28 Member: 122Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Gold
Many times those lamers just want some attention and see the reaction of the ppl that they have been messing around. Once there was a lamer that repeat the same thing "jews are good, all others should die" and that kind of stuff and it took ppl increadebly long time to see why he was acting like that. Then he got banned.

the NS channel isn't -that- bad, i don't think i've even seen a lamer in the NS channel, except for one time a friend of mine came into the channel, i idle alot in a channel that's alot worse than the NS one, where a 13 year old has ops, he likes to "test" if he can kick or ban someone... The ops in the NS channel take care of everything, and yes sometimes there isn't an op but that's really rare. I don't think we need more ops, and they are already pretty strict... And i know what i'm talking about, cuz i'm in the IRC channel alot, and i rarely idle s:)

Well, I just started hanging out in #naturalselection recently, so I hope I'm not one of the "idiots" everyone is referring to.

But I can assure you, post-release (assuming NS is a hit -- duh) that this forum, in addition to #naturalselection, will be going straight to heck.

It always happens.

The sad thing is, when a mod becomes popular, it draws attention from those completely interested (like those of us that have been waiting for a while) and those that just want to find out if they can exploit the hell out of it. It happens... in every mod. Hell, I was playing Day of Defeat yesterday (Day of Defeat used to have a very dedicated community that was like NS's... I used to love it) on a para map and everyone was complaining about something, there was a guy with a speed hack, and another without who was doing awesome. The guy without got booted because he was accused of cheating, yet it was clearly obvious he wasnt. This is what popular mods become reduced to after a while. Sure, you can find good servers with teamplay and good people, but those that have this are either full, password protected, or clan servers. Just saying that is impossible to keep the lamers out of mods, Im just hoping that NS has a nice enough learning curve that those exploiting lamers wont bother it... Just my rant. :|

NSF servers would rule.

And if you find a good serer with responsible admins, IE, ones not using:

sv_cheats 1
god 1
noclip 1

like I saw a guy doing in TFC, bookmark it. Servers like that usually draw regulars, and eventually teamplay gets better.

You people are talking like there was a mass exodus from the counter-strike channel, it’ll be amusing to see your reaction when the modification releases -- when the actual idiots start pouring in.

Some people are stupid. But they tend to gravitate towards big, popular and released mods (NS only qualifies for the first two).

Umbrella Master's right... lamers do infest every mod, sooner or later. I do wonder what these people's motivation is, though. Don't they feel at all guilty about it? Or perhaps they don't realise?

Yeh, I'm up for that to. An NSF server would definately rock.
• Umbrella_MasterUmbrella_Master Join Date: 2002-07-12 Member: 915Members
Yes, when the mod is released, I do expect lamers. But, I am hoping that the difference with NS will be that there are enough servers that are non-clan, non-password protected (ala 'public&#39 that I can join a server and see that yes, the community is still alright and have a nice teamplay game. I highly doubt it will happen though.

-Oh, and about the NSF server, that would really be nice!
• TzarconTzarcon Join Date: 2002-02-28 Member: 259Members
NS going to hell has been one of my greatest fears ever since I heard about this mod. It's like it's already started though. The community has been fine the way it is for a while, seeing as how there was a rather distinctive lack of lamers and morons, but now that release is imminent (did I spell that right?) they're starting to flow in. The IRC channel has gained massive popularity recently, the ammount of people is almost as much as #dod, the forums are gaining new people constantly, and things are definitly starting to get worse, and at a notable rate. I say it's time things start getting stricter. The NSF needs to get going really soon, we'd need more IRC, and maybe even forum mods (but probably not for the forum). I have personally always loved the idea of a "flame/complaints" forum, where people complain or flame, or flames and complaints are sent. Always good for a laugh. Forum subtitle could be "Check it out, sometimes they just make you point and laugh". No, really, it would be good/funny. Honestly

Anyway, back to the point, the community needs to start being stricter about lamers and morons
