<div class="IPBDescription">good or bad idea?</div> bring back the scoreboard !

if u agree with me, put a bold <b>yes or no</b> followed by ur reason.....

yeah i know this has been started a million times before, but seriously tell me why not having ur scores shown up is a good thing?

i can think of only 1 reason why having them not there is a good thing - to stop people ramboing just to get a high score, but several reason for having them there. who remembers what it was like to get a score of somthing like 20 - 1 as skulk then at end of the game end up with somthing like 63 - 12?

if u really wanna see it put back in, voice ur opinion while there still fixing things, with ns 2.01 out shortly dont expect another update for months.

I find that I'd be more interested in seeing how many resources I've got by kills rather than a frag count. I wouldn't mind if kill scores were brought back, as long as number of deaths wasn't displayed.

Although I liked the scoreboard (especially when I was at the top of it), people have yet to learn that 2.0 requires much more teamwork on the aliens behalf... just as much as the marines almost, and that is why it has been taken out.

The rankings are still there... that should be enough.

In 1.04 when i had a pretty good score it encouraged me to play even better.

Yeh bring it back...but only for the aliens.
Marine need teamwork, they are one.

Forget scoreboards. As far as I'm concerned, scoreboards make people act like it's CS and they **** on teamwork like it's evil because it doesn't get them any kills.

Before 2.0 came out, I thought that removing the aliens scoreboard was a bad idea... then I played it. The alien team now needs as much teamwork as the marines, so it makes sense that there should be no scoreboard. In 1.04 the alien team was more or less a team of one-man-tanks, but in 2.0 if you don't have teamwork, you're dead.

I play aliens a lot and always enjoyed seeing my score leading the team on some of the games and I thought it was that that encouraged me. However, after playing many 2.0 games, I see that there is no point in it. I'm working for my team so my team can win. I don't care who gets that HA kill, as long as that HA is dead and out of the sexay aliens' way.

There is no need for a scoreboard other than to have a quantifiable way for one player to gloat about his 'skillz', when the game is NOT about one player. In fact, trying to center it around one gloryhound can lose the game for you.

Individual scores mean absolute jack in NS. It's all about which species dominates, and which becomes so much protein slurry to fuel the other's advancement.

quit being stat ****** and just play the game

Even if the xcore boards arn't on they still order the players with the most killz at the top.

Even on both teams would be not bad, it will promote ramboing on public play. Too many damn Ono's sit back and just wait for them and use redemption. Maybe with a scoreboard they'll be inclined to walk into the marine base and finish it off.

Its a team game after all, score boards are for other mods, type status if it bothers you that much.

Aliens now need cooperation more and scores promote fraghunting.

I concur. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Although I loved that feeling of 30-4 kills or whatever as a killer skulk, its a purely selfish indulgence. absolutely not necessary

    <b>Yes</b>

Simply because I like to see whether my skulking/fading/whatever is improving or not. I used to use the scores for self improvement, and to see whether I got worse or better.

I heard that the stats were supposed to be shown in tourney mode, but i guess not after playing a few games <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

YES, scores should be there, because i believe everyone should start as a rambo, to gain the skills needed to survive, then once they can shoot and live longer, become more active in team based tactics, My comm (yes mine, not a random public comm) often asks me now "Frost i need res, go rambo for me please" Because sadly, rambo still works and early game i can get the commander roughly 30-40 res extra, and still lose the game ultimately :o

    but I like the tournament scoreboard <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->, i liked looking at it and seeing my team had a score of 1500 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    No!

i have never played so good in my life... i just type 'status' in console and i look there... me a lowly quite crappy player got like 45 - 4 as a skulk i seem to play better without them...

    here is my Q

your names are placed on the scoreboard at what i first thoguht was aplphabetically.. but it isnt.. does this mean that the higher your score the higher your place on the names bar? if so surely that is a sort of 'silent' scoreborad...

yes wolf, thats right, your position is score dependant.

Gotta disagree with you on this one j.

On pubbies we gotta teach the nubbins teamwork etc, and that frags dont matter, otherwise youll get hoardes saving for onos without putting down rts first.

Plus you can get scoreboards on tournement mode, right?

I know it feels great when youve killed loads, but you can always check status, and i normally know how many times ive died roughly as alien.
  • MrMojoMrMojo Join Date: 2002-11-25 Member: 9882Members, Constellation
No. The scoreboard is fine where it is. If you want to see how you're doing, you can always look at your position, and not worry about frags. But you shouldnt ! The whole point is that this is a teamplay mod where people make sacrifices and where the score doesnt reflect what they've done for the team.
