NS 2.0 feels very much like a sequel. It feels like a totally different game (not necessarily in a bad way). I *love* the new marine weapon sounds (at times I have difficulty telling them apart, which leads to much confusion ) and it's nice to see sensory getting heavily used.
It has to be said: the new skulks look a bit demented. It's partially due to them wallrunning on *everything*, which results in a kind of spastic breakdancing on certain terrain, and it's partly due to how they keep jerking their heads around for no apparent reason. No biggie, it just looks a bit odd.
I'm not so sure I like the pace of the game. I know the intent was to reduce all the goodness of 1.04 games into ten minutes (which I don't really like hte idea of anyway), but instead I seem to be playing a lot of half-hour games where everyone has full tech. It's a bit like playing Doom with cheat codes on right from the start; there's virtually no "low level" game. Five minutes into the game it's skulks and lerks vs lmg\la, five\ten minutes later everyone has everything. Again, it's not a big deal... It's almost 5 am, it's getting light outside, and all I want to do is play another game of NS. I honestly can't believe how much such a great game was improved on. Now it really does feel like a strategy game, rather than a fps with teamplay and structures.
I love the little things that were added (the sounds of the HA marines stomping), I love that aliens are much more fun now to play (I used to go marine nearly all the time, but now its just awesome to become gorge with 2 other people) I love the new sounds and the music...Though I agree with a lot of people that games sometimes last much too long. It's interesting how the gameplay has been changed, 2.0 is just more about getting resource towers more than getting hives. (because 3 hives doesnt make much of a difference anymore, except the attacks you can use). I really am enjoying 2.0, thanks flayra and all the other people in the ns staff.
I really enjoy 2.0; the new abilities, sounds, gameplay, and animations. Three things kind of disappointed me though. It is very annoying trying to have a stable gorge. Nobody wants to go gorge so i find myself dumping my res into hives or chambers and going back to skulk to get res for kills. This is especially true at the end when everyones an onos or fade and noone wants to regress into a lower life form. Ide really like to see some res bonus go to the gorge again.
Marines are a bit too strong at the end. Today on GTW St Louis the admin had to change the map because the aliens couldnt finish off the marines from their spawn. We aliens controlled everywhere outside the marine spawn but just couldnt kill off the last marines. You simply couldnt go into their spawn even with lerks spamming umbra. As soon as you entered the room you would be instagibbed by spray from 8 hmgs. Kinda feel like the game should end quicker when one team so clearly dominated the match.
Finally onos devour. I think its great and its fine when used in conjunction with redemption. Marines just need to travel in groups and learn to cover each other. What i would like with this ability is to have the digesting screen be a little transluscent so you could still have an idea of whats going on.
2.0 is still really fun tho

Definately some very cool Marine upgrades, without a doubt. Aliens need MUCH more teamwork than before, not a bad thing, just hard to get used to.
Played for 2 hours having a blast, then realized we were playing the SAME game for 2 hours. It got a little old. There's no need to attack hives, just hold up in the base as Marines and Stalemate forever.
Dunno, maybe I'm missing a vital tactic. Will keep trying until we master it!
Final thoughts...I like the new stuff, but just making the game require less cpu usage would have been great! Thanks for that!!!
OK now server companies, drop that price!
I really love it. The lighting and new particles in the maps make them look so much more refined. This truly is a retail quality game.
Haven't seen the marines win too much yet, but when they do win, it is a ton of fun to be on their team. Marines WILL NOT win unless they travel in groups, and have good, coordinated teamwork.
Great work NS Dev Team and Testers! It's wonderful!
P.S. However, I don't see the massive server speed improvements. HLDS_L 3.1.1.1d and I'm still around 80% with 18 people on an AMD 1600+ MP

Bilebomb has an insanely big splashradius. This means that by lobbing in three Bilebombs, even if you die in the process, you dismantled a whole damn farm to 50% of their health or less. Do the maths and you'll soon realize that you are investing less resources in re-evolving than they just lost. Thus, single-Gorge suicides are more than viable.

A Lerk with adrenaline can keep you alive for very long thanks to Umbra. Just tell him to spam it a little, and you'll have more than enough time to damage the farm severely.

If you can coordinate with a fellow Gorge, tell him to stand behind you and Healthspray you as if his life depended on it.

Use the bombs firing arc and splash - stay behind cover or corners, you can still destroy stuff.
Assuming you can team up with one or two aliens, it should be possible to destroy a farm, unless your enemy is capable of bringing in reinforcement really fast.
NS 2.0. is great! I heard people say that the shotgun is a killer versus the ownos and the fade and I like that. It forces the aliens to get some ranged support like oc or the lerk.
One thing I really liked is setting a trap: I put a oc in two corridors that cross and put a sensory next to them. God, this really gives me my oh so needed res. When we get 3 hives, I web the floor, and BOOM, plenty of res. The greatest part of SC's is that you can walk from one hive to another with no chance of detection.
I also commed a few times, it was great. the new turrets finally do what I want them to.
The most awesome thing was the HA. It reminded me of one of the starcraft movies(onboard of the amerigo science vessel with a nuke). I also had great fun of destroying the weapons lab(renders turrets useless versus an onos) and the observatory, bye bye motion.
Finally I got a question: When I upgrade my armory, I need to build a new armory to drop an observatory, shotguns, welders... Was this meant to be this way?
Devour+Redemption=Mad Cheap. I mean come on, theres no way to beat it. 1 Onos constantly devouring people and than getting redeemed (meaning no hope for the rine inside) that's just SUPER CHEAP. Sure it's funny the first time, and maybe the seocnd, but after the 50 trillionth time you've been eaten, it just gets damn annoying.

That's NS. If a skulk gets to the point where it can dig its teeth into your face, then quite frankly, he deserves to eat you ^-^
Marines are not supposed to be close combat fighters, else they would have swords and kung-fu. Even then, they would still be obliterated by the kharaa as the kharaa are adapted purely for melee. (ok and SOME ranged attacks. i can make mistakes >_<)
Summerised again - in ns, if a skulk/fade/onos gets close enough to touch you, then it's your own fault for not killing him/her fast enough ^-^

I've lost count of the number of rambo HAs that I've devoured simply because they leave their teammates behind to try and shoot the Onos. And they do it again and again when they respawn, and usually complain about how annoying devour is. Stick with your fellow marines and devour isn't a problem(if you have an LMG then your life is not worth much anyway and devouring you is a waste of time).
A good Onos is one that can devour someone from a group of people and run away to get healed. Wow, a true test of skill. Often times, they'll last long enough to gather the 100 resources needed to Onos up again.
I like all the changes to 2.0 except for devour. It's too abusable with redemption.
I don't think I'll play again until a patch is released to address devour, erm I mean game balance.
It's getting very easy to get onos within 10-11minutes GAMETIME, this is gonna be a serious issue, since onos can help destroy hives any marines have... And at 10-11 minutes, marines are still too weak to battle onos. =/
I love NS 2.0. Case in point: Marines took two hives, but aliens won. Now that's incredible. And all these newbs. Oh my goodness, I've never seen so many NSPlayers running about. my my my...
I think that balance is something not worth discussing at the moment. I keep hearing people whine about marines having a hard time beating off onos, yet I'm 8/9 comming.

I was able to play the previous version with 16x anisotrophic filtering and 6x AA and my fps was almost always 99.
With the same settings in this new version my FPS dropped to ~30-50.
Now, with 0x anisotrophic filtering and 0x AA NS doesn't even look good, and fps is 40-60.
And playing is horrible because of this. What's wrong ?
