Neon Genesis Evangelion

<div class="IPBDescription">cool, ain't it?</div> See, first I downloaded this NGE 99 Red Ballons, nena song with clips from the show, and it looks pretty cool ( I am really weird, aren't I?). It's anime, looks interesting.

So I figure I'll download some of the clips from the actual show and see how the it is. Besides the moderately confusing ending (probably because I skipped some episodes) it's really good. Now if only cartoon networked showed that instead of ...DBZ or the powerpuff girls....or anything else not on during Adult Swim (yea, sexual scenes removed of course).

Saw someones Avatar was Asuka, just wondering how many other people have seen it? Asuka is cool <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> .
I was waiting for the episode where she would come in...not only is she cool, but she's got the cool German Eva (gotta love german...now that I think about it, the fact that her eva's german, and that song is german (nena is, and the original at least)is kinda strange...).

(Try to do a search but apparently it's down for the moment, or at least for me it is)
Deutsch ueber alle andere Sprache, ausser Russlandisch! (or something like that).

Excellent, and my favorite anime so far (though I'm still n00bish in that area). Some people don't like the ending because it's difficult to comprehend. Quite possible you saw more than one avatar of a character from NGE, I see a lot with Rei on it (Venmoch, SilverFox, etc.). I thought the ending of the actual series was good, but the movie End of Evangelion was far too strange for me and several things that Made No Friggin' Sense TM happened.

    <b>
Like when the Lance of Long-something came down FOR NO APPARENT REASON and killed Eva-02 and the mass-produced giant seagulls came back to life.
</b>

So, I strongly recommend you see the entire series, or if you're unsure download the first few episodes to see if you like it. Don't rely on those to hook you, though, I only started liking the series at episode 5. Well, I'm off to make my sig.

If you're an anime n00b like meh check out Trigun, it'll r0x ur s0x...

Trigun's cool too, that's on cartoon network, or was, haven't watched it lately, I've seen all the episodes.

That has to be my favorite show right now, gotta love Meryl and Millie (more Meryl than Millie for me).

    Few questions:
How many Evangelion episodes are there?
Has anyone ever seen E.Y.E.S of Mars? it's a weird anime movie, but I'd like to purchase it somewhere...unfourtunately most electronic sales places here are closing...there used to be an EB, and Suncoast, and pffft....nothing now.
Who else thinks Lupin III sucks monkey balls?
Are there any other cool Anime series (I feel Gundum's sorta similar but I don't like that show...).

The DVD boxed set at Amazon.com is 200 dollars (okay, 152, but it's 178 with the movie ending thing)...thats a bit much for me...doesn''t even tell you if it's english or japanese, or what subtitles it has. I'd be all for paying it if I could afford it. I figure there's gotta be around 30 episodes (8 DVD, 3-4 episodes per DVD).

Small side note with my digging...the voice of Asuka is the same voice of Sophitia in Soul Calibur 2 (hey, two favorite characters, w00tage for Yuko Miyamura) <a href='http://amazon.imdb.com/Name?Miyamura,%20Y%FBko' target='_blank'>http://amazon.imdb.com/Name?Miyamura,%20Y%FBko</a> .

I beleive there are 26 excellent real episodes of NGE, and a pair of garbage movies. Some people like RahXephon, and it has some similarites to NGE, but I never really liked it after watching the first 4 episodes, but hey; I didn't like the first 4 of Evangelion either... I hear good things about Cowboy Bebop, but have been unable to obtain a copy for myself. Ghost In the Shell Stand Alone Complex has amazing animation and some cool parts but you don't "get to know" the characters like in Trigun and NGE and there's really no story; episode to episode completely different stories happen, as different Section 9 cases.

The final episodes mirror the events of the movie, from Shinji's internal perspective. It all makes sense once you understand that.

Now stop your whining! It rocked!
  • VenmochVenmoch Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1093Members
Uh there are two very different endings.

The series one showed Shinji falling for the illusion of the human instremality project while the film showed him realise it was all fake.

While Episode 25 and 26 of the series differ from End of Evangelion, I personally believe they are the same ending, just different parts of the story. For instance, the movie is what actually happens, while they specifically say in Shinji's visions as he's going through the instrumentality he's experiencing what MIGHT be the future, based on his decisions.
I felt that the series ending was what happened in shinji's mind, while the End of Eva movie was what happened in the world and how instrumentality came to place. There were clips shown in the series end that eventually got explained in End of Eva. But that's just my feeling.

And while I'm at it, I saw some link to an American doing a live action movie of Evangelion. Although I seem to have lost the think, maybe you guys might know more about it.

    [EDIT]
To also answer your questions: there are 26 episodes, plus 2 movies. One movie is a rehash of eps 1-24 with some new footage, while end of evangelion is 25-26 redone from outside of what is going on with Shinji in the instrumentality.

I disagree, but I don't want to turn this thread into an argument over how NGE panned out. I always subscribed to the philosophy that the last two episodes in the series are completely ignorable anyway, and it's the movie that is what you need to pay attention to. I mean, seriously, any time someone gets congrajulated that much at the end of a series, you know something is very wrong with the ending. And the movie begins on a more realistic note anyway. You all know what I mean.

And does anyone else think that all this talk of bible symbolism is complete bullox?

Outlaw Star [don't bother with the side series Angel Links, it blows donky by comparison]
    Inu-Yasha
    Big O
Cowboy Bebop, Spike Spegle pwns ALL
Zoids: Chaotic Century, Zoids with a story.

Again, this might be explained in the series, but why don't the angels just attack some different part of the world? Like mexico, or germany or something, what's so special about Tokyo-3?
Question about 'The End of Evangelion' : Why is Shinji choking Asuka when he gets out of the pool of souls? heh.

I think he's kind of ticked that I decided to watch Evangelion first before I watch RahXephon; but at least he didn't force me to get the Eva series myself. I'm currently watching the episodes he lent me... I'll possibly give me opinions later.

And yes, I've made sure to stay away from the "additional 40 minutes" from the movie.

God I love hearing the gossip about his mental state at the time of the movie. Was reading some stuff about what people said on the imdb forums.

<i>"Well how would you feel if your wife, daughter and mother just died and fans were screaming at you for an ending that made sense?"</i>

<i>"Really? I heard that it was a girlfriend that left him at the altar."</i>

<i>"Sowas he in an asylum before or after the movie?"</i>

And didn't the DVD have include letters of death threats directed to him thanks to the movie? I don't care if any of this is complete BS, it's entertaining to say the least. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
