<div class="IPBDescription">no JP needed.</div> i have seen games where the comm techs to HMG fast and drops them. he then sends his men to a hive but not all of the people can get HMGs. my sugestion is to drop 2 or 3 HMGs and have them fill up on ammo. then have them drop the HMGs and let the lights fill up. this way if an HMGer dies his budies dont pick up a useless empty gun. some may know this but this is for people that didnt.

I tend to 'borrow' a GL if there's one around and fill up on nades, then when he dies or runs out of ammo I can keep shelling.
i was thinking of comparing jp shotty against jp hmg
it's obviously been tried many times before, but i want to get the to the point of preferring jp shotty
imo it seems it would be just as effective and indeed better than hmg at long range, since i've read that the shotty blast radius is constant no matter how far away your target is; the shot does not spread out.
your troops need good aim, and it would not work well for ha since if they blocked each other's shots there will be empty spaces while the next shot chambers in, unlike hmg which is continuous fire.
Just be sure to keep a guy in base to guard in case it fails and the skulks own it while your away.
The scrim the skulks organized, but it was moot when the shotgunner took them all in 1-2 shots. We lost one person the entire time.

You can drop guns in 2.0 (unless something has changed very recently), but when you die, the guns you are holding aren't automatically dropped. If you see that you are at 5 health you can give your gun to someone else, but if you don't notice and you die, your gun just disappears.
Commander dropped us all a Shotty and told us to rush the hive, we did as he said and found that anyone who challanged us was dropped in a matter of seconds, we got to the hive and were able to smoke it in less time then it takes with HMG rushes, Not count out the Shot Gun, it can be better at times!
37.5 assuming every shot from every pellet hits, and ignoring hive heal, so realistically around 45 with no dc's, 50 with 2 dc's.

you have to balance it... i.e
you give one guy a shot gun and tell him to watch for skulks
you give 3 a hmg and tell them to go for the hive
you leave 2 with theyre lmg's and get them to bodyguard the hmg's
all of something is not good.
