How I Reactivate Voice Com

Lt_HendricksonLt_Hendrickson Join Date: 2003-03-21 Member: 14761Members
Well some **** admin decided to mute my voice com just after i called for help at comp core our last surviving building hive and muted my because my mic was anoying and blurry and he just didnt feal like hearing it. To get an idea about this admin he spent the previous two rounds teleporting from the ready room to the map and ran around as an onos while the other admin was a running egg. I'm really getting sick of all the abuseing admins in ns.

Well the problem i have now is he disabled my voice com and after going through all the options and stuff and rebinding voice com key, i still cant use it at all. Does anyone know how i can get it back.

and does anyone know the console command or impulse what ever in console so i can bind it to caplock(ns doesnt let me bind the normal way to caplock in the menu)

    Play on a different server, I think there is some command to mute the player's voicecomm on the server, (I'm thinking it is a gag) so either get the admin to remove it, or play on another server

    I see nothing wrong with that, because they can't attack like that, and it is nothing more then a distraction having 2 people running around. Although the egg would have been funny to see <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    As far as I know, there are only three ways an admin can affect your voice communication.

    (1) Unbind whatever key you had it bound to. This is unlikely because he'd need to know what key you were using. But, if that's what he did, just rebind it.

    (2) There is a plugin that adds a command -- admin_mute -- to the server. If he used that, then you will be muted on the server until he runs admin_unmute on you. The plugin should affect you only when you are connected to that server. So, if you are having problems on another server, this probably isn't what happened.

    (3) The admin may have run some form of admin_execclient on you. For example, he may have set your voice_enable cvar to 0. If he did that, then your voice comm won't work until you reset it to 1 in your console (or add "voice_enable 1" to your config file).

    All told, I'm guessing from your description that they did the third action to you. That type of thing is a bit extreme for an admin to do, in my opinion. But, I'd check the value of voice_enable and reset it if needed. Admin_gag will only affect your ability to type messages, not your ability to use the microphone.

    As for the bind you asked about: bind capslock +voicerecord.

    Good luck finding the problem.

    Cheers

    ok, I personaly think this is a really dispicable thing for any admin to do.

    As a safe guard, back up your config.cfg when ever you make a change to it (just name it config.cfg.bak)

    So if some admin decides to run one of these pranks on you just del your config.cfg and rename your back up <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If you make your config file read-only like a lot of ppl do then no-one can make any permanent changes to your binds/settings except you and you have to make it writable again first, just right-cikc on your config file, go to preoperties and tick the "read only" box. Hey presto, no more admins changing your config settings, all you have to do if they do something like that is go into console and type "exec config.cfg" and your settings will be restored to normal.

    What you expect an admin to do when someone comes on spamming voice with abuse and stuff? There is only 2 options, turn off their voice or ban.

    Yeah, but there is more than one way to turn off the voice. Admins should leave your local config alone. They can mute you on their server, and that is fine, but that's not what this is about. That crosses the line, big time.

    How can they mute you on their server? I would like to know the command, cos I don't know of any.

    Anyway I believe voice_enable 0, followed by voice_enable 1 will disable voice until they restart HL.

    BTW spamming abuse via voice could be considered "crossing the line" too. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    See Count Zeno's mention of the plug-in on this very thread.

    And sure, admins should take care of anyone abusing voice, but there are good ways and bad ways to handle it. Personally, I'd go warning->warning->ban. Clean and simple.

    OK I found the admin_mute plugin. I opened up the source, here is what it does:

    execclient(TargetName, "voice_enable 0");

    Sound familiar?

    LOL. I thought it was more sophistocated than that. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'll admit, I've never been muted or banned, so I didn't know. (I play nice.)

    Then I'll stick with warn-warn-ban as the way to go. Messing with someone's local settings is still the wrong thing to do IMO.
