    Nice, sorry but you'll get no critizm (sorry about spelling) from me <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I really like the first one!

    Well, that architecture is... different.
    Personally I'd like a more "straight" style, but it's ok.
    Textures are ok, too (i like that nayana-logo), but i think you should tweak the lighting a bit to give the map more atmosphere... some of the lights are too bright and too "sharp" imho.

    Those screens look crazygonuts, and the high, HIGH contrast between the normal lighting and the wall lightning (which is blinding!) looks new and intresting.

    It's a pity that map submissions for 1.1 are closed, this map might stand a good chance at getting in.

    The lighting looks excellent in every shot. The only complaint I have is that in some areas the jagged ceilings look a bit unrealistic and overdone. Can't wait to play. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Wow, I can not wait for that to be released. The lighting is some of them best I have ever see, it is very unique in MANY ways ... wow. I love it.

    [EDIT] - While look at the pics again, I am just wondering ... were you inspired by hera atleast a little? lol

    Thanks for some great feedback!

    Hypergrip: Yeah I know what you mean. But I thought maybe that very harsh lightning could be cool and "scary". It has a balance between light and dark. It's just someplaces is very light, and some are dark.

    Redford: Hehe thanks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    exoity: Thanks. I love Hera yes, but I have many inspiration sources..

    this is a very pretty map indeed, Great job on the lighting in particular.
    But your jaggy ceiling theme will be a nightmare for wall climbing skulks.

    supernorn it will also be kinda hard for some JPers. but i cant wait to download it. and yes the lighting is awesome. cant wait for release

    I like it very much. You did a nice job all around. Also I think the ceilings would be better for skulks because they can hide easier, that is if you like falling on marines.

    I love the lighting.

    I love the archetecture.

    beautiful! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> great lighting great architecture!
  • marcosmarcos Join Date: 2002-06-26 Member: 825Members
    Since the ceiling has some jagged egdes someplaces, it creates lot's of good hidingplaces for skulks. If you look at shot 2 and 6, skulk's can easly climb the straight wall and then hide behind those supporters..

    woah.

    It looks like you've cranked the gamma right up, and it paid off... the white lighting looks very harsh and beautiful.
    I especially like the red/blue police lighting in 007 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The only problem I can see you having is that some areas might look too cluttered with so many edges, but great work so far.

    Any estimates on completion percentage? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    really nice use of lighting there, although some brushes are too pointy to me, i like the result. nice job marcos.

    My only complaint (but it's a big one) is that you've tried far too hard to try and make some interesting architecture and have gone into total overkill. The angles are nonsensical and really don't add anything to aesthetics or functionality. It's to the point where a lot of the architecture looks like there wasn't actually any thought behind it (which I'm sure is not actually the case). Don't be afraid to tone down things a bit more.
  • NayNay Join Date: 2002-06-09 Member: 741Members
    hi kungfu, I kinda agree, you got to give marcos credit though the lighting its very nicely done,

    BTW little request here, has anyone got an RMF/MAP file with some light / light_spot entities to the correct settings for some of the light textures in the ns.wad, as well as using rad files <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Kungfu i think you have inspired alot of people with the design work of eclipse map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Oh, definitely. The lighting is fabulous and the overall level itself is looking great. <i>However</i>, I do feel that the architecture could be notably improved with some more time and effort. What use is feedback when you only focus on the positive, eh? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the high contrast lightning is uncommon but looks great, much more scifi-scary looking. architecture is fantastic but... the ceiling on the first pic looks a little bit too much. would it be much work to change the "peaks" a little so it doenst look so dangerous? just a few units back to the side their came from. but... I think I have to take a cold shower yet...

    wow, i really likw this map because its like no other at all!! the lighting is just gr8 and the architecture is like nothing else, i wanna play this map before i decide whats wrong with it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I guess KFS is right, I suppose the architecture <i>is</i> a little too crazy.

    It's still great, though. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I dunno... the pointy architecture is.... unusual, but I could see it done. I think it's balanced by the fact that this design seems to be carried throughout the map. With that it would look less random, even if it is still different. The lighting is just beautiful though.... can't really find anything I don't like about it. In #3 is that a hole in the middle of the floor, or do players walk over it at the same height? Either would be interesting, and the recess would be a great place to put a tfac or phase and have it be more easily defended.

    Thanks to all for this good feedback! Nice to see you guys like it.

    Yes, KungFuSquirrel you got a good point there. When I found that "jagged style" I really wanted to continue with it to the max. Or allmost to the max. But I see now, many have been "complaining" about it. I will try to find a balance.
    But! Remember this is only 1 of the 3 parts the map will future. There will be 3 diffrent styles/themes to this kind of design will not be dominating the map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    What exactly do you have the gamma set at? I remember reading in the mapping guidelines that a value of 1.7 is a maximum for what will function on a majority of monitors, and I don't believe any of the official maps go higher than 1.8. It appears that the gamma in your screenshots is noticeably higher, but correct me if I am wrong.

    Unlike KFS I think that your architecture is very nice. I for one enjoy the crazy angels and edges -- it gives it a more fresh look. Your lighting seems amazing, lots of contrast, I think that the screenshots you showed here look next to perfect. The only thing that looks off to me is the logo "nayana" (sp? I cant remember the word). It looks too... hard to put a finger on it. I'll just say that a more ridged, TSA Marine looked logo would fit better there.

    Thanks guys!

    My gamma ramp is set at 1.6 but I use some niffy compile parameters for the "bright lighting"

    I use Nems batch compiler. Adjust the gamma and scale parameters. If takes alot of tries to get it right. Play around with the parameters and rad file. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
